Understanding Cross-Cultural Differences In The Context Of Tourism, Ady Milman Jan 1990

Understanding Cross-Cultural Differences In The Context Of Tourism, Ady Milman

Visions in Leisure and Business

One of the primary problems in better understanding through the tourism experience is perceptual differences between the tourist and the host country. These differences are influenced by the environment, organization, and individual. It is in the manipulation of these constructs that relationships and better understanding can be achieved.

A Contrast/Comparison Of Needs Assessment And Curricular Evaluation For Management Careers In Hostelries/Travel, Private Sport Clubs, And Agencies, M. D. Blanton, P. A. Beitel, D. R. Kelley, J. T. Desensi

Visions in Leisure and Business

The purposes of this study were to: (a) assess the needs for sport management positions; and (b) obtain the evaluation of sport management programs/curricula by management personnel from different business perspectives, i.e., hostelries/travel, private sport clubs, and agencies. According to curriculum theorists, there has been an increase in the demand for sport management positions, but there is a real lack of and need for empirical evidence upon which to establish the theoretical basis and content for programs/curricula to meet this demand. Thus, the significance of this research is that it provides a basis for planning utilizing the empirical evidence of …

Visitor Welcome Programmes--A Positive Step In Helping To Promote Cross Socio-Cultural Relations, Perry Hobson Jan 1990

Visitor Welcome Programmes--A Positive Step In Helping To Promote Cross Socio-Cultural Relations, Perry Hobson

Visions in Leisure and Business

One of the main problems currently facing modern tourism is the alienation of tourists from host nationals. The lack of interaction and communication between tourists and hosts communities can result in misunderstanding, resentment and suspicion. If tourism is to overcome the alienation of tourists and residents from each other, and promote understanding and therefore peace between these two groups, then they must be able to meet, talk and understand each other. Current trends indicate that tomorrow's tourists will be looking for more interaction and communication with their hosts. The paper examines some of the current formal "meet-the-people" programmes and the …

Cancer In Louisiana: Volume 6, Vivien W. Chen, Jean Fike Craig, Elizabeth Fontham, Youping Lin, Pelayo Correa

Cancer in Louisiana

Cancer registration in Louisiana has developed gradually. It has been providing important information since 1947 when the Charity Hospital Tumor Registry was established. The Charity Hospital Registry was an important source of information on cancer patient survival for the National Cancer Institute publications on "End Results", in which a large proportion ( 44 % ) of the data on blacks were from this source. In 1973 the National Cancer Institute provided funds for an incidence registry to cover the three parishes of the Greater New Orleans Area. It provided very valuable data which became part of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and …
