Función Del Acento En El Proceso De Elisión De La /S/ En La República Dominicana, Orlando Alba

Faculty Publications

Mass-Transfer Measurements Of Copper Deposition In A Fluosilicate Electrolyte, D. Uceda, Thomas J. O'Keefe, E. Cole Jan 1990

Mass-Transfer Measurements Of Copper Deposition In A Fluosilicate Electrolyte, D. Uceda, Thomas J. O'Keefe, E. Cole

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The electrodeposition of copper from a fluosilicate electrolyte has been investigated by electrochemical techniques, x-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The diffusion coefficient of cupric ion in a fluosilicate solution has been determined with the aid of a rotating disk electrode using the mixed control Levich equation. Gold (Au+3) was used as a tracer to evaluate the mass transport properties of the system. The polarization behavior of the electrolyte was measured in the presence and absence of gas sparging on a vertical stationary electrode to study the effect of the mass transport contribution. Sound copper deposits were obtained …

Production Of Thin Copper Foils On Microporous Titanium Oxide Substrates, J. L. Delplancke, M. Sun, Thomas J. O'Keefe, R. Winand Jan 1990

Production Of Thin Copper Foils On Microporous Titanium Oxide Substrates, J. L. Delplancke, M. Sun, Thomas J. O'Keefe, R. Winand

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This study deals with the electrochemical production of thin (35 μm) copper films on anodized titanium substrates. The formation of a microporous oxide layer on the titanium electrodes greatly enhances the surface density of copper nuclei during a potentiostatic experiment so that a complete coverage of the cathode surfaces may be obtained after short term (20 s) polarization. Moreover, the oxide film may act as a parting agent and the copper films may be easily stripped from their substrates. The higher the pore density of the oxide film, the higher the surface density of nuclei and the easier the foil's …

Development Of An In-Service Training Program Designed To Increase Management Skills Of Child Care Center Directors, Jan H. Martinec Jan 1990

Development Of An In-Service Training Program Designed To Increase Management Skills Of Child Care Center Directors, Jan H. Martinec

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

Due to a lack of management knowledge and experience, center directors encounter many problems that they are not prepared to handle. The problems increase stress that contribute to director burnout. The lack of business knowledge coupled with increased stress, hinder directors’ efforts to provide a quality early childhood program.

The author designed and implemented an in-service training program which presented basic management skill information necessary to the success of directors as managers of personnel. The in-service program consisted of a series of three train sessions. Six concepts were developed in the sessions. The concepts presented were: leadership style, personality types, …

Analysis Of Nursing Care Hours In Selected Diagnostic Related Groups Using Patient Classification System Methodology, Gail H. Venner Jan 1990

Analysis Of Nursing Care Hours In Selected Diagnostic Related Groups Using Patient Classification System Methodology, Gail H. Venner

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to explore if Patient Classification System (PCS) methodology provides reliable information which can be used to identify differences in resource use within specific DRGs. This descriptive study utilized t-tests, standard deviations and product-moment correlations to examine the variability of mean Nursing Care Hours (NCH) and Length of Stay (LOS) and to determine if any relationship existed between these two variables for 227 subjects in four DRGs at two study sites. A significant difference in mean Nursing Care Hours between sites was noted for DRG #14 (CVA), which also displayed the greatest amount of variability …

Combined Solar And Internal Load Effects On Selection Of Heat Reclaim-Economizer Hvac Systems, Harry J. Sauer, Ronald Hunter Howell, Zijie Wang Jan 1990

Combined Solar And Internal Load Effects On Selection Of Heat Reclaim-Economizer Hvac Systems, Harry J. Sauer, Ronald Hunter Howell, Zijie Wang

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The concern for energy conservation has led to the development and use of heat recovery systems which reclaim the building internal heat before it is discarded in the exhaust air. On the other hand, economizer cycles have been widely used for many years in a variety of types of HVAC systems. Economizer cycles are widely accepted as a means to reduce operating time for chilling equipment when cool outside air is available. It has been suggested that heat reclaim systems should not be used in conjunction with an HVAC system which incorporates an economizer cycle because the economizer operation would …

Effect Of Viscoplastic Flow Rules On The Initiation And Growth Of Shear Bands At High Strain Rates, R. C. Batra, Chang-Soo Kim Jan 1990

Effect Of Viscoplastic Flow Rules On The Initiation And Growth Of Shear Bands At High Strain Rates, R. C. Batra, Chang-Soo Kim

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Marchand and Duffy have reported detailed measurements of the temperature and strain as a shear band develops in a HY-100 steel. Assuming their torsional tests in thin-wall tubes can be adequately modeled by a viscoplastic block undergoing overall adiabatic simple shearing deformations, we investigate the effect of modeling the viscoplastic response of the material by a.power law, and flow rules proposed by Litonski, Bodner and Partom, and Johnson and Cook. Each of these flow rules is first calibrated by using the test data at a nominal strain-rate of 3300 s-1. Then predictions from the use of these flow rules at …

Design Of Robust Controllers For Gas Turbine Engines, David E. Moellenhoff, Vittal S. Rao, Charles A. Skarvan Jan 1990

Design Of Robust Controllers For Gas Turbine Engines, David E. Moellenhoff, Vittal S. Rao, Charles A. Skarvan

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper describes robust controller design methodologies for gas turbine engines. A linear state variable model for the engine is derived using partial derivatives. The Linear Quadratic Gaussian with Loop Transfer Recovery (LQG/LTR) and the Parameter Robust Linear Quadratic Gaussian (PRLQG) robust controller design methodologies have been used to design a controller for gas turbine engines. A new method is proposed by combining the features of LQG/LTR and PRLQG methods and yields good robustness properties with respect to both unstructured uncertainties in the frequency domain and structured parameter variations in the time domain. The new procedure is illustrated with the …

Reduced Order Modeling Methods For Turret-Gun System, Vittal S. Rao, Norman P. Coleman Jan 1990

Reduced Order Modeling Methods For Turret-Gun System, Vittal S. Rao, Norman P. Coleman

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Reduced-order modeling techniques are used to design lower order robust controllers for a turret-gun system. The balance-truncation, Routh approximation, and L. Litz's (1980) modal techniques are used to derive the models. A critical comparison of the time and frequency response characteristics of the original and reduced order models is made. The spillover problem associated with a reduced-order model is investigated.

Introduction Of 38th Session Of The Nebraska Symposium On Motivation, Richard A. Dienstbier

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

This 38th session of the Nebraska Symposium on Motivation coincided with the 100th anniversary of the teaching of psychology at the University of Nebraska (1889) and with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Psychology (1939). The originator of early psychological instruction here, and the person to whom all recent volumes of this Symposium have been dedicated, is Harry K. Wolfe, one of Wilhelm Wundt's first two American students. In part because of the significance of these anniversaries, and because of the identification of this Symposium with psychology at the University of Nebraska, the Symposium Committee and …

Of Persons And Property: The Politics Of Legal Taxonomy, David Cohen, Allan C. Hutchinson Jan 1990

Of Persons And Property: The Politics Of Legal Taxonomy, David Cohen, Allan C. Hutchinson

Articles & Book Chapters

To talk of law without politics or history is nonsensical. All lawyers must concede that what they do takes place in historical circumstances and has political consequences. Every piece of law-making and law-application is a governmental act, it relies on political authority and claims binding force. Moreover, all legal activity occurs within a particular historical context, it is intended to respond to or influence a past, existing or anticipated state of affairs. This means that the study of law must concern itself with politics and history generally: it must not confine itself to only the politics and history of law. …

After Meech Lake: An Insider's View, Patrick J. Monahan Jan 1990

After Meech Lake: An Insider's View, Patrick J. Monahan

Articles & Book Chapters

This paper examines the causes of the failure of the Meech Lake Accord, as well as the implications of the demise of the Accord for Canada's political future. The paper challenges the prevailing interpretation of the Accord's failure, an interpretation which centers on the shortcomings of political leadership. The paper argues that the Accord's failure is, in reality, a product of factors that can be traced back to the 1982 constitutional settlement. The 1982 decision to proceed without the consent of the government of Quebec made it necessary to undertake a subsequent series of negotiations designed to accommodate Quebec. The …

Daydream Believing: Visionary Formalism And The Constitution, Allan C. Hutchinson, Andrew Petter Jan 1990

Daydream Believing: Visionary Formalism And The Constitution, Allan C. Hutchinson, Andrew Petter

Articles & Book Chapters

The failure of traditional strands of legal formalism to provide a satisfactory account of law's relation to material conditions, and its distinction from political practice, has given rise to a new variant of formalist theory: visionary formalism. In this essay, the authors examine visionary formalism through the work of one of its leading exponents, William E. Conklin. They contend that, far from rescuing legal formalism, the visionary account of constitutional adjudication put forward in Conklin's recent treatise, Images of the Constitution, exposes formalism for what it is: an effort to romanticize and legitimize a peculiarly regressive mode of political practice. …

Recognizing Personhood And The Right To Die With Dignity, George P. Smith Ii Jan 1990

Recognizing Personhood And The Right To Die With Dignity, George P. Smith Ii

Scholarly Articles

Death cannot be viewed properly as either an event or a configuration. Indeed, multiple parts of the body can continue to live long after the disintegration of its central organization is recorded. Instead of collapsing at a moment in time, technological mechanisms are capable of sustaining the major bodily processes indefinitely--all designed to allow for the harvesting of needed organs for transplantation. State legislative efforts have been undertaken in America to define those specific circumstances when death occurs legally. Although always allowed to exercise reasonable discretion in their decision making, attending physicians will nonetheless be aided by these laws that …
