Use Of Selected Elements Of Patient Perception Of Care In The Evaluation Of Clinical Training, Patrick J. Goff Nov 1990

Use Of Selected Elements Of Patient Perception Of Care In The Evaluation Of Clinical Training, Patrick J. Goff

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The purpose of this study was to develop a role for the patient perception of care provided by the student doctor within the educational program at Palmer College. The Council on Chiropractic Education, the federally recognized accrediting body of the profession, has indicated that the perception of care by the patient receiving that care should be an important outcome measure of the education process in the colleges. At the time of this study the patient's perception of care was not used in evaluating clinical competence. A review of the literature resulted in the selection of the Patient-Doctor Interaction Scale (PDIS) …

An Investigation To Determine The Prevalence Of Starvation Dieting Among High School Students As Affected By Gender, Race And Socioeconomic Status, Michal Lee Erickson Nov 1990

An Investigation To Determine The Prevalence Of Starvation Dieting Among High School Students As Affected By Gender, Race And Socioeconomic Status, Michal Lee Erickson

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

Sociologists report that twenty million Americans are on a 'serious' diet. There has never been a period when such large numbers of people have spent so much time, money, and emotional energy on their weight. The message conveyed by society, the Fashion and movie industries, modern medicine and the media is quite clear - thin is in! The problem lies in the fact that the message does not distinguish between realistic standards and unattainable ideals, especially for women.

Experts on eating disorders report that ninety percent of those suffering from anorexia nervosa (self-starvation) are females, ages 13-21, from white ethnic …

Technical Brief 10: The National Historic Landmarks Program There Study And Preservation Planning, Robert Grumet Nov 1990

Technical Brief 10: The National Historic Landmarks Program There Study And Preservation Planning, Robert Grumet

United States National Park Service: Publications

Introduction

The upcoming Columbian Quincentenary reminds us that few events have influenced the course of human history more than the encounter between the peoples of the Old World and the New. Contact between Indians, Europeans, and Africans released a stream of ideas, products, and people that continues to flow undiminished across the Atlantic Ocean. This “Columbian Exchange” brought people living on both sides of the Atlantic into a wider world than any known by their ancestors. Scholars commonly refer to these first centuries as the “Historic Contact Period.” beginning during the early decades of the 16th century, the Historic …

Modification Of Organic Polymers With Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation From Inert Gas Plasmas Rotating In A Magnetic Field, Jian-Xin Chen Nov 1990

Modification Of Organic Polymers With Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation From Inert Gas Plasmas Rotating In A Magnetic Field, Jian-Xin Chen

Theses

DC arc plasmas containing He and Ar, which were made to rotate by the application of a magnetic field, were used for generating vacuum UV light (VUV) to modify polymer surfaces. Polymers such as poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE), fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer (FEP), polyimide (PI), UPDLEX-S and UPILEX-R were modified with and without optical filters for different exposure times. PTFE was also exposed to helium and argon arc plasmas at different exposure temperatures. After the treatment, the polymerfilms were measured by weight loss, contact angle and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Copper was sputter deposited onto some of the treated samples and the …

Visualization In Concurrent Contexts: A Model, Kenneth C. Cox Nov 1990

Visualization In Concurrent Contexts: A Model, Kenneth C. Cox

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

Visualization is defined as the transformation of information into a graphical form. In recent years, visualization has increasingly been used in a variety of applications. Our work focuses on the visualization of concurrent computations. We wish to collect information about the operational behavior of concurrent computations. We wish to collect information into a graphical representation, and display the resulting image.

Implications Of Thermal Events On Thrust Emplacement Sequence In The Appalachian Fold And Thrust Belt: Some New Vitrinite Reflectance Data, Sharon E. Lewis, James C. Hower Nov 1990

Implications Of Thermal Events On Thrust Emplacement Sequence In The Appalachian Fold And Thrust Belt: Some New Vitrinite Reflectance Data, Sharon E. Lewis, James C. Hower

Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty and Staff Publications

Interpretation of existing geothermometry data combined with new vitrinite reflectance data, within the framework of a detailed composite tectonic setting, elucidates the evolution of structural sequencing of thrust sheets during the Alleghanian event in the Valley and Ridge Province in Virginia. That the Pulaski thrust sheet preceded the Saltville thrust sheet in the emplacement sequence, and that both reached thermal maxima prior to, or during, respective emplacement may be inferred from vitrinite and other geothermometry data. In contrast, the Narrows and St. Clair thrust sheets probably each attained their thermal maximum after emplacement. New vitrinite reflectance data are consistent with …

Parallel Vision Algorithms Using Sparse Array Representations, Ravi V. Shankar Nov 1990

Parallel Vision Algorithms Using Sparse Array Representations, Ravi V. Shankar

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports

Sparse arrays are arrays in which the number of non-zero elements is a small fraction of the total number of array elements. This paper presents computer vision algorithms using sparse representations for arrays. The parallel architecture considered is a hypercube. The algorithms can be easily modified for other architectures like the mesh. We assume that the architecture is SIMD, i.e., all PEs work under the control of a single control unit.

Forecasting The Behavior Of Multivariate Time Series Using Neural Networks, Kanad Charkraborty, Kishan Mehrotra, Chilukuri K. Mohan, Sanjay Ranka Nov 1990

Forecasting The Behavior Of Multivariate Time Series Using Neural Networks, Kanad Charkraborty, Kishan Mehrotra, Chilukuri K. Mohan, Sanjay Ranka

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports

This paper presents a neural network approach to multivariate time-series analysis. Real world observations of flour prices in three cities have been used as a benchmark in our experiments. Feedforward connectionist networks have been designed to model flour prices over the period from August 1972 to November 1980 for the cities of Buffalo, Minneapolis, and Kansas City. Remarkable success has been achieved in training the networks to learn the price curve for each of these cities, and thereby to make accurate price predictions. Our results show that the neural network approach leads to better predictions than the autoregressive moving average(ARMA) …
