Social And Nonsocial Decentration In Hearing-Impaired And Normal Hearing Children, David S. Cates, Franklin C. Shontz

Tweny-three hearing-impaired and 25 normally hearing children between 7 and 14 years of age were administered a social decentration task, a nonsocial decentration task (a set of conservation problems), and a test of nonverbal intelligence. Although the two groups did not differ with respect to nonverbal intelligence, the hearing-impaired children obtained significantlv lower scores than their normally hearing peers on both the social and nonsocial decentration measures. Within both groups, there was a significant positive correlation between social decentration and nonsocial decentration, which is consistent with Piaget's contention that centration-decentration is a cognitive dimension underlying the structuring of both social …

Simulations are made of prototype, ground state, rapid kinetic reactions for A+BC, in which B, and C are hydrogen atoms and BC is a hydrogen molecule. We study cases in which B and C first unbind, and then A, B, and C undergo complex, three-body, oscillatory behavior in accordance with the Morse potential. It is shown that, in every case, one of A, or C is ejected and the remaining two atoms form an H2 bond with precisely correct ground state energy, frequency, and bond length. As the congressional debate for the finalization of 1990 Farm Bill nears, the interest in analysis of the new farm bill is increasing. The continued large federal budget deficits, the GATT negotiations, and the increased momentum of conservation and environmental issues are all expected to exert influence in shaping the 1990 farm bill outcome. Practical options for a 1990 farm bill and its impacts for U.S. agriculture are discussed in Schnittker (1990), Westhoff, et al. (1990a), Westhoff, et al. (1990b) and Meyer (1990). Livestock Budgets And Whole-Farm Economic Analysis: South Dakota Sustainable Agriculture Case Farms, Donald Taylor, Clarence Mends, Thomas L. Dobbs

In this report, livestock budgets for nine sustainable farmers in South Dakota who raise beef cattle and two of the same farmers who raise hogs are presented. Results of whole-farm economic analysis--in which the livestock, sustainable crop rotation, and non-sustainable rotation crop enterprise budgets on the respective farms are integrated with each other--are also presented. The final sections of the report cover results of analyses of (1) livestock price sensitivity and (2) on-farm manure production and disposition.

The present report focuses specifically on mandatory supply controls. A future report will deal with the implications of flexibility and triple base policy options.

But they allow us to construct a coherent Stoic theory of suicide, and in Seneca we see the theory fleshed out. Rist is right to point out that we find a connection between suicide and libertas for the first time in Seneca, but wrong to suppose that it is inconsistent with earlier Stoic teaching, pathological, or based on a hatred of life.8 Seneca’s views are consistent with earlier, orthodox …

The registration for the1990 Fall Field Days, held 7 to 9 September at the 4-H Camp in the National Forest near Halsey, was 57. The weather was clear, in the 80's during the day, but cool nights, and even during the day the Lodge was pleasant because of the ventilation and the fans. Friday night there was a slide show, Saturday night Gerry Toll told about the Peregrine Falcon project in Omaha, with slides. Johnsgard's (1986) A Revised List of the Birds of Nebraska and Adjacent States considers the Laughing Gull (Larus atricilia) an extremely rare vagrant in Nebraska. Bray, Padelford, and Silcock (1986), in The Birds of Nebraska: a Critically Evaluated List, consider this species as accidental, with only one of 13 records accepted - the description of a specimen of one taken 2 April 1915 at Inland, Clay Co. This specimen was once in the Hastings Municipal Museum, but was sold and its current location is unknown.

In late April of 1990 I went to Kimball Co. to search for Mountain Plovers. Over a period of a week I walked several sections where Mountain Plovers have been sighted in the past. No Plovers were found at that time.

After I returned to my office in Lincoln, Fritz Knopf (Avian Studies Biologist, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Colorado) contacted me to discuss Mountain Plover nesting habitat and behavior. Fritz offered to make a quick drive around Kimball Co. to see how the habitat in Nebraska compared to that used by nesting Mountain Plovers in Colorado.

Composite Structure Ultimate Strength Prediction From Acoustic Emission Amplitude Data, James Lewis Walker Ii

Master's Theses - Daytona Beach

The acoustic emission (AE) given off by a structure as it is stressed provides a passive means to characterize flaw growth activity in complex structures. This thesis demonstrates how the qualitative analysis of AE data can be refined to provide a quantitative tool for predicting the ultimate strength of composite tensile test specimens. From an original sample set of only six specimens, a multivariate statistical analysis was used to generate an ultimate strength prediction equation. The variables of the multivariate statistical analysis were obtained through the mathematical modeling of the specimen’s AE amplitude distributions produced during proof testing. Ultimate strengths …
