An Investigation Of The Affects Of Typefaces Upon Reader's Perception Of The Meanings Of Messages Using The Semantic Differential Testing Technique, Veronica M. Hofman

Theses

This thesis is directed to the area of typography and the affects certain typefaces have on a reader's perception of the message of a text. There have been both empirical and non-empirical studies done that show evidence that connotations and feelings have been associated with typefaces. The intent of this study was to determine the feelings associated with a particular group of typefaces by relating each face to a list of adjective pairs and comparing the results with the content of books which incorporated the face on their jackets. There is a need to provide graphics capabilities for the objective of "Group Graphics". This is the ability of a group of humans to work collaboratively on the same diagram. It is the intent of this project to provide some of the fundamental software tools to allow a group of individuals to deal with a "mosaic" form of graphics made up of many separate screens that can be panned and conceptually edited by each individual who is working on portions of the overall document.

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine and evaluate the perceptions of high school art teachers, parents of high school students and high school students themselves relative to the merits of goals of a district program for high school art education and to determine whether the three populations share a common perception of these goals.

The reveiew of the literature indicated a lack of substantive art programs in the curriculum from kindergarten through grade 12. The emphasis on art productino goals was cited as a major reason art is given such low status in our nation's schools. Many authors …

Masters Theses

Viewers' Reactions to Ordinary People in Television News Events examines two hypotheses relating to respondents' reactions to viewing violent events or the likelihood of violent death as portrayed on the major news networks. Research centers on reactions of viewers to ordinary people caught in extraordinary news events. Results of two free-flow written exercises are discussed.

Research excludes reactions to viewing those in the news, such as police personnel, soldiers etc., whose lives might be expected to be involved in violent or dangerous events.
