Vcu Today (1988-04-13)

VCU Today, 1972-1988

VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

Licensure Of Professional Mental Health Counselors In Iowa, Jeffrey Don Hasselmann Jan 1988

Licensure Of Professional Mental Health Counselors In Iowa, Jeffrey Don Hasselmann

Graduate Research Papers

The issue of licensure has divided the profession of mental health counseling (Arbuckle, 1977; Cottingham, 1978; Sweeney and Witmer, 1977). Some professional mental health counselors adhere to the philosophy that licensure advances the profession (Carroll, Griggs & Halligan, 1977; Sweeney & Witmer, 1977). Opponents to licensure purport that licensing in itself will not advance the field nor will it necessarily ensure the delivery of quality psychological services (Davis, 1981; Gross, 1977, 1978; Tiedeman, 1979).

Employment Interviewing Options For College Students Who Have Physical Handicaps, Barbara Eileen Weeg Jan 1988

Employment Interviewing Options For College Students Who Have Physical Handicaps, Barbara Eileen Weeg

Graduate Research Papers

College students who have physical handicaps, like most college students, can benefit from student services designed to help them cope with the transitions in their lives. Students who have physical handicaps are concerned about the transition from being a college student to becoming a professional employee. They are anxious about interviewing for their first professional full-time positions. An issue that job applicants who have physical handicaps should resolve before they interview for employment is whether, how, and when to disclose their handicaps to the interviewers (Huvelle, Budoff, & Arnholz, 1984). However, little information is available to assist applicants who have …

Prison Overcrowding In Nebraska: The Feasibility Of Intensive Supervision Probation, Dennis Hoffman, Vincent J. Webb Jan 1988

Prison Overcrowding In Nebraska: The Feasibility Of Intensive Supervision Probation, Dennis Hoffman, Vincent J. Webb

Center for Public Affairs Research (UNO): Publications

This chapter analyzes the magnitude and causes of Nebraska's prison overcrowding problem. Nebraska's response to this problem has been to expand prison capacity and to implement programs to decrease length of stay. Another policy option - reducing prison admissions through intensive supervision probation - is examined in this chapter. Data from Nebraska Parole Board files indicate there is a category of current prison inmates that are not sufficiently dangerous to require imprisonment. Many of these nonviolent offenders with marginal criminal histories could be diverted into intensive probation programs that are more cost·effective than incarceration.
