A Christian Counseling Handbook For The Lay Counselors, Debra K. Olson-Demmie
A Christian Counseling Handbook For The Lay Counselors, Debra K. Olson-Demmie
Theses
Counseling psychology advocates a position of neutrality where religious issues are concerned. This position appears benign at first glance, but upon closer examination we find that psychology has been strongly influenced by modern humanistic thought. In his book Psychology as Religion: The Cult of Self-Worship, Paul Vitz (1977) states, "Psychology has become as religion, in particular, a form of secular humanism based on the worship of self" (p. 9). Vitz alleges that humanistic psychology is being practiced as an anti-Christian religion.

(Excerpt)
The restoration of the catechumenate in the Roman Catholic tradition since the promulgation of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) in 1972 has been a most surprising pastoral success. Laypersons should be able to identify their gifts and particular ministries and use behavioral methods to minister to the members of the church and their respective community. Laypersons have been well-trained to do traditional evangelism, but no one has developed a program to train Hispanic laypersons in the careproviding ministry. Many pastors have multichurch districts, so their time to counsel and care for the flock is limited. In addition, pastors are not usually accessible. Laypersons, who live in the immediate area, once …

The Seminary Of Treguier In The Seventeenth Century, G. Minois, Stafford Poole C.M.
Vincentian Studies
The Congregation directed the seminary of Tréguier in Brittany from its beginning. The seminary was chiefly concerned with the proper formation of the local clergy, although it also gave numerous retreats and missions. The details of the seminary’s establishment, finances, demographics, community life, and accomplishments are reported as far as is possible from the records that remain. The seminary’s many difficulties are recounted, which make its successes all the more remarkable.
