Values, Beliefs, And Attitudes In A Sociotechnical Setting, F. Gregory Hayden
Values, Beliefs, And Attitudes In A Sociotechnical Setting, F. Gregory Hayden
Department of Economics: Faculty Publications
Yngve Ramstad has recently inquired about how to define the components of the social fabric matrix and digraph system [Ramstad 1986; Hayden 1982a, 1982b]. To answer that question with regard to three of the matrix's components is the purpose of this article. The article will present, expand, and refine the author's introductory work on values, beliefs, and attitudes for the social fabric matrix [Hayden 1977, 19851. There are numerous meanings the word "values" evokes among institutionalist readers; for examples: social value, instrumental valuing, technological values, and valuation. Those concepts are concerned with "what ought to be," while the definition of …

Ceramic Production And Consumption In The Sierra De Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, Mexico, Philip J. Arnold Iii
Ceramic Production And Consumption In The Sierra De Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, Mexico, Philip J. Arnold Iii
Research Papers
Ceramics constitute an overwhelming majority of the pre-Columbian archaeological record. So large is this database, in fact, that more than 25 years ago Gordon Willey expressed some exasperation concerning what to do with " .. .literally tons of potsherds" (1961:230). While at times annoying, the sheer size of this database commands attention. Contemporary studies of the production, consumption, and disposal of pottery can inform us about the many ways in which ceramics reflect cultural behavior. These data, in turn, can provide insight into the social, economic, and political systems of ancient Mesoamerica.

Neutral Principles In The 1950'S, Gary Peller
Neutral Principles In The 1950'S, Gary Peller
University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform
In this Essay, I explore the intellectual setting within which Wechsler believed that defending freedom also required defending the legality of racial domination. I argue that the key to understanding this apparent paradox is to grasp the ideological/ cultural complex of the 1950's within which mainstream American intellectuals in law and in other disciplines came to terms with the disintegration of the traditional, "old order" paradigms of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by means of an intense and overriding distinction between controversial issues of values and noncontroversial questions of framework and structure within which substantive conflict would take …

The Malaysiana Conference Collection Of The University Of Malaya Library: The First Phase, A.N. Zainab
Pre-2000
The first phase in the establishment of the Malaysiona Conference Collection began in 7984 and involved locating and collating all proceedings of conferences held locally and papers concerning Malaysia for those held abroad which were already available within the Main Library and bringing them into a special 'Conference Collection' kept within the National Collection Division (NCD) for reference purposes. Simultaneously, form letters were also sent out to request for proceedings of conferences currently held within the country.
