The Federal Bank Commission Act: A Proposal To Consolidate The Federal Banking Agencies, Laurie Leader Jan 1976

The Federal Bank Commission Act: A Proposal To Consolidate The Federal Banking Agencies, Laurie Leader

Cleveland State Law Review

As background to an examination of the Federal Bank Commission Act, this Note will explore the two most important causes of the deficiencies in the present commercial banking system. The first cause is the existence of a "dual banking" system, under which banks may choose between state or federal charters. The resulting division of regulatory authority encourages banks to "shop" for the most favorable regulation. The second major cause of deficiencies in the banking system is the three-tiered organization of federal regulation. The Act consolidates the three federal agencies into a single regulatory Commission. Emphasis also will be placed on …

The Paris Commune On The Stage: Vallès, Grieg, Brecht, Adamov, A Comparative Study About The Representation Of Historical Reality In Modern Theatre, Gerhard Fischer Jan 1976

The Paris Commune On The Stage: Vallès, Grieg, Brecht, Adamov, A Comparative Study About The Representation Of Historical Reality In Modern Theatre, Gerhard Fischer

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

The present study is a comparative analysis of four dramas, all dealing with the same topic, namely the historical events known as the Paris Commune of 1871. Two of the plays were written in French, one in German and one in Norwegian. The first, Jules Vallès’ La Commune de Paris, is dated 1872; the other three are relatively recent works: Nordahl Grieg’s Nederlaget (1937), Bertolt Brecht’s Die Tage der Commune (1948-49) and Arthur Adamov’s Le Printemps 71 (1960). The latter three dramas are closely connected by reason of their respective mode and history of origin: Brecht used Grieg’s drama …

Negative Capability And The Poetry Of John Keats, Daniel V. Fraustino Jan 1976

Negative Capability And The Poetry Of John Keats, Daniel V. Fraustino

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

The unity of Keats’s poetry has proved elusive to most scholars. The critical debate which still continues about the “meaning” or “message” in such poems as “Ode to a Nightingale,” “Ode on a Grecian Urn,” “La Belle Dame,” and “Lamia” seems to indicate that Keats scholarship has even failed to integrate individual poems. The moment we suppose that we have found a stance toward experience which is the author’s, a diametrically opposite position can usually be found, if not in the same poem then almost certainly somewhere else in the canon. Taken as a whole, Keats’s poetry does not pretend …

Prescription Drugs And Open Housing: More On Commercial Speech, Howard Hunter

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

It has long been an assumption of American democracy that the liberties guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution are fundamental to the development and success of a democratic society. The freedom to speak one's mind, to publish one's thoughts, to petition the government for a redress of grievances, and to worship or to refrain from worshipping according to one's conscience are those freedoms which set a democratic society apart from other forms of political organization. They provide the individual with the opportunity for self-fulfillment and the society with the benefit of the thoughts, ideas, and aspirations of an …

My objective is to use the video-tape as another medium -- along with overhead projector, textbooks, guides of apprenticeship, pictures, lab equipment and suggestions from the programs and new trends in physics teaching -- being used to supplement our efforts in trying to reach more and more of our students The use of audiovisual media, and generally speaking the use of technology in education, can be constructive or destructive, can e very powerful in developing "human beings" or "robots", can increase the rate of apprenticeship, or can produce an educational catastrophe. However, it will heavily depend on the the professor, …
