Fantasy literature is diverse and difficult to categorize; nevertheless, throughout the twentieth century two main subgenres emerged: sword-and-sorcery and high fantasy. This thesis examines the differences and similarities between these two traditions, how contemporary examples of the genre fit into or diverge away from the traditions that influenced them, and proves in the negative what and how much of contemporary fantasy fiction is original to itself, with no prominent antecedent. Purpose: Dynamic conformal arc (DCA) is a three-dimensional (3D) radiation therapy technique that can be used to deliver a simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) during whole-breast irradiation (WBI). This study investigated whether the depth of the lumpectomy cavity affects the feasibility of creating a successful DCA SIB treatment plan for breast radiotherapy.

Although anti-Asian hate has been present throughout history, the country witnessed an uptick in race-based violence and discrimination against Asian Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing the framework of intersectionality, this quantitative cross-sectional study aimed to capture the additive impact of various forms of oppression, including COVID-19-related racial discrimination, on levels of depression, anxiety, and life satisfaction in Chinese American college students (n = 35) in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. During early B cell development, the stepwise arrangement of the B cell receptor (BCR) by immunoglobulin (Ig) gene recombination defines developmental stages and coordinates checkpoints for differentiation. Early pre-B cells express an incomplete version of the BCR, referred to as the pre-BCR, which signals clonal expansion and additional Ig rearrangements. These cellular programs are essential for B cell development and are carried out in a highly regulated fashion during the pre-B cell checkpoint. Clonal expansion defines the strictly proliferative large pre-B cell stage, while Ig rearrangements occur exclusively in small pre-B cells. Chitin, a highly abundant environmental polysaccharide present in fungi, insects, and mites, is continuously encountered at mucosal barrier surfaces and functions as an immunostimulatory particulate substrate within the respiratory tract. Acidic mammalian chitinase (AMCase; CHIA) is an evolutionarily conserved mammalian enzyme that degrades chitin-containing particles and regulates inflammatory responses at barrier tissues. Breast cancer progression is associated with systemic immune dysregulation characterized by the expansion of immunosuppressive myeloid populations that promote tumor progression, metastasis, and resistance to therapy. However, the mechanisms that sustain pathological myeloid expansion remain incompletely understood. In particular, it remains unknown whether solid tumors functionally reprogram hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) to drive enhanced myeloid output and if bone-derived signals can regulate tumor-associated hematopoietic remodeling. In murine models of primary and metastatic breast cancer, tumor progression induced the remodeling of the hematopoietic compartment, characterized by the expansion of HSPCs, enhanced myeloid differentiation, and systemic accumulation of myeloid populations. …

This study systematically reviews the literature on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Hispanic immigrants in the United States, a population exposed to cumulative trauma across the migration process. Stressors may occur before, during, and after migration and include violence, family separation, dangerous travel conditions, discrimination, and fear of deportation. Despite these risks, findings on PTSD prevalence remain mixed, and Hispanic immigrants are underrepresented in clinical research and culturally informed interventions. Spatially separated accelerometers and measured rotational motion can enable estimation of an aircraft’s longitudinal center-of-gravity (CG) location. Because the unrestricted rigid-body governing equations form an underdetermined system, the problem is reduced by assuming known lateral and vertical CG coordinates. The resulting estimator uses the lateral acceleration equation, where sensitivity to longitudinal CG is governed by the rotational excitation term 𝑀_21 = 𝑝𝑞 + 𝑟̇. Three representations of lateral acceleration at the CG are evaluated: a zero- acceleration assumption, a linear sideslip angle model, and a model based on sideslip angle and true airspeed squared. Privately made firearms (PMFs), often referred to as “ghost guns,” are firearms manufactured or assembled by individuals rather than federally licensed manufacturers. Although the terms are frequently used interchangeably, “ghost gun” more specifically describes an unserialized firearm, whereas PMFs include a broader range of firearms produced through nontraditional manufacturing methods. PMFs may be entirely 3-D printed, assembled from partially completed firearm kits, or constructed by integrating additively manufactured components with commercially manufactured firearm parts. Background: Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) affect 20–25% of mothers worldwide and are a leading cause of maternal complications. Stigma, fragmented care, and limited provider training leave families vulnerable, while birth workers offer trusted, continuous support.

Problem: Birth workers' maternal mental health (MMH) training is minimal and often excludes matrescence, the developmental transition to motherhood, limiting their ability to distinguish normal adjustment from clinical PMADs and delaying intervention.

However, less is known about whether exercise may relate to posttraumatic stress symptoms differently when it is accompanied by compulsive or addictive features. The present study examined whether volume and intensity of physical activity were associated with posttraumatic stress symptom severity indirectly through exercise addiction symptoms. Stereotype-based discrimination creates obstacles for women's representation in high-status roles, and even more for mothers, who experience a motherhood penalty in hiring, evaluation, and promotion. While literature identifies how maternal stereotypes lead to external discrimination, little is known about how maternal self-stereotyping creates barriers to women's representation in high-status roles.
