Writing center tutoring is almost universally considered to be beneficial preparation for graduate student instructors (GSIs) of writing, so much so that many programs require writing center experience as part of their GSI training. Despite various similarities between the roles of tutor and teacher, the precise ways in which writing center experience influences GSIs as teachers remain unclear. This IRB-approved, mixed-methods study builds on previous empirical scholarship on transfer between tutoring and teaching to determine how new GSIs with previous writing center experience integrate practices, knowledge, and dispositions developed in the writing center. Video conferencing degrades asymmetrically. When bandwidth falls, a hearing caller loses picture quality and keeps the conversation; a deaf and hard of hearing signer, whose language is carried entirely in the visual modality, loses the conversation. This thesis asks whether signed video reduced to the rates at which commercial platforms fail can be reconstructed at the receiver well enough to keep signing legible. A twostage reduction pipeline crops to the signer and transmits the face and hands at higher fidelity than their surroundings, achieving a reduction of approximately 99%; reconstruction uses a recurrent bottleneck mixer architecture, trained both conventionally and …

Background: The following quality improvement project was performed in a 20-bed Neuro/Medical ICU in a large urban hospital in Northern California. Assessments with the IHI Clinical Microsystem Assessment Tool and the 5 P's framework indicated that the ICU had good practices in place to manage physiologic decompensation of ICU patients, but no practices to prevent delirium in those patients.

Without structural policy intervention, approximately 4.6 million Californians remain at risk of being uninsured by 2030, worsening racial and ethnic health disparities and hospital uncompensated care burdens. This policy analysis advocates for a hybrid universal coverage model combining sliding-scale subsidies (California Senate Bill 78) with full-scope Medi-Cal expansion for all income-eligible residents regardless of legal status (California Assembly Bill 133). The framework relies on existing funding mechanisms, including the Managed Care Organization tax and the Health Care Affordability Reserve Fund. At Hospital A, recent LOS averages exceed internal and regional benchmarks, indicating a need for process improvement.

Prior to this project, palliative care consultation practices were highly variable and lacked standardized criteria, resulting in missed opportunities for early communication and symptom management. Child maltreatment (CM) has been associated with the later development of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among emerging adults. Numerous attachment studies have documented the association of insecure attachments with CM. There is little research on the independent effects of anxious and avoidant maternal attachment on later psychopathology and even less on the effects of peer attachment. A review of the current literature was conducted to examine adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), the neurobiological and developmental effects of childhood trauma, its impact within educational settings, and the trauma-informed approaches for supporting students who have experienced adversity. Background and Purpose: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is increasingly performed under monitored anesthesia care (MAC) to facilitate faster recovery and reduce complications associated with general anesthesia. Standard oxygen therapy (SOT) may be insufficient in maintaining adequate oxygenation in this high-risk population. High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy has emerged as a potential alternative. Object jittering is an issue that arises when rendering objects at large distances from the scene's origin. This challenge arises in software that focuses on rendering realistically scaled planetary systems and games which simulate large open world environments. While there are several techniques in common use that aim to manage jittering, they come with performance tradeoffs. We propose a new technique that combines GPU based emulated double arithmetic with impostor rendering. Our technique aims to eliminate object jittering while maintaining reasonable performance.
