Plans And Specifications Of A Proposed Plant For Treating The High-Grade Silver Concentrate Of The Buffalo Mill By Tube-Mill Amalgamation, Hector George Sylvester Anderson Jan 1912

Plans And Specifications Of A Proposed Plant For Treating The High-Grade Silver Concentrate Of The Buffalo Mill By Tube-Mill Amalgamation, Hector George Sylvester Anderson

Professional Degree Theses

"Pursuant to your orders regarding the making of experimental tests on the high-grade silver concentrate of the Buffalo Mill, both on a small and a commercial scale, to determine the feasibility of extracting the silver contents and refining the same to 999-fine bullion I beg to submit the results of my work which has extended through the past two months. In the majority of the tests I have used a small Abbe-Engineering pebble-jars which will hold easily 1500 grams of ore and have checked the results obtained in these cases by similar results obtained by charging 1000 lbs. of ore …

Depreciation, Reginald Henry Brinton Butler Jan 1912

Depreciation, Reginald Henry Brinton Butler

Professional Degree Theses

"In estimating and stating working costs, we are often brought face to face with an important item of expense, for which no receipt is ever given and no invoice is ever rendered, viz: DEPRECIATION. For this reason perhaps the different ways of charging this liability are innumerable. No two people often have their minds cast into similar moulds and in the charging of this item, the human and personal factor enters very largely into consideration. People differ widely as to just what part of the capital must be laid aside to meet "changing conditions in trade" and what ought to …

A Process For The Separation Of Barite And Sphalerite, Cairy C. Conover, Edwin Robinson Morris Jan 1912

A Process For The Separation Of Barite And Sphalerite, Cairy C. Conover, Edwin Robinson Morris

Bachelors Theses

"The present price of zinc has stimulated a greater interest in Sphalerite Barite separations than has been manifested for some time. A great many processes have been worked on and have failed for many reasons, the main one being that the physical characteristics of the ore varied so much. The process that is successful must be independent of these variations. The following process is one that depends on a chemical phenomenon and is adapted to any sphalerite-barite separation. This series of experiments was performed by the authors at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, Rolla, Mo. and was embodied …

Crystallization Of Magmas, Norman L. Ohnsorg Jan 1912

Crystallization Of Magmas, Norman L. Ohnsorg

Bachelors Theses

"The object of this paper is to arrive at a better explanation of the segregation of magmatic solutions on cooling. In which magmas will be discussed from a chemical and metallurgical lien of reasoning, in showing why such minerals as apatite, magnetite, etc., having a comparatively low melting point, crystallize cut before feldspar and quartz, which have a comparatively high fusion point"--page 1.

Checker Board Drainage Due To Eroded Dikes, Julian Adolph Hielscher Jan 1912

Checker Board Drainage Due To Eroded Dikes, Julian Adolph Hielscher

Bachelors Theses

"The conclusions here drawn are the results of observations made during the past ten summers spent in this region while camping, fishing, and hunting; at first, with the native game wardens and fire rangers; later on independently or in company with some of the many tourists who annually visit this delightful region. In this manner it has been possible to cross and re-cross this territory in almost every direction. The highways into this wilderness are the streams and lakes and the only method of travel is by canoe, though short excursions can be made over land by following the paths …

The Rights Of Access Of An Upland Owner To Navigable Waters, Marshall John Rutherford Jan 1912

The Rights Of Access Of An Upland Owner To Navigable Waters, Marshall John Rutherford

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The question to be discussed in this dissertation is whether or not the upland owners on navigate waters live, by virtue of the position of their land a right of ocean to the free enjoyment of the water in front of the land there of for purpose of navigation.

The question here involved has been considered by many legislatures and courts as well as by many text writers and as a result of such consideration there is a great variety of opinions. I shall in this dissertation direct my attention to the law as believe it be in California.

The Mystic Vision, Charles O. Lee Jun 1911

The Mystic Vision, Charles O. Lee

Graduate Thesis Collection

Pratt opens his work on The Psychology of Religious Beliefs by saying, "that if an atheistic inhabitent of Mars were to visit this planet, greater than the wonder of steam and electricity, would be the fact that we believe in a God whom we have never seen and cannot see". This universal belief in God is a striking thing and the question at once forces itself upon us, why do men believe as they do and what are the psychological bases underlying that belief?

Forms And Powers Of Massachusetts States Boards And Commissions, George Gordon Sampson Jun 1911

Forms And Powers Of Massachusetts States Boards And Commissions, George Gordon Sampson

Historical Dissertations & Theses

Legislatures early adopted the committee system referring bills to them for investigation. The growth in the volume and diversity of laws, together with the shortness of terms and dominance of the theory of rotation in office, rendered expert knowledge on the part of the committee rare. As a result, special committees of the legislature for investigation became common. With the increased pressure of work, it was but a step to the appointment of committees outside of the legislature who were expert in the subject. This practice has continued to this day. Massachusetts was the pioneer in the United States in …

Industrial Education In Massachusetts, Thomas Francis Sullivan Jun 1911

Industrial Education In Massachusetts, Thomas Francis Sullivan

Historical Dissertations & Theses

A study of the history of industrial education in Massachusetts is instructive and of peculiar interest for several reasons. It was the first state to scientifically investigate industrial education, and to pass laws as committing the state to actively engage in the establishment of industrial schools. It has had a more varied history in the administration and control of this form of education than any other state, and exceeds all other states, with the possible exception of New York (in 1911), in the number of and the variety of types of industrial schools.

Some Peculiarities Of Shelley's Rhythm., Ethel Allen Murphy May 1911

Some Peculiarities Of Shelley's Rhythm., Ethel Allen Murphy

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The most striking quality of Shelley's poetry meets our attention once, in the play of ever-changing emotion through his lines. When he called himself "A pard-like Spirit beautiful and swift," he characterized the spirit of his poetry, with its ever-shifting imagery, and its pulsing, leaping rhythms continually falling into new and unexpected adjustments of difficult stresses, but always resolving themselves into a wonderful coherency of thought and form which produces the effect of strange and beautiful music. He builds up large rhythm-forms in what we may call the phrasing of his lines, using the term in a musical sense, and …

The School Garden From An Educational View Point., Emilie Yunker May 1911

The School Garden From An Educational View Point., Emilie Yunker

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

"School gardens are not intended to create gardeners or farmers but to afford the growing boy or girl an opportunity for many aided developments." In the school garden the children are taught by one who can inspire them with a love not only for plants, but for everything else that has life and grows to take care of trees, lawns, flowers, vegetables and such things planted with their own hands. It is a place where the plants together with their friends and enemies have an intimate relation to the child personally; where the lessons are far more vital than anything …

A Study To Determine A Process For The Treatment Of An Amalgamation Tailing, Robert Bruce Mitchell, Edward William Engelmann

Bachelors Theses

"The ore for this series of experiments is the tailing from the old ore-dressing mill at Missouri School of Mines. In undertaking the task of devising a cyanide scheme for this tailing we knew that we had no little amount of work before us, neither were we sure of success, for all attempts thus far to cyanide this tailing had failed"--page 2.

Evidence Relative To The Effect Of Mechanical Mixing Of Charges In The Fire Assay, James Keller Beach Jan 1911

Evidence Relative To The Effect Of Mechanical Mixing Of Charges In The Fire Assay, James Keller Beach

Bachelors Theses

"While mixing has always been suggested in the text books, on assaying, yet it seems that experimental data as to the effect of lack of mixing, or insufficient mixing, is not available. This thesis was conducted in an effort to determine just what variation and irregularity in the fusion of gold and silver ore was caused by non-mixing; i. e., whether the fusion took place in the same length of time, whether the fusion was complete, whether the values were collected and, in general, just what irregularities were incurred"--Statement of the Problem, page 2.

A Summary Of The Theories Of The Origin Of The Lake Superior Copper Ores, With Evidences Pertaining Thereto, Eva Endurance Hirdler Jan 1911

A Summary Of The Theories Of The Origin Of The Lake Superior Copper Ores, With Evidences Pertaining Thereto, Eva Endurance Hirdler

Bachelors Theses

"In each of the foregoing theories we obtain sound reasoning in connection with many facts. Therefore a correlation of these facts ought to give us enough material to deduct a sound theory. The most plausible supposition seems to be that all metallic ores are derived ultimately from the interior of the earth, from a great metallographic province, when they are delivered by igneous eruptives near or at the surface"--Conclusion With Reasons, page 29.
