General Method Of Procedure In The Working Out Of The Uncompahgre Valley Project, Colorado, Leo J. Foster

Masters Theses

"On the 17th of June 1902, Congress passed an act which may have appeared of little moment at that time, but which is not attracting the attention of the people of the United States. It is known on the Statute Books as the Reclamation Act and its purpose is to provide a Reclamation Fund, the said fund being used only to examine and construct Irrigation Works in certain Western States and Territories. This Act provides that the proceeds of the sale of public lands in thirteen States and three Territories, known as the Public Land States, less a deduction of …

A Method Of Obtaining Lead Concentrates From The Slimes Of The St. Joseph Lead Mill, Lewis Alfred Delano Jan 1909

A Method Of Obtaining Lead Concentrates From The Slimes Of The St. Joseph Lead Mill, Lewis Alfred Delano

Professional Degree Theses

"In the concentrating of lead ores, the water used in the mills carries the tailings from the jigs and tables to chatt tanks. Here the chatts and sands settle while the greater part of the water overflows and enters a sluice or slimes branch to the settling ponds. This overflow water carries with it a great deal of float lead. It is impossible to catch this lead in the mill on moving machinery without using too much power and mill space to effect a profitable saving. Ninety percent of this float will pass through a 140 mesh sieve. there will …

Steinmesch Hindered Settling Classifier, Jesse Herman Steinmesch Jan 1909

Steinmesch Hindered Settling Classifier, Jesse Herman Steinmesch

Professional Degree Theses

"The construction of the single classifier is well shown in the attached blueprint.

On the print it will be noted that the classifier is divided into two general parts, an upper hopper-shaped chamber GFED, and a lower portion consisting of the flat tube C, encased by the chamber A. Between upper and lower portions is the gasket L which serves to make a close joint between them, and also by forcing C downward, to make tight joints between A and C at both top and bottom. L is made of 1 ½” board. At D is a plate of #12 …

The Relation Of The Composition Of A Mineral To Its Properties, Edwin Phelps Murray Jan 1909

The Relation Of The Composition Of A Mineral To Its Properties, Edwin Phelps Murray

Professional Degree Theses

"The attempt has been made to bring together and to classify the properties of minerals and to show that there is some simple qualitative relation between their composition and physical properties, or in other words, to show that minerals containing different percentages of a certain element will all have similar properties dependent upon the proportion of that element. Further investigation of this subject would be in determining the modifying influence of crystal form"--page 1.

Minerals And Their Environment Of Formation, Deforrest Don Jan 1909

Minerals And Their Environment Of Formation, Deforrest Don

Bachelors Theses

"The history of mineralogy began with the development of mining and the use of certain minerals as useful products, such as lime, pigments and precious stones. In order to know how to distinguish these minerals when found and where they were likely to found, it was necessary to study the nature, properties and the modes of occurrence. In order to determine all these properties, it was necessary to classify and compare them with the purpose of ascertaining how they resemble each other, and how they differ"--page 1.

Design Of Reinforced Concrete Water Tower And Tank, Harvey Oden Garst, Pearl Frederick Michael Jan 1909

Design Of Reinforced Concrete Water Tower And Tank, Harvey Oden Garst, Pearl Frederick Michael

Bachelors Theses

"Theoretically the most economical dimension for a flat bottomed cylindrical tank would be such that the height of the tank is equal to the diameter, but such a tank does not look as well as one which has the height a little greater than the diameter and as the cost will be affected but little by making the height a few feet greater than the diameter, the most economical design will not be strictly carried out in this particular"--Data, page 1.

The Cyanidation Of High Grade Gold And Silver Concentrate, Reginald Henry Brinton Butler, John Warren Beard

Bachelors Theses

"The cyanidation of high grade gold and silver concentrate is a subject that has lately been attracting the attention of metallurgists in different parts of the world, and offers an interesting field for investigation and research. The inducements are especially strong in districts at log distances from the smelter, and where high freight rates and excessive treatment charges obtain"--page 1.

Pot Roasting Of Lead Ores, Ralph Robert Benedict, Edward Phillip Barrett, Frank William Harper Jan 1908

Pot Roasting Of Lead Ores, Ralph Robert Benedict, Edward Phillip Barrett, Frank William Harper

Bachelors Theses

"In this thesis for a starting point, we attempted a roast of straight galena with no diluent. As anticipated the results were nil. We next attempted the roast with a mixture of galena and silica, and obtained fair results. Our next experiment was to use limestone with the galena. Because of the large percentage of limestone present the results were not satisfactory. Next pyrites and limestone were used with the galena, and excellent results were obtained. We made another run, using pyrites and limestone, but increasing the per-centage of galena by 25%. This run was also very successful. From these …
