John Donne The Preacher., Dick Houston Hall

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In the year 1573 when Shakespeare and Marlowe were already boys of nine, Chapman in adolescence, Spenser, Lyly and Richard Hooker men of twenty, John Donne, then important to only a few but destined to the company of royalty, was born. Walton says, in his very excellent but inadequate and often inaccurate “Lives of Dr. John Donne, etc.,” that his father as descended “from an ancient and worth family in Wales.” Gosse, however, calls this simply “a pious wish” because nothing is known of his father’s parentage. He was prosperous iron merchant of London, who died in 1576 leaving his …

The Properties Of The Fire Clays Used For The Manufacture Of Zinc Retorts, Adolph Harmon Kuechler

Masters Theses

"The ultimate object of this refractories investigation is to develop a body for zinc retorts, or changes in the method of their manufacture, that will result in better retorts than the ones now in use. In doing this, the question of permissible cost must, at all times, be kept in mind. The immediate object of the present phase of this investigation, of which this thesis covers only a part, is to determine the physical and chemical properties of the refractories (fire clays, grogs, bodies, etc.) now used for the manufacture of zinc retorts. This will be a basis for later …

Effect Of The Size Of Particles Of Zinc Ore And Carbon Upon The Rate Of Reduction Of Zinc Ore By Carbon, Keith Oxley Alexander

Masters Theses

"In the retort smelting of zinc ores one of the chief metallurgical problems is to obtain as complete a reduction of the zinc as is consistent with economical operation. Among the factors influencing the completeness of reduction are the temperature and time of distillation, the form in which the zinc exists in the ore, the form of carbon used as reducer, and the size of the particles or ore and reducer"--Introduction, page 1.

Scientific Discoveries Concerned With Pathogenic Micro-Organisms, Matilda Mary Steinbrecher Sep 1924

Scientific Discoveries Concerned With Pathogenic Micro-Organisms, Matilda Mary Steinbrecher

Bachelors’ Theses

Stand where you choose some calm night and look up into the great dome of the sky. Realize that those countless stars, once believed to regulate our destinies, have been proven by science to be other worlds more or less like ours. Let your thoughts wander on to objects near at hand. You see the rocks and soil and plants as did mankind for ages back; but where they not so long back saw nought else, you see rocks breaking into fertile soil and realize that minute living beings are responsible. You have come to understand that all the nitrogen …

The Slidell Mission To Mexico, John H. Walker Jun 1924

The Slidell Mission To Mexico, John H. Walker

Graduate Thesis Collection

Historical events are very likely to make impressions upon contemporary writers of their history quite different from those upon the historians of later times. The intervening years are essential for the proper perspective, the appreciation of their significance, and the separation of associated events. A more accurate view of any historical event should come to those whom time has carried beyond it. In case the event be the result of governmental policies, political bias will then be less influential. The original researches and secondary complications of later writers of American history have resulted in a much better understanding of the …

Industrial Relations - In The Following Divisions 1. Education And Department Training 2. Research And Shop Committees, Clarence E. Markhoff

Bachelors’ Theses

Probably the most important problem tha.t ever occurred in the Industrial World is that of Industrial Relations. This problem has not only proven itself to be of special importance today, but has existed ever since the beginning of time; ever since there existed a manager and the party managed; ever since one man worked for or was hired by another; ever since there existed the employer, the individual on one side, and the employee, the individual on the other. This problem might well be called a problem of Human Relations and in that way, I believe, it will be more …

Efficient Management Of A Concrete Machinery Manufacturing Concern In The State Of Wisconsin, Elmer S. Hollensteiner

Bachelors’ Theses

Efficient management is a subject which has been extensively treated - volumes upon volumes have been written treating the subject in general, as it relates to the shop, to the office, to individual departments. And yet, when one has once worked in a shop or in an office he begins to realize how industries merely attempt to follow efficient methods, but utterly fail. Either because of the wrong system or methods employed, or because of inefficient executives, or because of a wrong kind of manager at the head of a certain department who may be responsible for the entire lack …

Banking Reforms During The Last Century, Alfred E. Bentzin

Bachelors’ Theses

Banking of today is a truly complex science. It is a fundamental part of our present social system and is a basic element in our economic life. From the crude early stages of money lending, down to our own intricate system of capital raising, banking has been influenced favorably or adversely by the current political issues, by the prevailing social opinions and by the economic condition of the day. It has passed through many storms; it has been tested in the crucible of many panics. I has emerge scarred and shaken, but still impact.
