Ethical View Of Testamentary Rights Vs. The California Law, John Burnett Jan 1926

Ethical View Of Testamentary Rights Vs. The California Law, John Burnett

Student Theses

The right to make a will is essentially a property right. The entity with which a will is concerned is the testator's property and there is a very close relation between the right to acquire property when alive and the right to say who will get one 's property when one is gone.
Seeing, therefore, that wills and property are so closely allied, in order to better understand the ethical view of testaments and testamentary rights , it would be well to give a brief resume of the ethical view of property and property rights.

The First Nomination Of Benjamin Harrison For The Presidency, Paul M. Ross Jan 1926

The First Nomination Of Benjamin Harrison For The Presidency, Paul M. Ross

Graduate Thesis Collection

In his annual message to Congress in December 1887, President Grover Cleveland disregarded an heretofore set custom and established a precedent by devoting his whole attention to one question alone - that of the tariff. Pointing out the dangers of retaining a surplus in the Treasury, he stated that he favored a decrease in import duties as a means of reducing the accumulated surplus. The support accorded President Cleveland by the Democratic House, in framing the Mills Bill, and by the Democratic National Convention indicated the willingness of the Democrats to make the tariff the major issue of the ensuing …

Some Of Goethe's Youthful Figures Viewed Today : Einige Von Goethes Jugendlichen Gestalen Heute Betrachtet, Ruth H. Landrum

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

During the world war the general attitude of our country against the Germans was so hostile that we …

The Celt And Shelley : A Study Of Certain Contrasts And Resemblances Between Welsh Literature And Shelley's Poetry, Benjamin Harrison Lewis

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Now as to what are the ends to be attained; there will be an attempt to compare and contrast the outstanding Shelleyan qualities which have been quite generally accepted with those of the Cymric Celts. But it is quite evident by the very limitation of time and space at our disposal, that the present treatment of style in the Celt and Shelley must be somewhat restricted.

An Ecological Study Of Timpanogos Creek From Aspen Grove To Wildwood, Marion L. Harris Jan 1926

An Ecological Study Of Timpanogos Creek From Aspen Grove To Wildwood, Marion L. Harris

Theses and Dissertations

Ecology may be oonsidered as one of the vital parts of botany, since there are two ultimate facts in this science; namely, the plant and its habitat . The habitat is made up of the physical factors that control function. At Timpanogos there are so many different habitats, that the chief problem is not that of finding a problem to study, but rather that of selecting one from the many. The purpose of this paper is to point out some of the interesting features that are found in a study of Timpanogos Creek from Aspen Grove to Wildwood.

Preparation Of Acridyl Ethyl Amine., Louis Harold Howland 1902-1964 Jan 1926

Preparation Of Acridyl Ethyl Amine., Louis Harold Howland 1902-1964

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Acridine is a compound that has a ring system similar to anthracene except that one of the CH groups is replaced by a -N- group. It is possible for this compound to have desmotropic forms as those that follow. When an amino group is present in the 3 or 6 position, there is possible another desmotropic form that probably causes a deepening in the color of the compound. Acridine and its derivatives are obtained by the destructive distillation of coal. It occurs in the crude anthracene obtained from the coal tar. Many of its derivatives are used as dyes and …

Sir Richard Steele, Reformer., H. Carter Davidson Jan 1926

Sir Richard Steele, Reformer., H. Carter Davidson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Because the critics of the eighteenth century admired form more than thought, Sir Richard Steele has been sadly neglected and all honours have been heaped upon his literary partner, Joseph Addison. Slowly the readers of the twentieth century are beginning to realize that Steele had all the originality, while Addison had nothing but polish. It is to present a few of the astoundingly original and influential ideas of Steele that this paper has been written. To the best of my knowledge after some extended search, the reforms of Richard Steele have not been treated, at least not in the manner …

The Farce Element In Moliere., Louise Diecks Jan 1926

The Farce Element In Moliere., Louise Diecks

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

To gain a true appreciation of the works of any author, we must first be familiar with his race, his environment, and the period in which and of which he wrote. The Paris of the early seventeenth century was far different from the modern metropolis of today. It was the Paris of ill-paved, badly lighted streets where beggar and peasant starved and marquises rolled by in their emblazoned coaches, where d’Artagnan and the King’s musketeers spread romance and challenged authority and where conspiracy brewed and criminals died upon the pillory. It was a pleasure-loving and pleasure-seeking, merry, carefree populace in …

Synthesis Of Nitro Acridine Derivatives., Martin Friedrich Jan 1926

Synthesis Of Nitro Acridine Derivatives., Martin Friedrich

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

At the present time there is not much known about derivatives of acridine. However, there are derivatives of acridine which are important as dyes, drugs and antiseptics. Chrysaniline, rheonine, benzoflavine, are examples of leather dyes which are used extensively. The theory of Perkins and Robinson, says that the acridine ring system is probably present in strychnine and brucine, so a further study of the derivatives of acridine may shed light on the true structure of these alkaloids. Some derivatives of acridine such as rivanol and acriflavine have a specific physiological effect, others are used as silver salts in killing of …

Acridine And Its Derivatives., Altemiro Ferreira Vianna Jan 1926

Acridine And Its Derivatives., Altemiro Ferreira Vianna

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Acridine was discovered by Graebe and Caro who found that it accompanied the crude anthracene obtained from coal-tar. For its isolation, the portion of the tar distilling at 300°- 360° C. was extracted by dilute sulphuric acid and precipitated by potassium dichromate, the precipitate recrystallized from hot water and then decomposed by dilute ammonia. The free base was then dissolved in hot hydrochloric acid, from this solution acridine hydrochloride was thrown out by addition of an excess of concentrated hydrochloric acid. From this salt the free acridine was liberated by ammonia.

The Achievements Of The Negro, Callie Mabel Walker Jan 1926

The Achievements Of The Negro, Callie Mabel Walker

All Theses

To relate the achievements of the Negro would make a long narrative. I have endeavored to set forth, step by step the advancement of the Negro in culture and accomplishment. The facts that I have employed relative to the Negro's achievements through the topics of education, business, and politics were obtained through diligent investigation of different sources, such as history, science, and literature. Just what part the Negro has played in the attainment of our present civilization, has been carefully considered and the results carefully and painstakingly listed. A brief history of the early Negro has been given so that …

Mining Methods At The Higueras District, State Of Coahuila, Mexico, Harry Herbert Hughes Jan 1926

Mining Methods At The Higueras District, State Of Coahuila, Mexico, Harry Herbert Hughes

Professional Degree Theses

"The Higueras district, in the State of Coahuila, Mexico, is little known even in Mexico; and it is probably safe to say that not one out of every hundred engineers in the United States has even heart of it. This is easily accounted for by the fact that the district is small and relatively unimportant economically. Also, as one becomes more accustomed to think of mines, such as some of the big copper deposits, with productions running into thousands of tons daily, there is a tendency to pass over the small ones, giving them only a passing thought, if that. …

Recovery Of Carbonate Copper Ore By Means Of Flotation At The Kennecott Copper Corporation Plant, Kennecott, Alaska, George Leo Richert

Professional Degree Theses

"The Kennecott Copper Corporation mines and the adjoining Mother Lode Coalition Co. mine, which the Kennecott Copper Corporation controls and operates as an integral part of their Kennecott, Alaska camp, are situated in the Nizina Mining District, 196 miles inland from Cordova, Alaska, the tide-water shipping point. The first claims were discovered in 1900, and these later became the property of the Kennecott Copper Corporation. The Kennecott holdings consist of 111 mineral claims and the Mother Lode Coalition Co. has 73 claims"--Introduction, page 4.

Fault Areas Of South Eastern Kansas Coal Beds, George Elmer Abernathy Jan 1926

Fault Areas Of South Eastern Kansas Coal Beds, George Elmer Abernathy

Professional Degree Theses

"The most important coal producing district of the state as well as the oldest in point of age of production is that section of the coal bearing formations located in Crawford and Cherokee county Kansas, which also extends into Barton county, Missouri.

The district has a surface area of about 260 to 300 square miles. The eastern boundary of the district is the outcrop of the lower coal bed known as the Weir-Pittsburg bed. The outcrop follows a more or less irregular line from a few miles north of Columbus, Kansas, and runs in a general northeast direction, passing just …

The Russians In California (Prior To 1842), Kenneth D. Mackenzie Jan 1926

The Russians In California (Prior To 1842), Kenneth D. Mackenzie

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

To the individual interested in the history of California, and the influence of early inhabitants of the state on its future life and development, a study of the coming of the Russians early in the nineteenth century, of their comparatively brief stay of about thirty years, and of the effect which their presence had upon the policies and activities of at least three other nations, is one which will prove to be of surprisingly great interest. Taken together with the events leading up to the "re-discovery" of Americans by Russian navigators, and with their pioneering struggles in Alaska, such a …

National Traits As Revealed In The Revenge Theme In Tragedy, Hazel Pauline Glaister Jan 1926

National Traits As Revealed In The Revenge Theme In Tragedy, Hazel Pauline Glaister

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In the Renaissance drama, revenge is known as a revenge of blood, generally the “eye for an eye” variety of retaliation. The revenge of late periods deals with the return injury directed not only to the body of the opponent but also to his mental discomfort.

It is the aim of this thesis to present the different types of revenge in tragic dramas and by means of them to show how the life, manners, and attitude of the various nationalities are reflected in dramas dealing with this theme.

The Influence Of Sixteenth Century Voyages On Elizabethan Literature., Elizabeth Nugent Jan 1926

The Influence Of Sixteenth Century Voyages On Elizabethan Literature., Elizabeth Nugent

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

It is the purpose of this thesis to show what influence the sixteenth century voyagers had on the Elizabethan writers. For expediency, we have divided these voyages into two classes: namely, the early, from Columbus, 1492, to Vasca de Gama, 1498; and the later voyagers from de Gama to Captain Smith, 1603. We find that commerce instigated nearly all early navigation. The Turks having cut off the Mediterranean trade route with India in 1453, it was necessary to find another water route to this country. As a direct consequence, Columbus discovered the West Indies in 1492 and claimed the new …

The Effects Of Ice Cream In The Diet Of Young Life., Mildred A. Schneiderhan Jan 1926

The Effects Of Ice Cream In The Diet Of Young Life., Mildred A. Schneiderhan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Much work has been done in the past on the nutritional value in young life of different dairy products, all of which experiments have been carried to successful completion by various men at different times. There is, however, no published information demonstrating the comparative values resulting from experimental work in the nutritional value of ice cream as a supplementary diet in infant life. For the purpose of the following experiments, the albino rat, (Mus Norvegicus Albinus) and the Norway rat, (Mus Nor vegicus), together with Guinea Pigs and cats were used. It is a well-known fact that rats exhibit the …
