A Study Of The Variations In The Growth Of Blue Grama Grass From Seed Produced In Various Sections Of The Great Plains Region, Andrew Riegel

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

During the past 7 years the Great Plains Region, with its "dust bowl", has been the scene of unparalleled activity in the fields of range management and erosion control. The people of this short grass area are extremely conscious of the need for a sound, practical program of conservation that will revegetate the wasted pasture and cultivated land, which will aid materially in preserving the eroding soil. Many problems have arisen as the program of conserving the soil and the vegetation has progressed.

Do the mechanics involved in recording answers for standardized tests on separate answer sheets reduce the reliability and the average raw scores made? It is the purpose of this investigation to answer this question. The Additional Responsibility Of The School And Character Development, Virginia Lorene Stanley Aug 1939

The Additional Responsibility Of The School And Character Development, Virginia Lorene Stanley

All Theses

Character is what we are. This statement often made is essentially true. Character is what we are. But whether we are of good character or had is oftimes beyond our Influence. For a person is a composite result of heredity and environment. No one has been able yet to state the determined ratio between the two. But it Is known that it does exist. Since this is true there is only one thing for man to do if he desires to aid the child in building up good character. He can do nothing to the child's inheritance but he can …

A Proposed Program Of Vocational Guidance In The Schools Of Freestone County, Annie Mae Riles Aug 1939

A Proposed Program Of Vocational Guidance In The Schools Of Freestone County, Annie Mae Riles

All Theses

Vocational guidance is an educational service and as such should be considered an integral part of the educational program carried on by the recognized educational agency of the community. Growth of industry and great expansion of the number of possible callings ling ago rendered the choice of a vocation difficult. No social agency existed through which the individual might receive assistance, hence the school - somewhat tardily - assumed this function. Ways and mean have been devised to accumulate information about the various vocations and to put the individual in possession of a reasonable amount of this information so that …

Origin And Development Of Tissues In The Root Of Daucus Carota, L., M. Gerald Vodde Aug 1939

Origin And Development Of Tissues In The Root Of Daucus Carota, L., M. Gerald Vodde

Bachelors’ Theses

When botanists of the seventeenth century began their anatomical investigations of plants, their attention was quite naturally centered on the parts of the plant which they most readily observed growing above the ground. The Englishman, Robert Hooke (1661), revolutionized the botanical sciences when he announced his discovery of the fact that plant tissues are composed of cavities which he called cells. Many workers enthusiastically took up the study of plant tissues and the individual cells of which these tissues are composed. Progress was rather slow, and it was not until approximately two hundred years later that the cell theory was …

A Study Of The Proteolytic Activity Of The Enzyme Papain On Various Brands Of Gelatine, Mary Christella Zeszuto Aug 1939

A Study Of The Proteolytic Activity Of The Enzyme Papain On Various Brands Of Gelatine, Mary Christella Zeszuto

Bachelors’ Theses

The measurement of the ·viscosity of liquids by means of capillary tubes has been carried on for more than a hundred years. It was not, however, until 1846 that the results of Poiseuille's research were given to the public. For the comprehensive study he made of the problem, the concept of the laws controlling viscometry flow is attributed to him. The study of the same problem. was continued by many others in subsequent years. Their results, in general, verify the principles given by Poiseuille, but corrections attributed to conditions other than viscous flow have been suggested. These involve drainage, liquid …

A Method For Comparing And Measuring The Drying Time Of Glues, William C. Strutz Aug 1939

A Method For Comparing And Measuring The Drying Time Of Glues, William C. Strutz

Bachelors’ Theses

The measurements or quality in glue testing are arbitrary and are of value only when compared to a standard glue or when comparing one glue to another. Glues have been used for hundreds of years, but it has been only in the last forty or fifty years that any scientific investigations of any consequence have been made. Prior to this time glues were made by rule of thumb by practical men who learned the art of glue making from other practical men in the business and by contact with the industry. "When the United States entered the Great War and …

Copper Chromium Oxide As A Catalyst In The Hydrogenation Of Castor Oil, Mary Sebaldus Rueger

Bachelors’ Theses

Catalysts are essential to most hydrogenation reactions. Very few hydrogenations occur in the absence of some sort of catalyst. Thus, the earlier work of Bergius on coal hydrogenation was non-catalytic, but more recently the process has become practically entirely catalytic thru the development of the I. G. Farbenindustrie in Germany.

The Pro-Embryo And The Embryo Of Chara, Mary William Saller

However, the earliest results, in the light of present day research, differ particularly in one important respect; namely, the origin of the embryo.

A Comparative Study Of The Proteolytic Activity Of Trypsin On Various Gelatins, Louis Hinkle Coggs Aug 1939

A Comparative Study Of The Proteolytic Activity Of Trypsin On Various Gelatins, Louis Hinkle Coggs

Bachelors’ Theses

Since 1839, the viscosity of liquids has been measured by means of capillary tubes. However, it was not until the year 1846, that the results of Poiaeu1lle's research were :made known to the public. Because of the comprehensiveness of Poiseuille's work, the concept of the laws controlling viscometry flow is attributed to him. For one hundred rears the subject of viscometry has been studied by many. During these years the principle a propounded by Poiseuille have been verified in general, but various corrections and modifications of viscometers in regard to drainage, surface tension, liquid head, and kinetic energy have been …

The Nursery School Child His Care And Training, Lottie Darlene Martin Aug 1939

The Nursery School Child His Care And Training, Lottie Darlene Martin

All Theses

Some pre-school children offer a serious problem to the public school teacher because the parent has neglected the training of the child, so that he may fit into the school program. Thus it is the duty of the nursery school to prepare and equip the pre-school child so as to bridge the gap between the home and the public schools. Never before in the history of the world have so many people given thought to one subject as have been given to the study of the child. This is an age of child study. Our greatest magazines and newspapers open …

All Theses

In making this study, the writer had three purposes in view: First, to find some of the possibilities of using Negro students' autobiographies in a scientific description of family relationships; second, to study the association between certain family relationships as described in these autobiographies and to find whether some were more closely associated than others; and third, on the basis of the associations, to formulate rules or tentative standards for a successful family.

The study included autobiographies from one hundred twelve Prairie View Students, the majority of which came from Rural and Urban families of Texas.
