Influence Of Time And Temperature In The Roasting Of Sulphides, Roger Hanson Hatchett Jan 1899

Influence Of Time And Temperature In The Roasting Of Sulphides, Roger Hanson Hatchett

Bachelors Theses

"The original object of this work was to determine the relation between the quantities of oxide and sulphate formed in roasting a sulphide under known conditions of temperature, time and supply of air. But difficulties arose in constructing apparatus, which in the short time allotted could not be overcome. These are mentioned in description of apparatus, and were of such a nature that the relations between products and conditions are for the most part qualitative"--page 1.

Assay Of Copper Matte For Gold And Silver, Walter E. Soest Jan 1899

Assay Of Copper Matte For Gold And Silver, Walter E. Soest

Bachelors Theses

"Ores containing copper, and especially copper matte, have always been very annoying in assaying for the precious metals. In assaying copper matte, and ores containing much copper, by the usual method of scorification, the losses of silver an gold are considerable, owing to the fact that in order to obtain lead buttons, which are soft and free from copper, repeated scorifications are necessary, and moreover it is impossible to obtain lead buttons which are entirely free from copper"--page 1.

The Strength Of Cement Under Different Conditions, Francis Joseph Tayman Jan 1899

The Strength Of Cement Under Different Conditions, Francis Joseph Tayman

Bachelors Theses

"Derivation of some Empirical Formulae, showing relation between breaking strength, and various functions which enter into Cement testing. We find a great deal of experimental work done in Cement testing, also some curves plotted, but there are but few equations fitted to these curves, this, then, is the object of the present work. In this work a great many interesting points have been made manifest, most of them are of no practical value but merely of interest in themselves. The work has been on several of the most important ones, to be given subsequently. On these and a few others …

Gold Chlorination, Edwin Thompson Perkins

Bachelors Theses

"In a process of gold chlorination recently introduced and apparently used with success in Southern Australia, potassium permanganate, common salt and sulphuric acid were used as the generators of the chlorine. A series of experiments was made to determine the efficisacy of these reagents and for developing chlorine as compared with other methods in use"--page 1.

Pennsylvania Coal Fields, Arthur D. Terrell Jan 1899

Pennsylvania Coal Fields, Arthur D. Terrell

Bachelors Theses

"The use of mineral coal dates back before the Christian Era.

The mining of coal, however, is much more recent.

About the 18th century coal mining began to be scientifically executed.

The area of Anthracite coal fields in Penn. is not quite 500 square miles included in outcrop lines of its lowest beds"--page 1.

Plans For Humansville Waterworks, James O. Hendricks, Howard Joshua Taylor Jan 1899

Plans For Humansville Waterworks, James O. Hendricks, Howard Joshua Taylor

Bachelors Theses

"Humansville is a thriving town of about 1200 inhabitants, situated in Polk county, Missouri, about 120 miles Southeast of Kansas City, with which city it is connected by the Kansas City and Memphis Railroad. The object of this Thesis is to design a system of waterworks for Humansville"--page ii.

Design Of A Mining Plant, George C. Clark Jan 1899

Design Of A Mining Plant, George C. Clark

Bachelors Theses

"It is to be hoped that in the perusal of this short discussion, the idea will not be lost sight of that the work has been done by a novice - probably a needless caution as the fact is patent at every step. Again, while the work is supposed to be laid along practical lines, no attempt has been made to abbreviate and show merely what is absolutely necessary. As the subject is treated as a thesis and not as a proposition to contractors, the attempt has been made to show the method of arriving at conclusions, and when necessary …

Cement Testing, Arthur D. Terrell

Bachelors Theses

"For a Thesis in 1898 I did some work on cement testing with very satisfactory results, but I did but little more than get a few ideas as to how to conduct the experiments to best advantage. For the present year I have taken up the work for further investigation"--page 1.

The Evolution Of Cooking Apparatus With Some Tests With The Aladdin Oven, Hattie Dibble Jan 1899

The Evolution Of Cooking Apparatus With Some Tests With The Aladdin Oven, Hattie Dibble

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Inventions are but brought forth spontaneously; they are a growth. We cannot conceive of a mind which is capable, without the aid and thoughts of other minds of investing anyone of the many machines and apparatus which so far assist in lightening and perfecting man’s work. The most of our inventions are new combinations of other inventions made to serve men purposes. It will be the endeavor of this paper to show this growth as it is manifested in cooking apparatus, by showing its evolution from the very crudest forms up to the present degree of perfection.

The Neocene Lake Beds Of Western Montana And Descriptions Of Some New Vertebrates From The Loup Fork, Earl Douglass Jan 1899

The Neocene Lake Beds Of Western Montana And Descriptions Of Some New Vertebrates From The Loup Fork, Earl Douglass

Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers

Since coming to Montana in the spring of 1894 I have spent rnuoh of ay time in studying the lake bed deposits in the western part of the state, and in collecting and studying the vertebrate fossils found in them. These deposits occur in nearly every large valley in the westem part of the state. I have myself observed them in the valleys of the upper Missouri (above the re-rrion of Helena), Gallatin, Madison, Jefferson, Beaverhead, Ruby, Big Hole, Hell Gate, and Bitter Boot rivers, and their tributaries.

The Manufacture Of Portland Cement, Herman C. Cowen Jan 1898

The Manufacture Of Portland Cement, Herman C. Cowen

Professional Degree Theses

"The principal characteristics which, in the process of manufacture, sharply and clearly distinguish Portland cement from Limes, Hydraulic Limes, and other Hydraulic cements, are the necessity for carefully proportioning and finely grinding the raw materials to insure a homogenous [sic] mixture, and the extremely high temperature at which it must be burned in order to insure a sound a trustworthy product"--page 1.

The Electrolysis Of The Water Of A Copper Sulphate Solution, Ralph Barker Jan 1898

The Electrolysis Of The Water Of A Copper Sulphate Solution, Ralph Barker

Bachelors Theses

"The idea prevails generally, that when an electric current is passed through a copper sulphate solution, the water will be electrolysed sic when the difference of potential between the electrodes reaches about one and one-half volts. The object of the experiments detailed below was to determine whether or not the density of the solution has any effect on the electrolysis of the water, and if any such existed, to find out if there was any relation between them"--page 1.

Derivation Of Some Empirical Formulae, Showing Relation Between Breaking Strength And Various Functions Which Enter Into Cement Testing, Arthur D. Terrell

Bachelors Theses

"Although we find a great many results of experimental work in cement testing, and some curves plotted, there seems to have been very little attempt made toward fitting equations to these curves. This then leaves an opening for original investigation. During my experiments quite a variety of interesting points have been made manifest. Most of them are of no practical benefit, but merely of interest in themselves. My work has been on a few of the most important ones, which will be given subsequently"--page 1.

Thesis, William H. Knox Jan 1898

Thesis, William H. Knox

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

All soil constituents are formed form the disintegration of rocks with the exception of a small percent of organic matter. The soil is sometimes removed as fast as formed by the action of water and air. Streams of running water, tides and waves, or the moving of immense ice fields called glaciers are the most active agencies. The land formed by the deposition of the materials carried by glaciers is usually known as drift. A large portion of the soil of the northeastern prairies has been formed in this way. Particularly is this true of the land lying east of …

Introduction: “Upon the education of the American school girl depends the future of the American home.” The object of all education is to prepare men and women for the duties and pleasures of life, to make good citizens, useful men and women of our boys and girls. Every accomplishment a girl possesses is one more thing toward making her a useful woman. Sewing bases its claim to a place in the schools on the same grounds that give wood-work a foothold. “It is a form of Manual Training of hand and head work, of training of the hand for the …
