Chemical Control -- Influence On Manufacture And Quality Of Cement, Joseph Owen Hunt Jan 1931

Chemical Control -- Influence On Manufacture And Quality Of Cement, Joseph Owen Hunt

Professional Degree Theses

"Definition:- Portland cement may be defined as the product obtained by finely pulverizing clinker produced by calcining to incipient fusion an intimate and properly proportioned mixture of argillaceous and calcareous materials with no additions subsequent to calcination excepting water and calcined or uncalcined gypsum. While a review of Portland cement analysis would show a wide variation in chemical composition, it must not be supposed that such latitude in proportioning the raw material really exists. If the resulting Portland cement is to be sound, normal setting, and of good strength it is imperative that the raw materials shall be correctly proportioned …

Professional Degree Theses

"This ore is mined from a quartz vein which is refined by small seams of graphitic clay material, and the walls of the vein consist of a sort of graphitic shaley material. The milling process in use consists of stamp milling followed by the separation into sand and primary slime in Dorr Duplex Classifiers. The primary slime overflow from these classifiers, which is all practically thru 220 mesh, is thickened and treated by flotation. Normally and with a good supply of …

Newspaper Propaganda During Time Of War, Evelyn L. Senn Dec 1930

Newspaper Propaganda During Time Of War, Evelyn L. Senn

Bachelors’ Theses

Twelve years have elapsed since the World Powers engaged in a great conflict. Nationality and sanity have taken the place of war frenzy. Bias, hate, and prejudice should have lost their sting. A paper on the newspaper's part in war propaganda would be difficult to write during a war or just after one, because it would be difficult to treat sanely; now, however, the vast world public can see impartially how efforts were made to forge public opinion.

A Study Of The Miscibility Of Various Liquids With Ethylene Glycol, Joseph J. Furlong Sep 1930

A Study Of The Miscibility Of Various Liquids With Ethylene Glycol, Joseph J. Furlong

Bachelors’ Theses

Ethylene glycol is a compound possessing great interest, both from a theoretical and a practical standpoint. In its properties it lies midway between ethyl alcohol, C2H50H, and glycerol, C3H5(0H)3, the three compounds together forming an homologous series of alcohols.

A few years ago this substance was a scientific curiosity, produced solely by laboratory methods, and without any commercial value, although it had been known for more than sixty years. Today the manufacturers cannot produce enough glycol to satisfy the growing demand. The DuPont organization wanted to use it in a …

Electrodeposition Of Rubber Upon An Electrode By Means Of A Direct Current Of Electricity, L. F. Novotny Aug 1930

Electrodeposition Of Rubber Upon An Electrode By Means Of A Direct Current Of Electricity, L. F. Novotny

Bachelors’ Theses

The rubber industry may be said to be one of the most speedily developed industries in the world. This is due to a great extent to the fact that the first real interest in rubber as a material of commerce came in the advent of the automobile. It was in 1888 that an Irish horse doctor, John Boyd Dunlop, conceived the idea of tying a rubber tube around the wheels of his little son's velocipede. Within seven years of this event, a $25,000,000 corporation was manufacturing Dunlop tires.

Something may also be said here of the man who took the …

The Place Of Catechetical Instruction In Catholic Education, Anne H. Graham

Bachelors’ Theses

Catechetical instruction in the Church dates from St. Paul, and is mentioned in his Epistles. Requirements for admission into the primitive Church were exacting and thorough. The writings of the Fathers, the ancient liturgies, and the decrees of the first Councils tell us that before their Baptism, the catechumens were obliged to learn by heart the Our Father and the Apostles' Cree, and had to be instructed in these formulas. In addition, special instruction was also given them regarding the Commandments and the Sacraments they were about to receive - Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist.

Testing Program In Junior High School History, Winifred Farley Jul 1930

Testing Program In Junior High School History, Winifred Farley

Bachelors’ Theses

A. glance into the history of education reveals changes too numerous and too obvious to mention, in aims, ideals, and purposes. Likewise have changes come, in some cases, imperceptibly -- again, very deliberately in content, method, and extent. One feature that seems rooted in educational antiquity is some type of examination procedure.

Probably the best known, and certainly one to the most elaborate, of the ancient systems of examinations was that maintained by the Chinese, but the Greeks, the Romans, and many other peoples employed them as well. In fact, definite tests of what has been learned have had their …

Geography And The Problem Method As Applied To The Adolescent, Gertrude Gede Jul 1930

Geography And The Problem Method As Applied To The Adolescent, Gertrude Gede

Bachelors’ Theses

Authorities agree that a working knowledge of geography is necessary in the life of everybody. When this knowledge can best be obtained, where it can best be obtained and how it can best be obtained have been the ever recurrent questions among schoolmen throughout all ages. What constitutes this knowledge and what part of this knowledge is essential to the everyday and workaday life of an individual have been much mooted questions. Everyone is agreed that the only worthwhile knowledge is that which remains a part of his life experiences and which carries over into life as a means of …
