"The American fluor spar mines of economic importance are located in the Southern part of Illinois and Western Kentucky. The largest mines are in Hardin County, Illinois, Those in Kentucky are in Crittenden, Livingstone and Caldwell Counties. At the present time the Illinois mines are the largest producers. The two principal mining companies in operation are: The Rosiclare Lead & Fluor Spar Mines and the Fairview Fluorspar & Lead Mines. These mines are located about a half mile from Rosiclare which is on the Ohio River"--Location, page 1.

"The purpose of this paper is to give a description of the most important mining operations of the Arizona Copper Company at Morenci, Arizona, during the years 1911, 1912 and 1913. This work was planned in the engineering department by the mine superintendent, Mr. John Kiddie, while the author was employed in his office as chief mine surveyor from November 1911 to September 1913. As in other mining districts of the southwest, the rich contact and pocket, copper deposits in the Clifton-Morenci district have been nearly exhausted, necessitating the development and extraction of the low-grade porphyry deposits"--Introduction, Page 1.

"Kahlenberg and Hillyer have shown that lead oxide (PbO) dissolves in neutral potassium tartrate to form a strongly alkaline solution in which the ratio of potassium to lead is 1:1. Since this solution shows a very low concentration of lead ion it might be expected to give a smooth and adherent cathode deposit. The purpose of this thesis is to determine its possible applicability as a refining electrolyte"--page 1.

"Petroleum Is a mixture of hydrocarbons. It is a liquid varying from colorless, through yellow and brown to black. It varies from 1.0 to 0.80 in specific gravity, which corresponds to 10° to 45° Beaume. It varies widely in physical properties, such as viscosity, ignition point, polarization of light, etc. Chemically it is composed essentially of carbon and hydrogen, but usually contains impurities such as sulphur and nitrogen. "The chief object of the work has been the location of the Roubidoux-Jefferson City contact, if it occurred within a mile of the railroad. Distances and positions along the track were obtained by the use of a map and by counting telephone poles. Other locations were made by obtaining their bearing and distance from these points by the use of a compass and by pacing. Elevations were carried by aneroid barometers, using the railroad elevations at mile points as bench marks. The object of this test was to determine experimentally, the live load stresses in the main members of the Racine Street Bridge, and thus to ascertain whether or not the theoretical live and dead load stresses were greater or less than the theoretical dead load plus the actual live load stresses. If less, the bridge could not be considered safe for the traffic which it now carries. Carbon is an element of great importance and very - extensively diffused in nature. It exists in large quantities in the mineral kingdom and is the most abundant constituent of animal and vegetable matter. It assumes a greater number of aspects than any of the elements we deal with in connection with iron. In the crystallized state it constitutes the diamond and more or less pure, it forms the substance called plumbago, graphite, black-lead, anthracite and bituminous coal, coke, animal and vegetable charcoal.
