"The Electrolytic Process is a process capable of almost unlimited mechanicalization. For obvious reasons it is more economic to treat high grade concentrates; yet, the extremely high grade concentrates are not essential. The Electrolytic Process can treat economically concentrates as low as 30.% zinc under certain conditions. It is significant that as the grade of concentrates offered for treatment is lowered, the treatment cost per ton of concentrates decreases for the Electrolytic Process; whereas, it will increase, as previously stated, for the Retort Process. This includes the securing of 139 water samples from water sources in the Rolla Quadrangle, and inoculating 1cc samples from these into Dunham's Lactose tubes and thereby getting lactose gas production checks on the field samples. II. Confirmatory tests. This consisted in the isolation of lactose fermenters on Eosin-Methylene Blue Agar and checking of the cultures back through the lactose and then through dulcitel and saccharose so as to complete Jackson's Classification. 106 cultures were classified in this manner. "An examination of the literature shows that extensive studies have been made of the solubilities of inorganic salts in aqueous, normal alcohols, but that little has been done in determining the solubilities in anhydrous alcohols. Northing was found of a systematic study of the solubilities of NaCl, KCl, NaN0₃ and KNO₃ in the lower alcohols over a fairly wide range of temperature. The author has made a study of the solubilities of the above mentioned salts in lower anhydrous normal alcohols at the temperatures 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 40°C"--Introduction, page 1.

"One of the most striking observations one makes in connection with the study of the conductivities of alcoholic solutions is their great similiarity [sic] to those of aqueous solutions with the exception that the values of the concentrations are very much smaller. The differences are rather of degree than of kind. Howe, Foley and Winlock, under the auspices of the National Research Council, the results of which were published under the title of - "Influence of Temperature, Time and Rate of Cooling on Physical Properties of Carbon Steel," by the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, February, 1923. These observations may appear as simple tests, but they make possible a new way to measure the capacity and determine the rate of learning by the animal mind. Soon after the atomic theory was established, it was found that the plant uses as sources of food not only the air and water, but also different constituents of the soil, dissolved in the soil moisture—the mineral nutrients. An integral equation method is used to develop formulas for the alternating-current resistance and inductance of a system of parallel "go and return" circuits. It is shown how these formulas may be applied to single-layer coils. The formulas are applied to several coils in which the "skin effect" is quite pronounced. These coils are measured at several frequencies and the results compared with the computed values. The methods of measurements are explained and a discussion is given pertaining to the distribution of the effective resistance in a coil. Potter, in a series of experiments, comes to the conclusion that if a repressing effect occurs on B. typhosus because of the acidity of milk due to souring, it is so small as to be negligible and as a consequence such acidity cannot be depended upon to eliminate the organism. The leaves used for the study of the tissues were those of the Oleander, Ficus, Ivy, Cyperus and the Aristolochia. Portions of the leaves used were cut into rectangular pieces, about one centimeter long and one half centimeter wide, each piece including a portion of a large vein and its subsidiary veinlets. The material was placed into chrome acetic acid solution. After twenty four hours it was a shed in running water for twelve hours and then dehydrated by means of alcohol, and was then imbedded in paraffin. One needs but to review the history of the irrigated projects of the West to see clearly the importance of drainage. Since the passing of the Reclamation Act in 1902, the construction of drainage work by the United States Reclamation Service on seventeen projects located in thirteen western states represents about 12 percent of the expenditures from the Reclamation Fund. The portion for drainage has been spent during the last few years. This work has required an annual expenditure of about $1,000,000 or a total of $8,000,000 to July, 1922⁽¹⁾.
