Perhaps one of the most puzzling of all dystrophies of the teeth is the macroscopical malformation called "Mottled Enamel".

This peculiarity is characterized by white, brown, and corn-colored opaque areas of enamel surrounded by apparently normal enamel. Upon examination, this enamel presents a smooth surface, though at times it may be slightly pitted. Nevertheless, the surface remains highly polished. If this surface is broken up with a bur, it is found to be of a chalky granular consistency, the whitish material at times containing the yellowish pigment which may occupy the entire thickness of the enamel. Jacob Thompson moved from North Carolina to northern Mississippi in the mid-1830's where he became a wealthy attorney, landowner and slaveholder. He served as a Mississippi congressman for twelve years, served as President Buchanan's Secretary of the Interior, resigned in January 1861 to serve in the Confederate military, and was appointed by Jefferson Davis to supervise covert activities based out of Canada. Thompson contributed a great deal to Oxford and to the establishment of the new university there. It is based upon the results of question­naires sent to one hundred eighty-eight high schools of sec­ond and their class cities of Kansas. The questionnaires were returned from ninety- seven schools; however, a few of them were incomplete or inaccurate and could not be used. This is considered a fair sampling, both numerically and geographically, of the five hundred seventy-one four-year high schools of Kansas.

The history of a pregnancy diagnosis is an old one. In the report of Dr. S. Ashheim is a note which bears this out. The women of ancient Egypt used a rather crude method. Whether it was an efficient test the records do not state. Considering the fact that pregnancy and germination and growth are correlative, these women of the Nile probably were not so far wrong theoretically, whatever the practical results may have been. Their method was to put barley and wheat grains in a pot. These grains were wettened with urine from a woman who thought herself pregnant.
