In arranging this thesis an attempt has been made to show that by virtue of its embryology, anatomy and histology, the spleen is the better enabled to carry out its alleged functions. The discussion here presented is confined to a story of the functions of the mammalian spleen alone. The similarities in the reactions of the spleen in the various mammalia is quite evident. Experimentation and observations were carried out on the lower mammalia while only the reactions of the splenectomized humans could be observed.

The object of this thesis is to show the process of adjustment which the Mexican faces when he leaves his less competitive physical and social environment in Mexico and lives in a typical steel city of the Northern section of the United States. Location and area. The territory covered in this report is a roughly rectangular area of about fifty square miles. It is situated partly in Marlboro and partly in Brattleboro township, in Windham county, southeastern Vermont. It runs from 42° 50' to 42° 55' north latitude and from 72° 37' to 72° 47' west longitude. Geologically the region is a part of the Green Mountains while physiographically the area is in the New England Upland section.
