The main purpose of this study was t o determine if the pupils i n grades three through six of the Horace Mann Training School, Pittsburg, Kansas were achieving in proportion to their ability.

In order to determine this the intelligence and achievement of each of the pupils was measured. The accomplishment quotients were computed from the results obtained from these two measurements.

In measuring the intelligence of the group the Otis Group Intelligence Scale was used. In grade 3B this scale was supplemented by the Stanford Revision of the Binet-Simon Intelligence Scale.

For several years very serious attempts to discover causes and remedies for the rather high mortality rate in Freshman English here at Prairie View have been made. Chief among the methods used in the analysis of these failures was the administering of various standardized tests to the students. The results of these tests were always carefully studied and have repeatedly led us to believe that, in a large measure, the responsibility for failures in the Freshman class may be attributed to the student's High School training.

A fairly large portion of the extensive land areas, once considered as worthless has proved to be valuable by the introduction of proper drainage systems. Land areas, in which drainage in its simpler forms has proved inadequate, could perhaps be made valuable were it possible to develop an inexpensive yet effective form of drainage.

Alfalfa has a wide range of adaptability as a forage plant, but the areas in which it will produce seed successfully are extremely limited. These sections are confined almost exclusively to the arid or semi-arid regions of the world. In all other areas it is primarily a question of seasonal fitness. The extreme localization may be further emphasized by the fact that within the highest producing counties there are appreciable areas of land not suitable for seed production.

In 1927 an experimental farm was established in Carbon County, Utah. The farm is on a new irrigation tract south of the Price River and about four miles south of Price. The agricultural problems of the Carbon County Experimental Farm and the locality which it serves are distinctly different from those of most of the farming sections in Utah. The soil of this region is of a sandy, silty nature apparently with deflocculated colloids which make it somewhat difficult to manage.
