Political Ideas Of Theodore Roosevelt, Frederick A. Muth Jun 1933

Political Ideas Of Theodore Roosevelt, Frederick A. Muth

Bachelors’ Theses

In developing a topic, such as this, on the political ideas of a leader of a nation, one is confronted with a great field of details. Every great political leader is faced with so many problems, many of which are of minor importance, that it would be impossible to do justice to all of them. Therefore, in writing this thesis it is my earnest endeavor to limit myself to the fundamental political ideas of the great president. In treating these fundamental ideas, we must ever be mindful of the fact that he was a staunch Republican leading his party to …

Ice Hockey, Arthur Peterson Jun 1933

Ice Hockey, Arthur Peterson

Bachelors’ Theses

Because of the drastic rule changes in ice hockey during the last few years all established systems of offense and defense must be radically changed or abolished. Besides adding more speed and scoring to the fame the rule changes have brought about a standardization of the game, causing the amateur and professional interpretation of rules to mean about the same. The usual official rules of any game are far from a description of the game, and the most descriptive literature on the subject is lacking in the definiteness of the rules. The present thesis aims to combine these two elements, …

Virgil's Gods And Their Worship, Mary Austin Schmidt Jun 1933

Virgil's Gods And Their Worship, Mary Austin Schmidt

Bachelors’ Theses

It was a rough and primitive, but genuine religious sense which had possession of the Roman mind and guided it in the later development of religious and philosophical thought. And. that primarily in 'three ways: first, the Roman, even in the most skeptical days, never quite lost the sense of spiritual presence which is the essential of a religious consciousness, and later on, when Rome recreated her religion out of philosophy, this sense becomes prominent again; secondly, there is the conviction that religion must permeate all the little things of daily life; and thirdly, in spite of all the formalities …

Foreign News, Thomas J. Bailey Jun 1933

Foreign News, Thomas J. Bailey

Bachelors’ Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to study he trans of international news and the various problems connected with sending news from one country to other nations, stressing the effect of bias and propaganda. In the latter regard one's scope is necessarily limited. Underhanded methods in any undertaking are secretive, and in the in stance of bias an propaganda in their relation to news one must lament the fact that there is not more authoritative information, and less conjecture, on the subject.

Relation Of Recreation, Spare Time And Playgrounds To Juvenile Delinquency, Leone P. Bartelt Jun 1933

Relation Of Recreation, Spare Time And Playgrounds To Juvenile Delinquency, Leone P. Bartelt

Bachelors’ Theses

It is the feeling of the writer that the cultivation of healthful play is one of the first social duties. It can be gathered from statistics that juvenile delinquency in our , large cities increases in direct ratio with the distance of the playground and that playgrounds keep children out of juvenile courts. Juvenile delinquency is but an expression of misdirected play and when this is properly directed, prevents delinquency. After a child had fallen into crime, it is play that is most useful in recovering him. The writer has brought together data to support these statements.

It is often …

A Comparison Of Learning By Trial And Error With Learning By Observation And Insight And Its Bearing Upon The Gestalt Theory, Edna Lucile Vehlow Jun 1933

A Comparison Of Learning By Trial And Error With Learning By Observation And Insight And Its Bearing Upon The Gestalt Theory, Edna Lucile Vehlow

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Some students of science are drawn to psychology because it offers an almost unlimited field for investigation and research. It has been said that psychology is individualistic and no two systems are alike. This is true only in part as there are certain principles agreed upon by the majority of psychologists, but there are also many on which leaders in this science have different opinions.

As early as 1876 Alexander Bain advanced theories regarding the method by which learning takes place. He asserted that man, in the beginning, has a proneness to make voluntary movements which are originated by stimuli, …

An Evaluation Of The Use Of The Notebook In The Teaching Of College General Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Philip M. Rickabaugh

Student Work

The use of the notebook as an instrument for laboratory instruction in general inorganic chemistry is almost universal. The students of Omaha University's general chemistry laboratory were timed, and we discovered they spent fully one-third of their time writing up the experiments in standard form. A great deal of this writing was copying what was already in their laboratory manual and some of what was in other students' notebooks.

Tennyson's Treatment Of The Character Of Women, Merle Gray Jun 1933

Tennyson's Treatment Of The Character Of Women, Merle Gray

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

No more charming and lovely women occur in poetry, or even in life, than appear in Tennyson's poetry. His portraits of women were among the first of his poems to attract attention, am attention which gave rise to much adverse criticism as well as admiration. His first burst of melody was rather harshly criticized as mere music. But as the poet emerged from this youthful period of exuberant melody, he ennobled his youthful ideal of womanhood, and the women of his poems took on a strength of character which kept pace with his developing moral and dramatic power. He thus …

An Analysis Of Certain Phases Of The Work And Professional Preparation Of The High School Teacher, Victor Fred Guffey Jun 1933

An Analysis Of Certain Phases Of The Work And Professional Preparation Of The High School Teacher, Victor Fred Guffey

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

This study has been prompted by a feeling, on the part of the writer and others, that high-school teachers are obliged to perform a great many teaching and non-teaching activities of a professional nature, while engaged in teaching service, for which inadequate pre-service training has been made. This feeling has been re-enforced by observation on the part of the writer, of high-school teachers at work and practice teachers in training, and by careful introspection when the writer has attempted to put into execution the content of his own professional training. Six phases of the teaching job have been selected for …

Educational Qualifications Of Commercial Teachers In The Four Year Accredited High Schools Of Kansas, Logan C. Guffey Jun 1933

Educational Qualifications Of Commercial Teachers In The Four Year Accredited High Schools Of Kansas, Logan C. Guffey

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The problem grew out of a class in seminar under the direction of the late Doctor Hugh C. Pryor in the summer of 1931 in which a study was made of the preparation and training of teachers in the secondary schools of Kansas. It was the opinion of the group that there was little definitely known about the collegiate training of the high school teachers of the state. Quite frequently members of the class suggested that research work in this field would be a valuable contribution from the standpoint of information concerning the scholastic attainment of the teachers of secondary …

Criteria For The Selection Of High School Plays, Leslie Clark Holcomb Jun 1933

Criteria For The Selection Of High School Plays, Leslie Clark Holcomb

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Two questions are answered in this study. They are: (1) How many plays, suitable for presentation by a high school cast, be selected? (2) Where may plays, suitable for presentation by a high school cast, be found?

The answer to the first question includes methods for the proper selection of high school plays. The answer to the second question includes rather extensive lists of suitable high school plays.

It is the experience of the writer that the average director of plays in high school has little to guide him or her in the selection of suitable plays. Letters on file …
