Religion And The Adolescent Personality, Robert E. Meier May 1947

Religion And The Adolescent Personality, Robert E. Meier

Bachelor of Divinity

In an attempt to gain a clearer picture of adolescent personality, psychologists and psychoanalists, counselors and pastors have concerned themselves very much with this problem. Adolescence is a culmination of many things that have gone before, and its effects will continue in later life. Adolescence is not a life by itself, but a stage in a total life! Therefore, the events and happenings of adolescence cannot be cut off from the total life.

The basis of faith by which, cures are effected lies in the faith healer in whom the patient has confidence, or in one’s own faith in supposed Scriptural promises of healing. The Concepts Of Pistis And Elpis And, Agapee In The Epistle To The Hebrews, Karl L. Barth

Bachelor of Divinity

We shall not attempt to solve the problem of authorship, nor, will the content and purpose of the epistle be treated beyond their relation to pistis, elpis, and agapee. Our problem is to determine: 1. what these words mean in the various passages in which they are used; 2. the role that these concepts play where they are present merely by implication. e. g., "tha abiding city" as part of the hope concept; 3. their relation to one another.

Rome And The First Amendment Of The Federal Constitution, Norbert Walter Meyer May 1947

Rome And The First Amendment Of The Federal Constitution, Norbert Walter Meyer

Bachelor of Divinity

This paper, however, merely intends to sound an alarm. Roman Catholicism, regardless of the impression it might give, is a genuine threat to the religious freedom guaranteed in the Federal Constitution. We shall not attempt to judge the validity of the American form of government. That we take for granted. But our purpose is this: to determine the extent of the liberty guaranteed in the law of the land; to point out apparent agreement and obvious discrepancies between liberty and the Vatican; and to cite the practice of Rome as evidence of her intolerance and the Papacy's authoritarian principles.

The Position Of Present Scholarship With Regard To The Hypothetical Document Designated As Logia Or "Q", Arno E. Krentz

Bachelor of Divinity

One of' the perplexing problems in the field of New Testament Introduction is the relationship of the first three Gospels to each other. A careful reading of these Gospels rcvea1s that they are much alike and seem to have much in common. There are many similar or strikingly similar events in all three. Then, too, there are clearcut differences. The Evangelists who wrote these Gospels tell us nothing concerning how their writings were related to each other. Luke alone says something about how his Gospel came to be written. Apostolic testimony on these three Gospels is something unknown to us.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Teachers are a busy group. Contrary to the belief of many persons who are not in close contact with a teacher, the school day does not end when the children leave the building. No indeed--there are faculty meetings, committee meetings, P.T.A. meetings, educational association meetings and supervisor meetings to mention but a few of the functions every teacher is expected to attend. In the evening there are papers to grade, lessons to prepare, professional books and articles to read, and numerous records of many varieties to keep. Few teachers enjoy the luxury of an eight hour working day. It is …

Since this was true, the question arose …

The Preaching Of George Whitefield During The Great Awakening In America, Eugene Edmond White May 1947

The Preaching Of George Whitefield During The Great Awakening In America, Eugene Edmond White

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

For thirty-four George Whitefield followed the Biblical dictum: “Go ye into the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Traveling by horseback, by schooner, and even by rowboat, he sought converts in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Holland, Bermuda, and colonial America. The out-of-doors was often his chapel; and a mound, tree stump, horse’s back, or hogshead, served as his pulpit. In his itinerating, Whitefield averaged about forty hours of preaching each week and eventually delivered about 18,000 sermons to some ten million auditors. An analysis of Whitefield’s oratory during his entire evangelical career from 1737 to 1770 would make …

The Historical And Grammatical Interpretations Of John Chrysostom Evaualting On The Basis Of His Homilies On Romans, Paul Gerhardt Littmann

Bachelor of Divinity

In view of the fact that the School of Antioch made no little contribution to the history of interpretation and that its hermeneutical principles are relevant to current problems or the Church, a brief study of the historical and grammatical interpretation of John Chrysostom, the most successful representative of the School of Antioch, may be of some value to pastors who wish to preserve the Church from error and to present the Gospel of Christ in all its truth and power. Guiding Principals For The Parish Ministry In Our Syncretistic Age, Gordon E. Schultz

Bachelor of Divinity

It is the purpose of this thesis to consider the principals involved in all contacts with the heterodox churches. In order to include the many diverse contacts which the pastor makes in his ordinary parish ministry, it is necessary to divide these principles into two main groups - the one dealing with underlying causes and problems, the other group dealing with specific and personal contacts. In the last analysis it will be seen that all contacts revolve around the one basic principle of Sola Scriptura - all the other principles being parts of it. Yet in order to become conscious …
