The Relations Between The English And The Scottish Reformations, Carl Napier Jr Jun 1947

The Relations Between The English And The Scottish Reformations, Carl Napier Jr

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of the writer's original investigation was to find out what influences and connections existed between the two Reformations. The purpose of this study is to show that before Henry VIII English efforts at union were almost wholly political. At least there is no mention of religious-political parties. War and conciliation were the diplomatic weapons. After Henry's break with the Pope by the Act of Supremacy in 1534 and to 1707 when the final union of the crowns took place political and religious relations became closely entwined. Henry and his successors, particularly Elizabeth, used religion in fostering the political …

Life History Studies Of The Mouse, Peromyscus Truei Nevadensis, Lowell S. Miller

Theses and Dissertations

Peromyscus truel's a fairly common inhabitant of the upper sonaranlife zone of the Western States. It is an excellent laboratory anlmal with the limitation that captivity must be accompanied by forced activlty, in order to keep the animals within the limits of normal activity. This mouse is polyestrous and breeds from early spring to late fall. Observations have shown pregnancy in late September and in early February. It is the writer's belief that ovulation in the ovary occurs only when copulation has taken lace, because corpora lutea has only been found in pregnant or lactating females. The evidence is scanty …

Thomas Hood : Poet, Social Thinker, Comedian, Ernest W. Mooney Jr Jun 1947

Thomas Hood : Poet, Social Thinker, Comedian, Ernest W. Mooney Jr

Master's Theses

Although Thomas Hood lived an uneventful and somewhat undramatic life, it was not entirely fruitless. His unparalleled misfortune in health and economy was scarcely offset by a felicitous family life; but his poetry--some inane, some mediocre, some excellent--balanced an otherwise pathetic existence. There has been no conscious attempt in this paper to present Thomas as an undiscovered genius. His works and his life have been evaluated for their peculiar merit alone, but a study of those has revealed points hitherto vague and misunderstood as well as forgotten.

As a writer of unmitigated fun, Thomas Hood is hardly excelled. Where he …

Chlorination Of Ditolylethane, John Joseph Hawkins

Bachelors’ Theses

At present, research into suitable dielectric media has led to investigations in the field of organic fluorides. These fluorides must be synthesized and the corresponding chlorides of various organic compounds offer a starting point for the synthesis. Substitution fluorination is to be at tempted in a specially constructed pressure bomb using various catalysts and fluorinating agents with the organic chlorides. Among other organic chlorides chosen to be used in the pres sure bomb, ditolylethane, chlorinated to various degrees, was chosen as one of the trial reagents. Ditolylethane had been received into the department in a crude form with very limited …

All Theses

The Division of Home Economics at Prairie View University, as such, has been in existence since 1918.1 Before that time the courses that are now considered as Home Economics were called Domestic Science, and then the two major areas of instruction were cooking and sewing. In these two areas of subject matter was included instruction on many phases of homemaking that now constitute some of the important courses of the present Home Economics curriculum. For instance, in the earlier days housekeeping instruction was provided for in the cooking classes, while today this is likewise true to some extent, but …

Spot Welding Low Carbon Steel, Leonardo Gutierrez May 1947

Spot Welding Low Carbon Steel, Leonardo Gutierrez

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

This investigation of spot welding on low carbon steel was undertaken to study the quality of welds under different welding conditions. Low carbon steel is one of the most readily weldable materials of all metals and alloys used in resistance welding processes. Its metallurgical structure is such that fusion between separate pieces may be accomplished in a broad range of temperatures, so that precise control of welding conditions is not necessary for producing a spot weld. Because of this ease in securing a weld, more and more of the many low carbon steel products are being spot welded. This makes …

English Language and Literature ETDs

The prose and poetry of Haniel Long, a contemporary writer now living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will be the subject of this thesis, which will consider the sources of Long's work, its nature, its place in American literature, and the failure of critics to recognize its importance and significance in contemporary literature. Biographical details will be related to the poet's work, in an effort to bring into clear focus his working methods, his technical resources, and his literary ideas. Variations Of Two Culture Traits In The Plains Area, Harold Lindsay Amoss May 1947

Variations Of Two Culture Traits In The Plains Area, Harold Lindsay Amoss

Anthropology ETDs

There are two problems involved in the study of processes of culture change: one, what are the determinants of change, and do they apply universally; two, the utilization of these laws in determining culture history. No attempt will be made in this paper to reconstruct a history of the cultural items, not because there is no historical interest, but because the problem is pointed towards the analysis of some culture processes. The concern here is limited to the study of forms, not functions though the latter may have some significant bearing on these problems. The ultimate aim of anthropology is …

The Law And Practice Of Occupational Licensing Boards In New Mexico, Wilfred Ernest Torres May 1947

The Law And Practice Of Occupational Licensing Boards In New Mexico, Wilfred Ernest Torres

Political Science ETDs

The term "license" is variously used in law and government with different shades of meaning. Many excise taxes are levied in connection with the licensing of some trade, occupation, and use or possession of property; but if they are an important source of general revenue rather than simply a means of defraying the expense of administering the particular licensing regulation, they are more usually referred to as license taxes. A license in the sense of a permit does not necessarily involve the idea of a fee and may be issued gratuitously.

These and other aspects that are pertinent to the …

San Jose, 1946: A Study In Urbanization, Frank C. Moore May 1947

San Jose, 1946: A Study In Urbanization, Frank C. Moore

Sociology ETDs

For many years New Mexico has been classified as a rural state. Although New Mexico is still predominately rural, a trend toward urbanization has appeared in recent years.

The study is concerned with this change of San José, [New Mexico] from a rural to urban community. Previous literature has postulated the hypothesis that urbanization produces a change in the total structure, or configuration, or a community's way of life. This change, in turn, produces profound and far-reaching effects upon the individual and his way of life. The purpose of this study, therefore, is (1) to show the effects of urbanization …
