Use Of The Depth Interview In Examining Attitudes Of Delinquent Boys: An Exploratory Study, Alice Allen

Dissertations and Theses

This exploratory study designed to disclose new directions for further research and practice in the field of juvenile delinquency.

By exploring through limited depth interview the attitudinal areas of authority, fear, aspirations for the future, obstacles to be overcome, capabilities, societal ideals and therapy the project attempted: (1) to elicit, from adjudged juvenile delinquents, information different from that usually sought by public societal agencies and (2) to evaluate the depth interview as a means of eliciting such material.

Specific criteria were established for choosing fifteen interviewees, selected from three methods of dealing with juvenile delinquency: probation, institutionalization and parole. Depth …

Characterization Of Staphylococcus Species Isolated From Raw Milk With Special Reference To The Enterotoxigenic Coagulase-Positive Types, Adnan M. Ammouri

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Numerous reports from many parts of the world have described the occurrence of outbreaks of staphylococcus food poisoning. Some studies have incriminated raw milk as a reservoir of the staphylococcus organisms as the vehicle of transmission. Recently Cheddar cheese has been implicated as the contaminating agent in food poisoning outbreaks traced to dairy products. The frequency of outbreaks of staphylococcus food poisoning has stimulated interest in the characterization of members of the staphylococcus genus. The strains particularly important are those capable of production an enterotoxin. In order to determine the strains of staphylococcus organisms isolated from raw milk which are …

Soil Particle Size By Time-Weight Accumulation Of Sedimentation, Yasin E. Ahmad Jan 1964

Soil Particle Size By Time-Weight Accumulation Of Sedimentation, Yasin E. Ahmad

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The principal reason for measuring particle size distribution is for the utilization of the relationships that exist between particle size and soil performance characteristics. The most interesting property of finely divided substance is the tremendous surface-to-weight ratio which they possess. The surface-to-weight ratio varies inversely with the square of the particle diameter. Thus, properties of particles which depend upon the amount of exposed surface are generally influenced by the size of the particles. Also, grain size distribution is very useful in the field of soils engineering. Particles size are measured by several methods and every method is not suitable for …

Anatomy And Bud Formation Of Subterranean Parts Of Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia Esula L.), Charles A. Beasley Jan 1964

Anatomy And Bud Formation Of Subterranean Parts Of Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia Esula L.), Charles A. Beasley

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In order to obtain plant material for in vitro bud formation studies, many preliminary experiments involving germination and seedling growth were conducted. Anatomical studies were conducted to establish the identity of underground parts. Cyclic temperature changes from 20 0C and 30 0C (12 hours each) provided 97, 80, and 21% germination for mottled, grey, and purple seeds in 12 days. Mottled seeds require only 2 cycles of alternating temperature to approach or equal the germination percent obtained with 10 additional temperature alternations. Two cyclic temperature changes provided that one-fourth of the maximum germination percent of grey and purple seeds obtained …

The molten spray was dispensed from fixed and mobile dispensing units with the mobile unit being superior. The powder was also spread from a mobile unit. The average monolayer coverage during a 13-day period using …

A Study Of The Effectiveness Of Shrink-Resistant And Antibacterial Finishes On Wool Blankets After Repeated Launderings, Coila M. Janecek Jan 1964

A Study Of The Effectiveness Of Shrink-Resistant And Antibacterial Finishes On Wool Blankets After Repeated Launderings, Coila M. Janecek

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Wool blankets are important to the economy of the state since South Dakota is one of ten leading states in wool production. Wool’s greatest competitor, synthetic fibers, has increased in production from 85.2 million pounds in 1949 to 470.5 million pounds in 1958, an increase of approximately 550 percent. This competition by synthetic fibers has resulted in the wool industry undertaking intensive re-search to develop finishes that would improve the quality of wool products. Results of South Dakota and Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Stations research indicated that wool blankets ranked highest of all fiber types in warmth qualities, however, shrinkage in …

A Study Of The Basic Strength Components Of Asphaltic Concrete, Jalal Sarsam Jan 1964

A Study Of The Basic Strength Components Of Asphaltic Concrete, Jalal Sarsam

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Generally speaking, pavements may be divided into two broad classifications, i.e. rigid and flexible. The term rigid pavement is applied only to wearing surfaces constructed of Portland Cement Concrete. The term flexible is used to denote the tendency of all layers to conform to the same shape under traffic. The basic concept in the design of flexible pavement is that a load applied to the surface is distributed over successively larger areas, as it is transmitted through each lower layer or course, until it has become so diminished in its intensity as to be less than the strength of the …

Rate Of Advance And Infiltration On Furrow Irrigated Blencoe Soils In Southeastern South Dakota, Richard C. Pedersen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The irrigation of the earth has been practiced since the earliest history of man. Historically, civilization has followed the development of irrigation. The antiquity of irrigation is well documented throughout the written history of mankind. The bible talks of irrigation in the book of Genesis where the laws of Hammurabi indicates to the people that they had to depend on irrigation for existence. Irrigation canals supposed to have been built before 2000 B.C. are still delivering water in the valleys of the Nile. The success of early kings in China was measured by their wisdom and progress in water-control activities. …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Of the three billion people who presently inhabit the world, about one-third live under communist rule, one-sixth constitute the population of free industrial lands, and the rest, which add up to one-half of the whole live in the poorer, less developed countries, most of which politically are considered to be “uncommitted.” These uncommitted countries, which like to be referred to as the “non-aligned group” and hope to develop one day into a third force, for all the purpose of international politics could be considered as “contested” areas. In one way or another they are trying to achieve at least a …
