Intimate Partner Violence Screening And Awareness Pilot Project, Eleasha P. Partner May 2026

Intimate Partner Violence Screening And Awareness Pilot Project, Eleasha P. Partner

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects

Background: In the United States, one in four women experiences intimate partner violence (IPV), highlighting the critical need for improved screening and intervention within the healthcare system. Routine visits in healthcare settings present a significant opportunity for healthcare providers to identify and address IPV.

Local Problem: A primary care family practice clinic in San Leandro, California , currently lacks a standardized evidence-based screening toolkit for IPV.  The absence of such a toolkit creates a gap in practice, leaving patients at risk of undiagnosed IPV and its related consequences.  To address this gap, there is a pressing need for the development …

Collecting Meaning: A Study On Collecting As An Artmaking Practice, Johanna Young May 2026

Collecting Meaning: A Study On Collecting As An Artmaking Practice, Johanna Young

Masters Theses

This thesis explores how we practice creativity and construct narratives through the act of building collections. It examines collecting as both an innate creative impulse and a learned process. Using arts-based research and narrative inquiry, the study considers how our collecting habits reflect the ways we process information and express personal artistic interests. Drawing from personal experiences, this thesis mines the idea of the subconscious through the artistic lens of collecting.

Auxiliary Damage, Aiyi Cheng May 2026

Auxiliary Damage, Aiyi Cheng

Masters Theses

AuxiliarY DamagE asks what happens to pain when it is moved outside the body and given material form. Pain is not treated here as an image to be represented, but as something processed through repetition, pressure, exposure, and care. It is handled. Washed. Arranged. Pulled out. Swallowed back in.

Hair became the material that allowed this question to stay unstable. While attached to the body, it is intimate and ordinary. Once detached, it becomes residue, evidence, discomfort, value, and loss. In the studio, I washed collected hair, untangled it, threaded it through metal, placed it near flame, held it in …

The Found Stone Game, Magnolia Moskun May 2026

The Found Stone Game, Magnolia Moskun

Masters Theses

This is not about masonry. This is stone architecture in constant motion.

I work with found stone in states of precarity, extracting discrete and sometimes surprising functions from each individual rock. Construction relies on physical forces while avoiding standardized building materials and methods.

Uncertainty is inherent. The builder is a perpetual novice, open to unexpected outcomes. Working with irregular stone takes incredible precision: it can’t be entirely planned or designed. The process is an inquiry into the deep physical understanding that can only be gained through hands-on work. This architecture rebels against the apathy in contemporary practice by deviating from …

Landscape Repositories: Mapping Post-Mining Narratives In Asbestos, Qc Val-Des-Sources, Qc, Rasha Lama May 2026

Landscape Repositories: Mapping Post-Mining Narratives In Asbestos, Qc Val-Des-Sources, Qc, Rasha Lama

Masters Theses

Landscape Repositories: Mapping Social Narratives in Asbestos, QC Val-des-Sources, QC proposes the ‘landscape repository’ as a tool for landscape literacy and cultural legitimacy that integrates histories, geographies, and social narratives to inform grounded and place-based post-mining futures.

Val-des-Sources, Québec (formerly Asbestos, QC) is a place whose extraction legacies and material histories are deeply interwoven into its contemporary economy and cultural landscape. The centre of town is the Jeffrey Mine, once the world’s largest open-pit asbestos mine that is deep enough to hide the Eiffel Tower entirely. Ceased in 2012, the 130-year-old Jeffrey Mine and sixty-one other Québec asbestos sites once …

Rooted Retreat: Integrating Community Land Stewardship And Gardening Into Managed Retreat For Generational Connection To Place, Brooke E. Dutton May 2026

Rooted Retreat: Integrating Community Land Stewardship And Gardening Into Managed Retreat For Generational Connection To Place, Brooke E. Dutton

Masters Theses

Retreat from vulnerable floodplain landscapes is inevitable, and will only become a more pressing issue as climate change exacerbates flood risk. Unfortunately, it is a process that results in displacement of a community; people are uprooted from a place, and from each other. Post-retreat landscapes are largely converted to conservation land, re-naturalized floodplains, abandoned, ghostly neighborhoods, or public parks.

But this thesis wants to challenge the status quo retreat process, and consider the possibility of retreat not being destructive, but generative. Retreat can instead be an opportunity for reconciliation, stewardship, cooperation, and community building.

How can gardening and long-term community …

Numb., Anna Rapson May 2026

Numb., Anna Rapson

Masters Theses

Social media platforms, from their conception, posed a break in the lived experience of the average human being’s day to day routines. Although access to information has always been shaped by portals into other lived realities—through photojournalism, print legacy media, news broadcasts both on radio and television—social media has posited a novel phenomenological architecture where borders between embodied reality and perception of lived experience are simultaneously blurred and reinforced. This morphed duality of consciousness positions the body and mind in tension, deconstructing pre-social media conceptions of the ontology of lived experience. In a digital world shaped by limitless input by …

For Now, Eriq Wities May 2026

For Now, Eriq Wities

Masters Theses

…For Now follows a body of furniture made as the culmination of four years of intense transition. Through personal narratives, I reflect back on my work, investigating and recognizing the value of impermanence in relation to hand handcrafted heirloom furniture, using beautiful, functional, livable pieces as tools able to register time rather than resist it.

This thesis considers what it means to make heirloom objects for lives that are never fixed. The pieces are meant to be touched, used, altered, and continued. They are finished only for now.

Foveate, Dahlia Aggarwal May 2026

Foveate, Dahlia Aggarwal

Masters Theses

This thesis investigates how textiles can unsettle visual assumptions, encouraging a perceptual shift. Through weaving, upholstery, and spatial installation, the work stages a tension between what a surface appears to be and how it is encountered by the body. Through woven pattern, tactile texture, and trompe l’oeil textile surfaces, perception is something negotiated rather than fixed: the eye anticipates one reality while the hand discovers another.

Drawing on a range of sensations gathered from observing landscape formations and textures, it translates enduring scale and material qualities into an interior landscape of woven surfaces and textile-based furniture. Rather than serving as …

Chair For Workplace Morale, Alicia Lee May 2026

Chair For Workplace Morale, Alicia Lee

Masters Theses

Is absurdity frivolous? In contemporary workplace contexts, office workers– from new hires to mid-level managers– are required to maintain composure, attention and productivity amid bureaucratic instability, distractions, and disruptions. This expectation manifests in the form of an office chair.  Since its inception, chairs have represented and disseminated power. Within bureaucratic systems, chairs discipline the body physically and metaphorically, creating the conditions for workers to optimize workflow by remaining comfortable and still for long periods of time.

CHAIR FOR WORKPLACE MORALE disturbs the act of sitting, producing a bounded and altered perceptual environment. Operating within an institutional logic in which humor …

Behind The Curtain: A Strategic Brand Campaign For Rhode, Carolyn Franco May 2026

Behind The Curtain: A Strategic Brand Campaign For Rhode, Carolyn Franco

Student Theses and Dissertations

This capstone project develops a strategic public relations campaign that aims to improve Rhode’s existing brand communication strategy. While Rhode has been highly successful since its launch, selling out its initial product line in minutes and building a waitlist of over 700,000 customers, much of this success has been because of its strong visual branding, organic influencer engagement, and founder-led visibility. However, as the brand continues to grow, expand its skincare line, and introduce new beauty products, its current communication strategy presents several limitations that may impact long-term credibility and consumer trust.

One key challenge is Rhode’s reliance on aesthetically …

The Home And The Self: On Perceptions Of Feminine Virtue, Rebecca Stevens May 2026

The Home And The Self: On Perceptions Of Feminine Virtue, Rebecca Stevens

Masters Theses

Reflecting on my own feelings and experiences with domesticity and on the larger patterns of socialization they reveal, I use decoration and domestic objects to explore my discomfort with the stereotypes of feminine virtue that I grew up around in the American South. These specific ideas of socialized feminine virtue center around domestic service and a focus on appearance. Working primarily in porcelain with the addition of textiles, I embrace materials, styles, and methods of making that are associated with women and girls. Through hand-crafted tableware, dolls, and decorative patterns I critique gendered forms of socialization while questioning historical and …

'O Una Yola Al Revé': Comentario Social Y Cuento Popular, Empoderamiento Personal Y Feminismo, Identidad Cultural Y Negritud En La Música Contemporánea De La República Dominicana, Lissa Cabrera-Song

Dissertations and Theses

Finding A Way Out Of The Filter Bubble: The Confusion Of A Heavy Social Media User, Longwen Miao May 2026

Finding A Way Out Of The Filter Bubble: The Confusion Of A Heavy Social Media User, Longwen Miao

Masters Theses

This thesis studies how algorithmic recommendation systems reshape visual perception, aesthetic judgment, and the construction of selfhood within contemporary digital culture.

Everything begins with the experience of repeatedly encountering algorithmically recommended content on everyday digital platforms. On these platforms, images, sounds, and social interactions are continuously selected, repeated, and reorganized by predictive systems, forming an environment in which perception is constantly structured and adjusted.

From this observation, the research raises two central questions: how do algorithmic recommendation systems reshape visual perception, aesthetic judgment, and self-recognition, and how might these systems be intervened in or made perceptible through artistic practice? Within …

Computational-Experimental Synergy As A Predictive And Interpretive Tool Through Metal-Organic Framework Investigations, Cristian Sayers May 2026

Computational-Experimental Synergy As A Predictive And Interpretive Tool Through Metal-Organic Framework Investigations, Cristian Sayers

Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

In the search for tunable materials platforms capable of addressing both clean energy conversion and viable post-combustion carbon capture, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as a uniquely versatile class of porous solids offering high specific surface area, structural tunability, and chemically addressable metal nodes and organic linkers. Realizing their potential requires understanding behavior that spans atomic-scale electronic structure and bulk-scale property response, a regime in which neither computation nor experiment alone is sufficient. This work attempts to develop a tighter integration between density functional theory (DFT) and laboratory investigation, treating the two modalities as mutually informing probes of the same …

Identifying Modulators Of Stable Klrg1+Il7ra+ Memory Cd8+ T-Cells, Christina Ocampo Valdez

Honors Projects

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease targeting the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. The discovery of insulin revolutionized the treatment of T1D, but current research into T1D has progressed from disease management to possible prevention or delayed onset of diagnosis. One drug currently in use is teplizumab, an anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody that has been shown to delay the onset of T1D in some, but not all, at-risk individuals. High levels of a subset of peripheral blood CD8+ T cells we call SKIMs (stable KLRG1+ IL7Ra+ memory cells), which include MAIT (mucosal-associated invariant T) cells, have been associated …

Censorship, Information Networks, And The Courrier Extraordinaire During The French Revolution, Kent Friel May 2026

Censorship, Information Networks, And The Courrier Extraordinaire During The French Revolution, Kent Friel

History Undergraduate Senior Theses

In 1790, as France neared a year of revolution, a former book dealer named Joseph Duplain announced plans for a new venture: a newspaper called the Courrier extraordinaire that would get the news from Paris to major provincial cities hours or even days earlier than other newspapers by using its own express information network. This thesis argues that the Courrier extraordinaire provides a new view of how information moved during the French Revolution. Not only has the specific story of the Courrier extraordinaire never been told at length before, but the intense rivalry among newspaper publishers to physically get the …

Always More To Explore: Play And Resilience In Community-Based Artmaking, Charlotte T. Faubert May 2026

Always More To Explore: Play And Resilience In Community-Based Artmaking, Charlotte T. Faubert

Masters Theses

The following research investigates the ways in which material exploration in community-based artmaking spaces fosters learning through play and creative resilience. Using teacher-based action research, three visual arts workshops were designed, conducted, and reviewed in order to understand how community-based teaching strategies that center material exploration impact these two components of social emotional growth in elementary-aged art students. The conclusions drawn from this research indicate that material exploration, learning through play, and creative resilience are elements within community-based artmaking that form an ecosystem of learning, with all three phenomena feeding off of one another in a non-linear capacity. Additionally, it …

This study explores how elementary art teachers in the United States and China perceive and use collaborative artmaking with their students. Driven by my personal journey as a Chinese student and art educator now studying in the U.S., this research asks: How do teachers in these two countries compare in their views of collaborative artmaking, including its social-emotional outcomes, benefits, and challenges. I conducted semi structured interviews with three elementary art teachers: two from China (one veteran, one early-career) and one from the U.S. with experience in both rural and urban schools. Findings show that teachers in both contexts value …

Studio Archeology: Uncovering Pedagogical Potential In Artist Spaces, Julia I. Ambros May 2026

Studio Archeology: Uncovering Pedagogical Potential In Artist Spaces, Julia I. Ambros

Masters Theses

This thesis investigates artist studios and their potential for pedagogical application, focusing specifically on grounding the abstract act of making an inspiring studio in the identification and analysis of tangible creative methods used by artists in their studios. This project combines the thinking of four authors–Eisner (1979); Sullivan (2005); Sjöholm (2014); and Bennett (2010)–into a theoretical framework that characterizes the studio space as an art practice research site that reflects the artist’s values, provides readable evidence of thinking and making processes, and influences the future trajectory of one’s art-making. Treating the studio space like an archaeological dig, this project conducted …

Cartooning From Life: A Graphic Guide To Using Non-Fiction Comics In Education, Maxwell Zawatsky May 2026

Cartooning From Life: A Graphic Guide To Using Non-Fiction Comics In Education, Maxwell Zawatsky

The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing faculty development process. Does the implementation of a structured orientation and development process improve participant satisfaction, perceived preparedness to teach, and teaching efficacy? A mixed-method, nonexperimental design with purposeful sampling was …

Improving Competency Of Care At End Of Life, Linda J. Perez May 2026

Improving Competency Of Care At End Of Life, Linda J. Perez

Group: Northern Arizona University School of Nursing, DNP Doctoral Papers

Providing competent care at the end of life (EOL) has been recognized as an essential skill for nursing students transitioning to practice (NSTP). EOL has been defined as the phase in which patients enter the terminal stage of a chronic illness or experience an unexpected health decline that ultimately results in death (Hughes et al., 2024). Due to limited EOL education provided in nursing schools, many NSTP have experienced significant anxiety, which has contributed to decreased self-efficacy and reduced competency when caring for patients at EOL (Jablonski et al., 2020). EOL discussions are often not had or minimally discussed due …

Confidence And Self-Efficacy Improvement In Medication Administration Using Simulation-Based Strategies With Nursing Students, Nilda Lopez May 2026

Confidence And Self-Efficacy Improvement In Medication Administration Using Simulation-Based Strategies With Nursing Students, Nilda Lopez

Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing

This project evaluated the effectiveness of simulation-based learning in improving nursing students’ confidence and self-efficacy in medication administration.

Bandura’s self-efficacy theory guided the design, emphasizing mastery experiences, feedback, and emotional regulation (Bandura, 1977). Lewin’s change theory provided a structured framework for implementation and sustainability through unfreezing, change, and refreezing processes, supporting both student learning and faculty adoption.

This quality improvement project was conducted over one semester with practical nursing students. Structured simulations included standardized prebriefing, guided scenarios, and debriefing. Faculty observations and student reflections were used to assess changes in confidence, self-efficacy, and clinical judgment.
