Forecasting Interborough Express Ridership Using Network-Based Station Typologies And Direct Demand Models, Fomba Kassoh May 2026

Forecasting Interborough Express Ridership Using Network-Based Station Typologies And Direct Demand Models, Fomba Kassoh

Student Theses

Forecasting ridership for new transit infrastructure is difficult in the absence of observed outcomes, particularly under domain shift between an existing system and a proposed corridor. This study develops a station-level direct demand modeling (DDM) framework to forecast average weekday ridership for the proposed Interborough Express (IBX) in New York City — a 14-mile circumferential rapid transit corridor connecting Brooklyn and Queens. The approach pairs unsupervised learning with supervised estimation in a common feature space defined by transit service, accessibility, and built-environment characteristics. K-means clustering identifies latent station typologies (node–place regimes), and IBX stations are projected into this topology to …

Student Theses and Dissertations

Access to justice remains a central challenge across legal systems, particularly for immigrants and refugees, Indigenous communities, and survivors of domestic violence. While legal aid organizations play a critical role in bridging this gap, their effectiveness increasingly depends on how clearly and compassionately they communicate legal information online to their target audience. This thesis conducts a comparative content analysis of nine nonprofit legal aid organizations in the United States, Canada, and Australia, three countries united by a common law tradition but divided by the communication barriers their communities face, examining 180 social media posts and nine websites through the lens …

The Importance Of Career And Retirement Services For Student Athletes, Vincent R. Giuliano May 2026

The Importance Of Career And Retirement Services For Student Athletes, Vincent R. Giuliano

Masters Projects

There are hundreds of thousands of collegiate student-athletes competing in organized sports in the NCAA. Research shows the different resources that are available to them during their time competing, as well as how sports can open different opportunities for them during their competitive years. However, once this is over, an individual may realize they spent their time becoming an athlete and not enough time on their holistic well-being and professional development due to time constraints, identity engulfment, etc. While institutions do well in nurturing students during their competitive years, they lack in considering the retirement of these student-athletes. This project's …

The Disconnect Of Moral Accountability: Freedom, Equality, And The Limits Of Punishment, Celine Shiah Choi May 2026

The Disconnect Of Moral Accountability: Freedom, Equality, And The Limits Of Punishment, Celine Shiah Choi

Philosophy Senior Theses

This thesis examines the justificatory foundations of moral accountability as a social practice and the profound disconnect between our ordinary intuitions about justice, the moral attitudes we hold toward one another, and the governing institutional practices of punishment. Drawing on Stephen Darwall's second-person standpoint and P.F. Strawson's account of reactive attitudes, the paper argues that legitimate accountability presupposes two necessary conditions, freedom and equality, understood as the shared capacity of rational agents to recognize moral demands and stand in reciprocal normative relation with one another. Both conditions, however, prove deeply fragile in practice: legal institutions invoke the language of rational …

Social, Economic, And Environmental Sustainability Of Small-Scale Hydroponic Farms, Alexa Genevieve Kaminski May 2026

Social, Economic, And Environmental Sustainability Of Small-Scale Hydroponic Farms, Alexa Genevieve Kaminski

Theses

Controlled environmental agriculture (CEA) is well-positioned to contribute to a more sustainable food system. It has the potential to offset some of the negative impacts of conventional agriculture through its ability to optimize the crop growing environment, locate production closer to population centers, and take advantage of non-arable land. The focus of this dissertation is one type of CEA: the hydroponic container farm (HCF). The HCF grows crops using only water and fertilizer inside a 40-foot shipping container that can be located anywhere in the world. Manufacturers are optimistic about this farm’s abilities, but little research exists that investigates the …

Same-Subject Induction Experiences For Elementary Music Teachers: Teacher Efficacy Beliefs, Experiences Of Isolation, And Job Satisfaction, Wendy Tams Hickman May 2026

Same-Subject Induction Experiences For Elementary Music Teachers: Teacher Efficacy Beliefs, Experiences Of Isolation, And Job Satisfaction, Wendy Tams Hickman

Theses and Dissertations

This survey study seeks to explain the relationships between elementary music teachers' experiences with same-subject induction support and those teachers' feelings of teacher efficacy, experiences of isolation, and job satisfaction. Independent variables came from latent class groupings of same-subject induction support for beginning elementary music teachers. Teacher background variables were also included as controls. Three- and four-step regression models helped provide understanding about how the relative set of predictors--teacher background variables, isolation levels, induction experiences, and interaction terms--predicted the three outcomes. Initial regression analyses showed that the number of years of teaching elementary music predicted efficacy and levels of isolation …

Designing Truthful Mechanisms: A Study Of Voting And Matching Rules, Abhigyan Bose May 2026

Designing Truthful Mechanisms: A Study Of Voting And Matching Rules, Abhigyan Bose

Doctoral Theses

Mechanisms are formal procedures used in game theory and economics to aggregate individual preferences into collective outcomes in strategic settings with private information. A truthful or strategy-proof mechanism ensures that agents are best off reporting their true preferences, thereby eliminating incentives for manipulation. Such mechanisms are important for achieving fairness, efficiency, and simplicity in practical applications. In environments without monetary transfers, voting and matching rules are two central classes of mechanisms. Voting rules are typically used for public decision-making, while matching rules allocate private goods among individuals. This thesis studies strategy-proof voting and matching rules under different environments and restrictions …

Measuring Modulation Envelope Of A Pound Drever Hall Feedback Loop, Josh S. Lee May 2026

Measuring Modulation Envelope Of A Pound Drever Hall Feedback Loop, Josh S. Lee

Physics and Astronomy Undergraduate Senior Theses

From improving qubit readout to real world medical technology, fast and ultrasensitive electrometry has many real world applications. The primary goal of the overarching project is to improve ultrasensitive charge detection using methods involving cavity-embedded Cooper pair transistor (cCPT) devices. This project hopes to accomplish this by using the gate-tunability of the cCPT to reduce the 1/f-noise, a type of low-frequency noise that can interfere with the cCPT’s measurement operability. By using a Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) feedback loop-inspired scheme that can adjust the cCPT gate, this project hopes to improve the stability of the cCPT’s resonant frequency against the 1/f-noise, in …

Traveling Wave Fronts For Sir Epidemic Models With Nonlocal Dispersal And Delayed Effects, Ashley Evette Embry May 2026

Traveling Wave Fronts For Sir Epidemic Models With Nonlocal Dispersal And Delayed Effects, Ashley Evette Embry

Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation investigates traveling wave solutions for two classes of delayed nonlocal dispersal susceptible--infected--recovered (SIR) epidemic models incorporating biologically realistic mechanisms such as delayed infectivity, delayed dispersal, nonlocal transmission, demographic turnover, and nonlinear incidence effects. These models extend classical spatial epidemic frameworks by allowing long-range population movement through nonlocal dispersal operators and incorporating temporal memory into both diffusion and transmission processes. The primary objective is to establish the existence of traveling wave solutions connecting disease-free equilibria to endemic states and to characterize threshold conditions governing epidemic propagation. The simultaneous presence of nonlocal dispersal, multiple delays, and non-monotone nonlinear incidence terms …

From Theory To Practice: Investigating Process Safety Skills Acquisition And Bridging The Industry Readiness Gap, Brittany Butler-Morton May 2026

From Theory To Practice: Investigating Process Safety Skills Acquisition And Bridging The Industry Readiness Gap, Brittany Butler-Morton

Theses and Dissertations

Process safety management is vital to companies operating highly hazardous materials or processes, and it is of interest to the engineering community as poor process safety judgments can have catastrophic results. Process safety judgments consider more than the prioritization of safety, as they are often influenced by elements like production, spending, reputation, and time. As such, it’s important to prepare engineering students nearing graduation for the complexity of these judgments and narrow the Theory-to-Practice gap for students entering industry. This work sought to identify 1) how the Theory-to-Practice gap is manifesting in process safety judgments, and 2) how the application …

Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scoring Implementation In A Critical Access Hospital, Jasmine A. Hobbs May 2026

Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scoring Implementation In A Critical Access Hospital, Jasmine A. Hobbs

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Mechanically ventilated patients who are boarding in rural emergency departments face an increased risk of inconsistent sedation management due to the lack of standardized protocols and the extended transfer times to higher levels of care. The variability in sedation practices can lead to both under- and over-sedation, which negatively affects patient comfort, safety, and clinical outcomes. Research suggests that sedation protocols incorporating the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) can shorten mechanical ventilation duration and improve clinical outcomes. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a targeted educational intervention on improving nursing knowledge and comfort with the RASS …

An Informationally Novel Sense Of Triviality For Harman’S Clutter Principle, Joseph D. Rasmussen May 2026

An Informationally Novel Sense Of Triviality For Harman’S Clutter Principle, Joseph D. Rasmussen

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Gilbert Harman (1986) argues that we ought not believe some logical consequences of our beliefs. To do this, he uses the Clutter Principle—that we should not clutter our minds with trivialities—and claims that some logical consequences are in some sense trivial. I show that interpreting Harman’s argument using an interest-driven sense of triviality (e.g. what Friedman calls junk) conflicts with a plausible epistemic norm. In light of this, epistemologists have turned the Clutter Principle into a norm on inquiry. This, however, loses the strength of the Clutter Principle in Harman’s argument. In this paper, I provide an alternate sense of …

Environmental And Pharmacological Modulation Of Opioid-Mediated Behavioral Effects In Rats, Corinne Ann Gallagher May 2026

Environmental And Pharmacological Modulation Of Opioid-Mediated Behavioral Effects In Rats, Corinne Ann Gallagher

Theses and Dissertations

Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and opioid-associated overdoses continue to pose significant burden to US healthcare systems—both financially and in lives lost. It is imperative to identify risk factors which may predispose vulnerability to OUD development, which could aid in discovery of new therapeutic strategies for susceptible populations. This dissertation investigated the impacts of two such risk factors which modulate opioid-induced reward and behavioral effects: adolescent stress and the adulteration of illicit opioids by xylazine. In Chapter 2, we examined the effects of acute adolescent stress on oxycodone self-administration in rats, and the potential involvement of the locus coeruleus in these …

An Ai-Integrated Methodology For Secure Software And System Development, Ian Matthew Campbell Coston

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Securing interconnected software systems requires more than layering existing frameworks on top of each other. Most current Secure Software and System Development Lifecycle (S-SDLC) models treat security as a phase rather than a design condition, leaving real gaps in governance, access control, and automated enforcement that become critical failure points in Internet of Things (IoT) environments where devices are resource-constrained, long-lived, and frequently insecure by default.

This dissertation introduces the Automated Zero Trust Risk Management with DevSecOps Integration (AZTRM-D) methodology, a novel approach that unifies DevSecOps automation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Risk Management Framework (RMF), and …

Task Sharing Of Tele-Mental Health Interventions In Primary Care: Formative Assessment Using Implementation Science, Frances Chu May 2026

Task Sharing Of Tele-Mental Health Interventions In Primary Care: Formative Assessment Using Implementation Science, Frances Chu

Dissertations

Primary care frequently cares for patients with mental health concerns. Tele-mental health (TMH) interventions are becoming used as alternatives to the traditional methods of mental health care delivery. However, implementation of these interventions has met with uneven implementation success. Task sharing is a care model that trains less specialized health care workers to perform tasks typically done by specialized health care workers. Few studies have examined the combination of Task sharing and TMH intervention for the management of mental conditions. This dissertation project utilized implementation science methodology for formative assessment of task sharing of TMH interventions. The goals of the …
