Solving Linearly Constrained Quadratic Programs Using Field Programmable Analog Arrays, Tyler Wynn, Alonzo Arroyo
Solving Linearly Constrained Quadratic Programs Using Field Programmable Analog Arrays, Tyler Wynn, Alonzo Arroyo
Electrical Engineering
This paper presents a field-programmable analog array (FPAA) implementation for solving linearly constrained quadratic programs (LCQPs) directly in the analog domain. The solver is based on a continuous-time primal-dual control architecture with integral action, anti-windup compensation, and a piecewise-linear nonlinearity for enforcing affine inequality constraints. A switched-capacitor implementation using three AN231E04 FPAAs is developed, and coefficient scaling methods are introduced to keep internal and output signals within the voltage limits of the hardware. A global scaling factor is used to reduce internal signal excursions, while solution-space scaling is shown to modify the implemented optimization coefficients and alter the local closed-loop …

Chemical And Sensory Consequences Of Oxidative And Reductive Handling Of White Wines, Amelia Pargellis
Chemical And Sensory Consequences Of Oxidative And Reductive Handling Of White Wines, Amelia Pargellis
Master's Theses
In the 2024 and 2025 vintage four experiments were performed each with a different varietal, namely Albariño, Grenache blanc, Loureiro, and Vermentino. These experiments investigated the effects of hyperoxygenation, reductive winemaking techniques, while monitoring the oxidation-reduction potential.
Albariño grapes were made following two juice protocols, control/reductive (Reductive Control) and oxidative (HyOx). Reductive Control received antioxidants (50 ppm SO2, 160 mg/L ascorbic acid) and CO2 blanketing, and HyOx underwent hyperoxygenation at approximately 700 mL/L/h of air for two hours through a stainless-steel sparging stone with 10-µm pores. Juice was cold-settled and racked. Reductive Control juice was split into …
The Effects Of Bone Health And Variation On Saw Mark Signatures, Lily Ambrose
The Effects Of Bone Health And Variation On Saw Mark Signatures, Lily Ambrose
PCOM Biomedical Studies Student Scholarship
Bone health and structural variation are multifactorial. Population, environment, age, diet, and health influence the overall functional morphology of bone and its response to stressors. Reduced cortical porosity, trabecular thinning, and low bone mass are common indicators of age-related and pathological changes, affecting a significant portion of the population. Because of this, bones encountered in medicolegal investigations often differ from what is considered “normal.” The structural integrity of bone needs to be considered because density influences mechanical strength and response to external forces. In criminal dismemberment cases, forensic scientists analyze saw marks to identify tool class and reconstruct events. While …
The Effect Of Bai1 Deficiency On Cell Survival During The Critical Period Of Retinal Development, Nicholas Mirmanesh
The Effect Of Bai1 Deficiency On Cell Survival During The Critical Period Of Retinal Development, Nicholas Mirmanesh
PCOM Biomedical Studies Student Scholarship
The postnatal retina undergoes further development during the critical period, during which excess neurons are culled, and synapses are refined to shape the mature retinal circuitry. Brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor-1 (BAI1) has been implicated in synaptic development, phagocytosis, the regulation of angiogenesis, and inflammatory signaling, suggesting it may play an important role in retinal maturation. The goal of this project was to determine how BAI1 deficiency affects retinal cell survival and layer morphology during the critical period. Mice were divided into three genotype groups: BAI1 +/+ Wild Type (WT), +/- (Het), and -/- (KO). Apoptotic cells were quantified using TUNEL staining …

Ammonihah's Allegory Of Damnation: "Fire And Brimstone" In The Book Of Mormon And Doctrine & Covenants, Ella Bethany Sessions
Honors Projects
This paper examines D&C 76, an 1832 revelation penned by Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon that details Mormon theology in regards to eternity, salvation, and damnation, and Mosiah 27 and Alma 9–14 from the Book of Mormon to observe and analyze how the D&C 76’s specificity is mirrored and encased in two Book of Mormon stories: Alma the Younger and Ammonihah. The first section synthesizes D&C 76’s doctrinal claims and contextualizes Mormonism’s salvation and damnation as uniquely epistemic—or reliant on knowledge—and oriented around the internal processes of progression towards or away from God as necessary precedents to external and eternal …

Growing up, I listened to political conversations at family gatherings that seemed to consume the …
Sensitivity-Aware Thresholding And Token Routing For Activation Sparsification In Large Language Models, Bishmoy Paul
Sensitivity-Aware Thresholding And Token Routing For Activation Sparsification In Large Language Models, Bishmoy Paul
Electrical and Computer Engineering Master's Theses
Efficient inference in Large Language Models (LLMs) requires deciding where computation can be reduced while preserving model quality. We study this problem through multilayer perceptron (MLP) activation modification, activation sparsification and token-level conditional routing. We propose Sensitivity-Aware Thresholding for Sparsity (SATS), a threshold calibration method to choose layerwise gate thresholds using a local MLP output sensitivity proxy rather than calibrating thresholds directly from activation percentiles. While SATS retains the existing mechanism of sparsifying MLP activations by thresholding gate activations, it replaces percentile-based calibration with a sensitivity-aware selection rule. We then introduce a lightweight token routing framework that dynamically selects between …

Mechanical Engineering Senior Theses
This project focuses on the design and validation of a camless engine valve system as an alternative to traditional camshaft-based valvetrain architectures. Conventional engines rely on fixed camshaft profiles that limit performance and efficiency across varying operating conditions. The goal of this work is to replace both the camshaft and throttle body with a pneumatically actuated system capable of independently controlling valve timing, lift, and duration in real time. By removing the mechanical constraints of a camshaft, the system has the potential to optimize engine operation across all RPM ranges, improving efficiency and overall performance without requiring major changes to …
