Hardware-Level Protocol Proxying For Dynamic-Capacity Memory Systems, Vadlamudi Venkata Girish Aug 2026

Hardware-Level Protocol Proxying For Dynamic-Capacity Memory Systems, Vadlamudi Venkata Girish

Defensive Publications Series

Hardware-level protocol proxying (HLPP) resolves latency conflicts between a host’s transaction timers and the analog wake-up of power-gated, dynamic-capacity memory in compute express link (CXL) systems. The architecture decouples the host’s error-containment domain from the memory’s physical wake-up domain using one of three distinct hardware mechanisms. One approach involves a CXL switch performing dynamic topological hot-swapping, which routes initial memory requests through an isolated, high-latency virtual path and atomically swaps to a low-latency production path after the memory awakens. In another method, a CXL memory controller performs protocol spoofing by sending synthetic shadow completion packets to the host to repeatedly …

Low-Temperature Co2-Enhanced Reductive Bioleaching For Selective Nickel Recovery From Iron-Rich Silicate Tailings, With Concurrent Carbon Sequestration, Kwabena Boafo, Palas Kamlakar Borkar, Atharva Rane, Timothy Eisele Aug 2026

Low-Temperature Co2-Enhanced Reductive Bioleaching For Selective Nickel Recovery From Iron-Rich Silicate Tailings, With Concurrent Carbon Sequestration, Kwabena Boafo, Palas Kamlakar Borkar, Atharva Rane, Timothy Eisele

Michigan Tech Publications

Recovering nickel from iron-rich mine tailings by bioleaching is held back by the co-dissolution of iron, which gives pregnant leach solutions with high Fe/Ni mass ratios and heavy downstream purification costs. This study shows that running bioleaching at 0 °C under a CO2-enriched atmosphere, with no post-leach iron removal step, lowers the Fe/Ni mass ratio in the leachate from 13.87 at 25 °C to 2.25 at 0 °C, a 6.2-fold improvement against a feed Fe/Ni ratio of 119:1. Nickel recovery stayed near 45% at both temperatures, showing that the fen-derived psychrotolerant consortium remained fully active near freezing. The mechanism rests …

Development Of Robust Ratio Linear Fitting Method Of Temperature And Emissivity Separation For High-Temperature Data, Mitchell Manzardo, Michael L. Dexter, Shannon R. Young, John Bowlan, Anthony L. Franz

Faculty Publications

Accurate temperature and emissivity separation from thermal infrared radiance is essential for characterizing materials under high-temperature laboratory conditions. Existing temperature and emissivity separation methods have largely been developed for multispectral remote sensing applications, where long atmospheric path lengths require extensive atmospheric compensation. In contrast, the current work considers hyperspectral laboratory measurements acquired over a short optical path, where atmospheric effects are comparatively small but increased measurement uncertainty remains within portions of the measured spectrum. The ABB MR304 FTIR spectrometer used in this study exhibits reduced optical transmission below approximately 2.5 μm, producing increased measurement uncertainty within the spectral region containing …

Under a Florida law enacted in 2023, a judge may impose the death penalty only if the jury first “determine[s] that the defendant should be sentenced to death.” Fla. Stat. § 921.141(2)(c). The question presented is whether the Sixth or Eighth Amendment requires that jury determination to be unanimous, or whether it suffices—as provided in the statute—for only eight of the twelve jurors to vote for death.

Accounting for land-use change underlying food sector expansion is critical for conserving ecosystem integrity. This challenge is particularly acute in the Amazon, where the conversion of forests for food production is pronounced and has broad implications for global biodiversity and the cycling of water and carbon. Here, we analyze land-use transitions associated with aquaculture development in the Brazilian Amazon. We found that a 450-fold increase in aquaculture pond area from 1985 to 2022 occurred primarily on pasturelands (87%) but also included wetland conversion (4%) and deforestation (5%). Notably, continued growth can be sustained within already altered landscapes: In Rondônia, the …

Children’s Nutrition Research Center Staff Publications

Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have revolutionized the management of not only type 2 diabetes but also obesity. However, even with rapid therapeutic advances in GLP-1RAs, questions regarding the fundamental principles of GLP-1-mediated weight loss and the enhanced efficacy of next-generation therapies remain. In this comprehensive review article, we first examine the milestones of GLP-1, from its initial discovery and biological characterization to its successful translation into clinical therapy. Furthermore, this review highlights the latest clinical trial data, specifically HbA1c reduction, weight-loss efficacy, and safety profiles, while exploring current pipelines of major pharmaceutical companies. Additionally, we delineate the mechanistic …

Simulation And Delivery Of The Next Stage Of The Cebra Array, Hanna J. Ross

Physics and Astronomy Summer Fellows

The CeBrA detector array at Florida State University’s Fox Lab uses a collection of CeBr3 scintillator detectors to collect gamma rays emitted by excited nuclear reaction products to gain information about nuclear energy levels of a nucleus of interest. When the array was commissioned, it contained five individual detectors. Expanding the array maximizes its efficiency and accuracy. In collaboration with FSU, Ursinus College has purchased nine additional detectors that will be added to the array at the end of the summer. While the detectors are still in our possession, we are working to create an accurate simulation model of …

Is Hanpp A Stressor Of Bird Species Richness?, Kaeli Mueller, Gustavo Ovando-Montejo, Christopher Lant Aug 2026

Is Hanpp A Stressor Of Bird Species Richness?, Kaeli Mueller, Gustavo Ovando-Montejo, Christopher Lant

Environment and Society Student Research

One of the leading drivers of biodiversity loss is land use change due to the ever-increasing demand for food, livestock feed, biofiber, and biofuel. The concept of human appropriation of net primary production (HANPP) was developed to measure the impact that humans have on the environment by accounting for biomass removed from the environment in the form of crops, timber, and grazing. The species–energy hypothesis is an established ecological hypothesis postulating that greater species diversity is correlated with higher levels of energy from plant productivity; this can be measured as net primary production minus harvested HANPP or NPPecological. …

Enhancing Algae Biofilm Quantity And Value Through Controlled Light Intensity For Treatment Of Municipal Anaerobic Digestor Effluent, Joshua D. Wintch, Ronald C. Sims

Biological Engineering Student Research

Rotating algae biofilm reactors (RABRs) have been shown to remove nutrients from wastewater and to cultivate algae for bioproducts. Another key variable in RABR technology for cultivating microalgae biomass is light intensity. The goal of this study was to address a gap in the design and operation of algae biofilm reactors by analyzing the effects of light intensity on biomass quality and quantity, chemical precipitation of phosphorus, and phosphorus uptake into biomass. This study utilized a triplicate laboratory-scale experiment with PAR intensities from 10 to 2000 µmol m−2·s−1. Municipal wastewater anaerobic digester effluent (ADE) was utilized …

The Brown Foundation: Institute of Molecular Medicine

Brain perivascular macrophages maintain brain physiology, yet their transcriptional regulators and functions in health and disease remain unclear. Using single-cell multi-omics and functional experiments, we identify cellular musculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma oncogene (cMAF) as a key transcription factor for brain perivascular macrophages, and conditional deletion of cMAF disrupts their phenotype in vivo. Functionally, cMAF drives insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) expression in perivascular macrophages, enabling communication with endothelial cells. Consistently, cMAF deletion in perivascular macrophages causes transcriptional alterations in cerebral arteries, affecting vascular functions. Notably, cMAF emerges as the main transcription factor for human perivascular macrophages, suggesting conservation of this transcriptional module. During …

3338 Fish Ave Llc V. Malcolm

All Decisions

Tenant, who had been self-represented when she stipulated to a final judgment of possession, moved to vacate the stipulation on the ground that she unknowingly waived a complete defense—landlord's failure to plead the applicability of the Good Cause Eviction Law as required for proceedings filed after April 20, 2024. The court granted the motion, finding the stipulation was entered into inadvisedly, and vacated both the stipulation and the judgment and warrant of eviction.

All Decisions

Tenant moved to extend the time to vacate an unregulated apartment after failing to locate alternative housing despite holding a CityFHEPS voucher. The court denied the motion, holding that RPAPL § 753 and CPLR § 2201 do not authorize further delay where the parties—each represented by counsel—entered into a clear, final stipulation of settlement after full litigation, and that courts must enforce such stipulations with rigor.

Focused ultrasound can be delivered through the temporal window to modulate heterogeneously located brain areas. Acoustic simulations allow for safety assessments when dynamically targeting brain structures, but the mismatch between simulation and measured focal pressure can vary across the steerable range due to mechanically inaccurate assumptions made about the skull and transducer. Here, we describe efficient methods for simulation-measurement calibration using axisymmetric projections and sparse sampling across a 3D steerable subspace encompassing deep brain targets across 157 subjects. To address the simulation-reality mismatch in skull transmission, we used the measured and predicted pressure values through eight human temporal window fragments …

The metabolic importance of brown adipose tissue (BAT) has been recognized, but its origins, particularly supraclavicular BAT (scBAT), remain unclear. Here, we traced scBAT to Mef2c-anterior heart field (AHF)-marked cells. Mef2c-AHF-marked cells isolated from scBAT can spontaneously differentiate into brown adipocytes, express mesenchymal stem cell markers, and can be isolated from the stromal-vascular fraction (SVF) of wild-type scBAT as [CD31

Pushed To The Edges? Electivity Patterns Of Urban Stream Homeless Encampments In Environmentally Burdened Areas, Serena Alexander, Bennett Williamson, Jeff Wootton, Costanza Rampini, Gregory Brian Pasternack, Yufang Jin, Rune Storesund, Igor Lacan

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Urban stream corridors in the San Francisco Bay Area have increasingly become locations for homeless encampments, yet little is known about the environmental conditions of these spaces. This study uses a geospatial electivity index to examine whether urban stream encampments in Santa Clara and Contra Costa counties are disproportionately located in census tracts with high pollution burdens, as measured by CalEnviroScreen 4.0. Findings show a statistically significant overrepresentation of encampments in census tracts in the top 25% of pollution and vulnerability scores, and a significant underrepresentation in lower-pollution areas. These results suggest that homeless individuals are being pushed toward environmentally …

Token-Efficient Verification For Self-Improving Root-Cause-Analysis Agents, Necati Cehreli Aug 2026

Token-Efficient Verification For Self-Improving Root-Cause-Analysis Agents, Necati Cehreli

Defensive Publications Series

Proposed herein is a system that chooses how much testing is needed for an improvement to an artificial intelligence (AI) root cause analysis (RCA) agent before the system trusts the improvement. Small, local changes can receive quick replay first, while broad or risky changes require a full rerun or multi-case batch testing. One result of the proposed approach is a safer and less costly self-improvement loop through which a system can spend additional testing effort when the change warrants such testing.

Deterministic, Model-Independent Grounding-Integrity Mechanisms For Retrieval-Augmented And Agentic Language-Model Systems, Roberto A. Wenzel

Defensive Publications Series

Revision 1.2 of a defensive publication disclosing deterministic, model-independent grounding-integrity mechanisms for retrieval-augmented and agentic LLM systems. The mechanisms make citation resolvability an invariant of every output mode routed through a cross-tool evidence registry — detect → bounce → strip with compound-citation surgery, an ordering rule, and a strip-event notice — and make degradations of grounding (a removed citation, a deleted source, an unverified item, a suspect "not found") visible to the reviewer rather than silent. Revision 1.2 adds Technique G (decompose-and-verify: per-unit grounding, byte-identical scoped regeneration, de-correlated verification, citation tombstones, honest terminal states), a precise trust model and guarantee …

Evidence-Partitioned Autonomy Authorization For Llm Agents: Single-Use Capability Tokens, A Selection-Bias Firewall, And Pre-Outcome Committed Audit Selection In A Cross-Model Execution-Authority Control Loop, Jason Edward Plumb Aug 2026

Evidence-Partitioned Autonomy Authorization For Llm Agents: Single-Use Capability Tokens, A Selection-Bias Firewall, And Pre-Outcome Committed Audit Selection In A Cross-Model Execution-Authority Control Loop, Jason Edward Plumb

Defensive Publications Series

Large-language-model agents are routinely granted execution authority they have not earned: per-call permission prompts do not scale, allowlists do not adapt, and commercial “trust scores” are heuristic. This disclosure describes a deterministic, fail-closed execution-authority control loop in which model outputs are never authority. One model may only propose typed, exactly-argued actions; a second model may only request execution of an unmodified proposal; a host-owned controller authorizes each operation immediately before it executes; and a gateway redeeming single-use capability tokens is the only path to side effects. Four mechanisms are disclosed in enabling detail: (1) an autonomy-evidence store partitioned by a …
