Rocked In The Cradle Of The Deep, Emma Willard, Joseph Phillip Knight, Charles Crozat Dec 1852

Rocked In The Cradle Of The Deep, Emma Willard, Joseph Phillip Knight, Charles Crozat

Historic Sheet Music Collection

Rock’d in the cradle of the deep
I lay me down in peace to sleep;
Secure I rest upon the wave
For thou oh Lord, hast power to save.
I know thou wilt not slight my call,
For thou dost mark the sparrow’s fall!
And calm and peaceful is my sleep
Rock’d in the cradle of the deep,
And clam and peaceful is my sleep
Rock’d in the cradle of the deep.

Consider The Lilies, Robert Topliff

Historic Sheet Music Collection

neither do they spin they toil not
neither do they spin
And yet I say unto you I say
unto you that even Solomon in all his glory
Was not arrayed like one of these
Consider the lillies how they grow
Consider the lillies how they grow
they toil not, they toil …

And still at evening, I am weeping,
When from my window's height,
I look out on the night,
I still am weeping,
My lone watch keeping.
When form my window's height,
I look out on the night,
I still am weeping,
My lone watch keeping.

[Verse 2]
When I, his truth to prove, would trifle with my love,
When I, his truth to prove, would trifle with my love,
He'd say "for me thou shalt be weeping,
When …

The Heroic Slave, Frederick Douglass Dec 1852

The Heroic Slave, Frederick Douglass

Electronic Texts in American Studies

Frederick Douglass based this story on the real-life heroism of Madison Washington, who led the largest successful slave revolt in U.S. history in 1841. First, Mr. Listwell from Ohio sees Madison enslaved in Virginia, then a fugitive in Ohio, and finally a recaptured returnee bound from Richmond to the slave markets of New Orleans. Lastly, Tom Grant, the mate on the slave transport Creole, describes the ship’s takeover by its human cargo and its passage to the British Bahamas, where 128 men and women stepped out of …

Oregon, General Correspondence, 1853, 1872-1874, John The Baptist A. Brouillet, Bureau Of Catholic Indian Missions

Oregon

Records in this group are organized by record group and then state or territory and year. Collection organization varies very little throughout the collection, however, prior to 1921, general correspondence was organized by location. Starting with Director Hughes, general correspondence was placed as its own subgroup within the collection and is organized alphabetically. Please go to Ask An Archivist if you …
