The percentage of Rhode Islanders who feel better off financially than they were a year ago and expect to be better off a year from now continues to fall. Half of state residents envision bad times for the national and state economies over the next year. Most Rhode Islanders say their cost of living has increased in the past year, particularly those with the highest incomes. Groceries, gasoline, and energy are mentioned by three-quarters or more as areas where they have seen notable increases. Pulmonary Adenocarcinoma Arising From Somatic-Type Malignant Transformation Of A Nonseminomatous Germ Cell Tumor: A Case Report, Abdel Martinez Borrego, Brandon Cantazaro, Fatimah Bello, Christine Vega, Natacha Vargas, Payal Bhakta, Renzo Arauco

Somatic-type malignant transformation (STM) is a rare but aggressive complication of nonseminomatous germ cell tumors (NSGCTs), most commonly arising from the teratomatous component and frequently occurring in metastatic sites. We report the case of a man in his 20s with a history of mixed NSGCT (50% yolk sac tumor, 40% teratoma, and 10% embryonal carcinoma) treated with left orchiectomy and chemotherapy in 2023, who initially responded to treatment but was subsequently lost to follow-up. He presented with one week of progressive dyspnea and pleuritic left-sided chest pain. Serum alpha-fetoprotein was markedly elevated at 2,966.7 ng/mL. Single-Session Robot-Assisted Removal Of A Retained Ureteral Stent With Complex Proximal And Distal Encrustation: A Case Report, Maximo Alvarez, Cole Freedman, Emma Romero, Paul Kim, Alexis Garza, Harras Zaid

Retained encrusted ureteral stents represent a complex urologic problem, particularly in patients with limited healthcare access. We present a 28-year-old undocumented female with a 10-month retained ureteral stent who developed massive right-sided encrustation, including a 3 cm proximal renal stone near the renal pelvis and a 5-6 cm bladder stone, classified as FECal Grade IV-V. A single-session combined approach consisting of robot-assisted cystolithotomy, intraoperative ureteroscopy with stent exchange, and robot-assisted pyelolithotomy was performed successfully. Intraoperative ureteroscopy between operative phases confirmed ureteral clearance and enabled immediate stent placement without repositioning delay. Background:

Inclusive music-making requires instruments that support varied bodies, abilities, musical backgrounds, and forms of participation. Digital musical instruments provide diverse approaches to sound creation, and fabric-based interfaces offer an alternative interaction modality that may support participation for some users and contexts. Their tactile and deformable properties enable forms of interaction that differ from conventional rigid or screen-based controllers and may offer inclusive possibilities in particular settings.

Matching And Mentoring: Effects Of Managers On Worker Productivity, Chengyuan Hua

Economics Faculty Working Papers Series

This paper studies how managers matter for worker productivity by exploiting manager moves in Major League Baseball. I first show that manager effects are primarily match-specific using an AKM-type model. Then, staggered difference-in-differences results show positive effects of shared characteristics, including same position, both lefties, and same hometown. Effects of same position and both lefties are larger than same hometown. Effects are more pronounced for younger and less productive workers, indicating that mentoring is the primary mechanism while in-group bias is secondary. Finally, there is suggestive evidence that a manager’s productivity as a worker is not a positive characteristic.

Sex-specific penetrance in autosomal-dominant Mendelian conditions is largely understudied. The neurodevelopmental disorder Pilarowski-Bjornsson syndrome (PILBOS) was initially described in females. Here, we describe the clinical and genetic characteristics of the largest PILBOS cohort to date, showing that both sexes can exhibit PILBOS features, although males are overrepresented. A mouse model carrying a human-derived Chd1 missense variant (Chd1^R616Q/+) displays female-restricted phenotypes, including growth deficiency, anxiety, and hypotonia. Orchiectomy unmasks a growth-deficiency phenotype in male Chd1^R616Q/+ mice, while testosterone rescues the phenotype in females, implicating androgens in phenotype modulation. Irrigation is essential for most crop production in Utah. With an ever-increasing population, regular drought cycles, and environmental concerns, there is a public discourse about agricultural irrigation water use. This fact sheet is an effort to step back in time to consider the heritage of irrigated agriculture in Utah, from prehistory to the present, and the modernization of irrigation driven by global industrialization and the information age.

Granite Staters Disapprove Of Trump's Tariffs, Think They Will Increase Cost Of Living 9/3/2026, Unh Survey Center

Pluralities of New Hampshire residents feel worse off financially than a year ago and expect to be doing about the same a year from now. More than three-quarters of Granite Staters say their cost of living has increased in the past year, especially gasoline, groceries, and energy. More than three-quarters expect tariffs to cause prices to increase and a majority disapprove of President Trump's use of them so far. Overall, Granite Staters are largely pessimistic about the wider national economy, with a majority expecting a recession within the next year, but are more ambivalent about the New Hampshire economy.

Generative systems that react to live musicians require rapid analysis of musical data, which rules out deep learning models: they cannot be trained within the time constraints of live performance. But because analysis results are often transformed before use, we are free to reduce the parameters that undergo transformation to a small set of primitive states. Central to its delivery are link workers; their effectiveness depends, in part, on the availability and quality of training. BACKGROUND: Point-of-care testing (POCT) has expanded rapidly across healthcare systems, increasing both program scale and operational complexity. However, quantitative benchmarking data describing how POCT programs are structured and supported across institutions remain limited.

METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey to characterize POCT program support, including program scope, staffing, operational practices, governance, and challenges. The survey was distributed electronically through professional networks, and 93 institutional responses were analyzed. Descriptive analyses were performed, and derived metrics, including sites per point-of-care testing coordinator (POCC), were used to evaluate the relationship between program scale and staffing.

These changes can make social interaction challenging, particularly in unfamiliar or overstimulating environments. Acquired brain injury (ABI) is the leading cause of adulthood injury-related death and disability worldwide. Despite ABI’s prevalence, little is known about the extent to which social workers are prepared for brain injury working and specifically pre-qualifying brain injury curricula. This study employed a nine-item survey regarding brain injury social work knowledge. The survey asked about curricula inclusion within social work pre-qualification via multiple education providers to understand the extent to which brain injury training is incorporated within UK courses. BACKGROUND: Bloodstream infections (BSI) are a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients. Rapid diagnosis of BSI is critical for timely and appropriate clinical management, but current diagnostic strategies have a prolonged turnaround time or only identify select pathogens with minimal prognostic information.

METHODS: We examined serial serologic samples from 77 intensive care unit (ICU) patients at time points before, during, and after diagnosis of presumptive BSI to identify host-derived protein biomarkers associated with specific organisms and with clinical outcomes in BSI.
