Sebin is currently interning at Avance Counseling, located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago. Avance provides therapeutic services for individuals primarily referred through the court system or DCFS, including domestic violence, substance abuse treatment, anger management interventions, parenting coaching, and individualized mental-health counseling. In this role, Sebin assists counselors with case management services, intake interviews, mental health evaluations, and integrated summaries. He also shadows various group counseling sessions. Through this experience, Sebin is deepening his understanding of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and how they can be applied to support the long term recoveries of individuals.

This presentation highlights my internship experience with the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, where I served as a Health Equity Intern on the Health Equity, Education, and Advocacy team. During this internship, I developed health communication materials, created educational social media content, conducted research, and analyzed community health data. My work focused on improving awareness, accessibility, and support for individuals living with epilepsy. This experience strengthened my understanding of health equity, public health communication, and chronic disease advocacy while allowing me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world public health practice.

Trash Trap: Comparing Plastic Pollution In The Chicago River And Chicago’S Montrose Harbor, Thomas Botsford-Rhodes

Pollution from trash, especially plastic, is a growing environmental and public health concern, intensified by climate change. Urban lakes and rivers are major pathways for litter entering oceans, making them key targets for prevention and removal. This study examined litter entering a Lake Michigan marina and the Chicago River. Debris was collected using a Marina Skimmer at Montrose Harbor (8 weeks) and a Seabin near the Wrigley Building (23 weeks). Samples were dried, sorted, and weighed. Results indicated plastic was the most common material, with dominant categories including large (>3mm) and small (<3mm) fragments and food-related waste. These findings can inform targeted public education and policy efforts to reduce litter.

As an intern, I support constituent services and legislative operations by managing active casework, coordinating with federal agencies on immigration, veterans’ affairs, and administrative matters to help secure expedited processing, financial assistance, and timely resolutions. I assist in drafting and reviewing legislative memoranda on federal policy issues, including materials submitted to oversight bodies. I also serve as the sole DEIA Initiative Intern across six offices, contributing to newsletter development, stakeholder engagement, and internal policy implementation. In addition, I draft letters supporting federal grant applications and manage constituent correspondence, ensuring accurate documentation and timely responses across high-volume communications channels.

The Birrundudu Drawings represent one of the most significant bodies of historical imagery ever introduced into the canons of Australian art. A collection of 810 crayon drawings were created by sixteen Aboriginal men working on a Northern Territory cattle station in 1945. Until recently, most of these drawings have never been seen, let alone researched, published or exhibited. For the last five years I have been engaged in a project firstly to share the existence of the drawings with the families of the men who made them, and then to explore whether we could also share them with the public. …

Changing Ocean Chemistry: Impacts Of Ocean Deoxygenation And Acidification From Benthic Iron Fluxes To Fisheries, De'marcus Robinson

Ocean deoxygenation and acidification are impacting marine ecosystems, contributing to changes in ocean biogeochemical cycling and fisheries across the U.S. West Coast and northern Gulf of America/Mexico. Using spatially and temporally resolved observations, numerical modeling, and biogeochemical analyses, this seminar examines how changing ocean conditions influence processes from water-column oxygen dynamics to marine organisms. In the Santa Barbara Basin, observations of dissolved O₂ reveal persistent decadal hypoxic and anoxic conditions and changes in deep-water ventilation associated with high benthic iron fluxes (0.23–4.9 mmol m⁻² d⁻¹). Combining benthic iron flux measurements with numerical simulations demonstrates how iron availability can enhance surface …

This quality improvement project evaluated the effectiveness of implementing a standardized two-nurse admission skin assessment, supported by digital wound photography, to strengthen documentation accuracy and improve recognition of pressure injuries at a large tertiary medical center. Hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) remain a serious safety and financial concern, and inconsistent, subjective admission skin assessments limit the ability to distinguish present-on-admission conditions from hospital-acquired injuries. Guided by the Plan-Do-Study-Act methodology, the intervention was implemented across five targeted units following staff education, workflow updates, and integration of secure, HIPAA-compliant wound photography. Background: Hypothermia is a common perioperative complication and affects up to 70% of surgical patients undergoing general anesthesia. Hypothermia is preventable yet remains unaddressed in surgical settings throughout the United States. Complications include prolonged coagulation, increased surgical site infections, and delayed recovery, leading to additional costs between $2,500 and $7,000 per patient.

Purpose: This evidence-based quality improvement project aimed to implement a prewarming protocol using AORN thermal management guidelines and preoperatively prevent unintended hypothermia in adult surgical patients undergoing general anesthesia. This study examined relationships among cultural humility, cultural intelligence, colorblind racial attitudes, and social justice attitudes among U.S. nursing faculty. Grounded in emancipatory knowing and emancipatory nursing praxis [1,6], the purpose was to explore how faculty cultural competencies and racial attitudes relate to social justice orientation in nursing education, particularly amid health inequities and scrutiny of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

A quantitative, correlational design was used with 54 nursing faculty.
