Grazing Systems For Dairy, Donna M. Amaral-Phillips Nov 2003

Grazing Systems For Dairy, Donna M. Amaral-Phillips

Kentucky Grazing Conference

Forages which are grazed can provide anywhere from 25 to 100% of the forage consumed by growing dairy heifers, dry cows or the milking herd. In this paper, I would like to specifically deal with devising a grazing program for a dairy lactating or milking herd. Lactating dairy cows are a “high performance animal” and, as such, any decreases in the availability or quality of forage can quickly decrease milk production. Thus, the goal when designing a grazing system is to provide adequate quantities of high-quality, vegetative forage to prevent decreases in performance. These decreases in performance occur in all …

Paper Session I-A - Microencapsulation Of Drugs: New Cancer Therapies And Improved Drug Delivery From Microgravity Research, Dennis R. Morrison Ph.D., Ruwaida S. Haddad Ph.D. Apr 2003

Paper Session I-A - Microencapsulation Of Drugs: New Cancer Therapies And Improved Drug Delivery From Microgravity Research, Dennis R. Morrison Ph.D., Ruwaida S. Haddad Ph.D.

Space Congress® Proceedings

Experiments on the ISS include encapsulation of several different anti-cancer drugs, magnetic triggering particles, and encapsulation of genetically engineered DNA. Eight experiments, using the MEPS-II apparatus, were conducted to study the limitations of the fluid shear and g- dependent forces. These studies included: 1) formation of anti-tumor microcapsules containing drugs for “Chemoembolization” of vascularized tumors, 2) formation of microcapsules containing a photo-activated drug which can be used for Photo Dynamic Therapy of solid tumors by activation with near infrared light (630 nm), 3) coencapsulation of magnetic trigger particles and anti-tumor drugs, and 4) encapsulation of plasmid DNA. The Microencapsulation Electrostatic …
