Early American German-language almanac donated to Bridgewater College Special Collections in 2017 by Donna Spitler Fields and Joyce Spitler Nicholson. It is an example of Pennsylvania-German printing with fraktur typeface set on the famous Christopher Sower Press. The almanac was passed down in the Spitler family of Page County, Virginia. The family was associated with the Church of the Brethren in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The almanac was conserved and digitized in 2018 with funding by Fields and Nicholson and Bridgewater College Special Collections.

Steller’s classic work, published in Latin in 1751 and in German in 1753, contains the only scientific description from life of the Steller’s sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas), as well as the first scientific descriptions of the fur seal or “sea bear” (Callorhinus ursinus), Steller’s sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus), and the sea otter (Enhydra lutris).

After the Restoration of the English monarchy in the person of Charles II in 1660, the new king and his first Parliament declared the anniversary of the beheading of his father Charles I (January 30, 1649) a religious holiday with a special commemoration in the Book of Common Prayer, naming the late monarch a saint and martyr. This book is a collection of engraved portraits and biographical essays of the Jesuit Superior Generals. The collection includes biographical subjects from the establishment of the Jesuit order to the time of the book’s publication. It is a large, unpaginated, folio volume, about 16.25 inches tall. An English translation of the title is Images of the Superior Generals of the Society of Jesus.

Some indentures were completely handwritten; this one is a mixture of printing and handwriting. The printed text lays out the conditions of the agreement, suggesting they were set and unchangeable, and also interchangeable any master and prospective apprentice could use them. In this instance, the agreement is between cordwainer (shoemaker) Johannes Boone and William Stanton, son of William Stanton, aged about 9 years. These copied pages from the Fairfax County Deed Book Liber A-1, 1742-1746 contain a deed between Hugh Cotswell and William Williams for one thousand, seven hundred and forty acres in Truro Parish, Fairfax County, Virginia. Handwritten notes on the margin and at the top of the first page of the deed indicated that Myrtis Wineman does not believe the William Williams named in the deed is her ancestor and why.

The New York Gazette (1726-1744) was the first newspaper published by William Bradford in New York. Historian Frank Luther Mott has described the paper as a "small two-page paper, poorly printed, and containing chiefly foreign news from three to six months old, state papers, lists of ships entered and cleared, and a few advertisements."

James Alexander wrote to John Lawrence regarding instructions concerning the Pine Land, unaddressed. James Alexander provided further instructions to the Deputy Surveyors of the Eastern Division of New Jersey. When they surveyed any lands upon pine warrants, they were also to return the value of the lands to the best of their judgment and note how much land was worth thirty pounds per hundred acres.
