Cesar A. Rodney was a lawyer, politician, and diplomat from Delaware. His uncle, also Cesar Rodney, signed the Declaration of Independence. In 1817 he was sent on a special mission to South America by President Monroe to determine the propriety of recognizing the independence of the Spanish-American republics. This letter to his son (a midshipman on the Sloop Ontario) relates to this mission.

This is a legal document created by Caleb O. Halsed. It was an agreement to Manumit an Enslaved Woman named Jude, after ten years of service. It stated that the contract was not binding "unless the servant woman faithfully fulfills" her part. It was signed by Silvanus Peirson on June 2, 1817. This document is missing the section with Halsted's signature. The Bill of Sale between Halsed and Samuel Downer for Jude was created the same day.

Dudley has paid off the debt of a man named Smith which amounted $1000. Dudley reports on Ithamal Chase's reply declining health and imminent death in Keene New Hampshire.

Concerned over Mrs. P. Livingston’s anxiousness for her younger son. Mr. De Laforest was always embellishing his estate and happy in his county life. Mrs. De Laforest’s daughter (Marie Caroline de La Forest) had three beautiful little girls and was pregnant with another baby. Her health suffered greatly during her pregnancies. Discussed further about mutual acquaintances and friends.
