• Microplastics (MP) are pieces of plastic less than 5 micrometers (mm). Microplastics are found in our environment and have even been found in the food humans consume, including in drinks from plastic bottles (Hu 2020).
• Di-butyl Phthalate (DBP) is a chemical known as a plasticizer commonly used in PVC applications, ink, fragrances, and adhesives
• Di-butyl Phthalate has been found to have negative effects on the physiological length of C. elegans (Xiyan 2018)
• Microplastics have similarly been found to decrease the physiological length of C. elegans (Schöpfer 2020)
• The combined effects of MPs and DBP include …

- β-lactams are essential structural components of many antibiotics and widely studied due to their biological importance and synthetic versatility.
- The Ugi reaction is a multicomponent reaction, involving a primary amine, carboxylic acid, isocyanide, and an aldehyde or a ketone, that rapidly generates α-acetamido carboxamide derivatives (Ugi adducts).
- The synthesis and characterization of four oxindole-based β-lactam derivatives:
- 1-Benzyl-N-(tert-butyl)-2-oxo-3-(2-oxoazetidin-1-yl)indoline-3-carboxamide (4a).
- N-(tert-butyl)-2-oxo-3-(2-oxoazetidin-1-yl)-1-phenylindol-3-carboxamide (4ab).
- N-(tert-Butyl)-2-oxo-3-(2-oxoazetidin-1-yl)indoline-3-carboxamide (4d).
- N-(tert-butyl)-1-methyl-2-oxo-3-(2-oxoazetidin-1-yl)indol-3-carboxamide (4e).
- The coordination of the four Ugi adducts with Cu (II) and Ni (II) at different pH points to enhance their stability and improve biological activity.

Zigzags or “letdown ladders” limit the flow speed of dry grains as they flow downward by gravity when loading silos, ships, barges, railcars, or trucks.
• Reduce cracking and shattering of grains.
• Increase grain shelf life.
• Increase grain resale value. • Increase ability of grain to germinate.
• Reduce generation of grain dust, an explosion and environmental hazard.
How can we design a zigzag that we know will not plug?

In salamanders, previous findings have shown that subterranean environments impose different selection pressures on sensory systems than surface environments do (1). Differences in ocular development between phenotypes is part of ongoing research to better understand the evolutionary and molecular underpinnings. Studies have shown that parallel ocular development occurred in subterranean and surface phenotypes, while pax6 expression decreased in latter stages of development of subterranean species (2). These insights of gene labeling and expression as well as reduction of ocular structures in latter stages of development provide a stage for understanding evolutionary processes and genetic mechanisms as well as having potential …

DNA damage occurs constantly in cells due to environmental factors and normal cellular processes, making DNA repair pathways essential for maintaining genomic stability (Hindi et al., 2021). One major repair mechanism is Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER), which is responsible for recognizing and removing bulky DNA lesions that distort the double helix structure (Scharer, 2013). In Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast), the RAD14 gene plays a critical role in this pathway by helping identify and initiate repair of damaged DNA (Scharer, 2013). Another source of instability comes from the formation of G-quadruplex (G4) structures, which are secondary DNA configurations that can interfere with …

- The amount of research opportunities a student has available is linked to higher post graduate student success rate (Stoloff et al., 2015).
- The quality of different research experiences also matter (Love et al., 2007). Positive undergraduate experiences lead to higher levels of self-efficacy in undergraduate students.
- Students' soft skills are improved throughout various classroom activities, preparing them for post graduate opportunities (Marsh et al., 2016).
- Wayment and Dickinson (2008) found that students who participated in undergraduate research were more likely to get accepted to graduate school.
- Hypotheses
- Attending sophomore retreat can reassure areas of interest for psychology undergraduates, which may …

Family Communication Patterns Theory (FCPT) is described as repeated communication beliefs and behaviors that orient a family system and contribute to a shared reality. There are two different orientation styles describing family communication style. Conformity orientation creates a shared reality respective of parental authority and family rules. While conversation orientation creates a shared reality by encouraging open conversation, discussion, and argumentation.
