2026 Event Invitations
Join Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky, co-founders of Lift Our Voices, for a lunchtime discussion on workplace fairness and the hidden impact of nondisclosure agreements and forced arbitration clauses.
The event includes launch of the Lift Our Voices LOV Where You Work AI Tool, an innovative platform that empowers employees to understand what they’re signing before it’s too late. By translating dense legal language in NDAs and forced arbitration clauses into plain English, the tool brings hidden terms to the forefront.
Bring your own employment contract to the event and put the tool to the test.
Building Resilience Through Doing: A Strengths-Based, Family-Centered Program For Military-Connected Families And Parents With Disabilities, Angelina Campbell, Amy Lyons-Brown
Building Resilience Through Doing: A Strengths-Based, Family-Centered Program For Military-Connected Families And Parents With Disabilities, Angelina Campbell, Amy Lyons-Brown
Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium
Resilience is often conceptualized as an individual trait that someone is born with or an outcome; however, this capstone project examined resilience as a dynamic process developed through participation in meaningful occupations within family contexts. This project explored the experiences of military-connected families and parents with disabilities to understand how contextual factors influence participation and adaptive capacity. A participation- and strength-based, family-centered intervention was developed and implemented with the school’s pro bono clinic, integrating principles of occupational therapy, including occupational adaptation and client-centered practice.
Findings indicated that resilience emerged through repeated engagement in meaningful activities, supported by relational safety, identity …

Changes In Activity Levels Observed In Elementary Grade Levels., Kelsie R. Harvey
2026 Honors Symposium
Background: Physical activity is important for children, recess is a great opportunity for physical activity, however, little is known how physical activity during recess changes throughout a school year, which is important for identifying key potential intervention points. Purpose: To determine how physical activity of elementary students changes throughout the school year. Methodology: This is a research-based, longitudinal, observational study design. Through local observations at a nearby elementary school, we can analyze the activity levels of elementary students. Trained research assistants conducted systematic research observation using SOPLAY (System for Observing Play and Leisure Activity in Youth) method. SOPLAY measures the …

Advocacy For Access: Ot's Role In School-Based Assistive Technology, Kalena Wedemeyer-Abney, Jazminne Orozco Arteaga
Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium
This mixed-methods exploratory research study analyzes the experiences of school-based occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) in the implementation of assistive technology (AT). The research examines their perceptions regarding their role and the responsibilities that come with it. This study is grounded in the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and seeks to understand the skill level and knowledge of practitioners, motivators to advocacy efforts, and the overall systemic environment, such as supports and barriers, that impact OTP's ability to acquire and implement assistive technology solutions. A mixed-method research survey was completed by 25 participants, with 3 participants also completing a 1-hour, optional …

Nature-Based Occupational Therapy For Enhancing Education Participation, Malia M. Mendiola, Susan Macdermott
Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium
The project developed nature-based interventions (NBI) resources to support the education participation of neurodivergent high school students. The objective was to increase students’ school participation through nature-based OT for improving emotional regulation, lowering physiological stress, and attention restoration. Nature immersion was explored through the school's OT program, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration with teachers, other services providers, and community partners. The resource guide focused on benefits, impacts, and practical implementation of NBI for the Winston School and for the broader school-based occupational therapy community.

Barriers Of Animal Assisted Therapy, Taylor Blanchard, Amy Lyons-Brown
Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium
This study employs a mixed-methods design, integrating online surveys, semi-structured interviews, and clinical observations to examine the use of animal-assisted therapy (AAT) within occupational therapy practice. The primary objectives are to characterize the demographics of occupational therapists and therapy animals engaged in AAT, identify barriers to its implementation, and evaluate the resources currently available to support practitioner knowledge and competency. By addressing these areas, the study seeks to clarify existing gaps in education and practice, with the broader goal of strengthening the evidence base and enhancing the accessibility, consistency, and impact of AAT in occupational therapy.

Alaska Awos/Asos Metar Data Availability Q1 Of Cy2026, Michael S. Jones
Alaska Awos/Asos Metar Data Availability Q1 Of Cy2026, Michael S. Jones
ISER Reports
Alaska is an aviation-dependent state with about 23% of the population living off the road system. For so many, aviation infrastructure performance is critical to maintain flows of food, medicine, air ambulance services, patient travel, and basic transportation between communities. One key set of assets from this suite of infrastructure are Automated Weather Observation Stations (AWOS) or Automated Surface Observation Stations (ASOS) that generate real-time aviation weather data that is crucial for operational decision making and the certified weather reports that are functionally essential for landing under instrument flight rules. Given the foundational importance of aviation supply chains for the …
