Losing The Loop: A Model For Human Operational Involvement Part Two: A Proposed System Toward A Solution, Elise Annett, James Giordano Apr 2026

Losing The Loop: A Model For Human Operational Involvement Part Two: A Proposed System Toward A Solution, Elise Annett, James Giordano

Strategic Insights

As artificial intelligence systems assume greater levels of autonomy, human judgment is increasingly displaced from the point of decision-making. Part Two of "Losing thee Loop" builds on prior analysis by identifying how autonomy constrains human engagement and proposing a structured model to address these effects. Meaningful human involvement must be actively designed and sustained, requiring the ability to interrogate system outputs, understand decision processes, and intervene when necessary. Dr. Elise Annett and Dr. James Giordano introduce the Synthesized Command and Control (SYNTHComm) model, which integrates human judgment with machine speed through enforced engagement, transparency, and accountability. The analysis demonstrates that …

Motivation Vs. Negative Feelings Among Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder And Social Anxiety, Jakob Carver, Eden Ordyna Apr 2026

Motivation Vs. Negative Feelings Among Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder And Social Anxiety, Jakob Carver, Eden Ordyna

FHSS Mentored Research Conference

This study examines how motivation relates to negative emotional experiences across three groups: individuals with autism, individuals with social anxiety, and a control group. As shown in Figure 1, higher motivation is associated with lower levels of negative feelings across all groups, indicating a consistent inverse relationship.

Baseline differences are evident, with individuals with social anxiety reporting the highest negative feelings, followed by those with autism, and the control group reporting the lowest. While all groups show similar downward trends as motivation increases, the reduction appears most pronounced in the control group. In contrast, individuals with autism and social anxiety …

Gnsi Decision Brief: Global Fragility Reauthorization Act: Through An America First Foreign Policy Lens, Greg Howell

GNSI Decision Briefs

Over the past several decades, positive collaboration between U.S. government departments and agencies supporting development, diplomacy, and defense (3D) has resulted in foreign policy success stories, improving international relations and saving lives around the world. Many of these positive outcomes were achieved when American assistance was requested in response to natural disasters or humanitarian crises, such as following the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and the 2020 COVID pandemic. The Global Fragility Act (GFA) created a framework for interagency cooperation internationally, which produced a strong foundation to advance this promising 3D model for foreign assistance. The …

Operation Surge/Wish You Were Here, Matthew W. Lopez Mr.

B.A./B.S. Practicum Group Exhibit (ART 499)

Artist Statement Matthew Lopez

This collection of videos and posters was created with active duty members and veterans primarily in mind. The gallery installation invites viewers to sit, interact, and exist in the space. The setup encourages lingering, allowing laughter, silence, and reflection to coexist within the environment.

The first video parodies the earnest style of 1940s military training films. In it, I invented a fictional VA program called Operation S.U.R.G.E., using deadpan humor to highlight how absurd and disorienting college (and civilian life in general) can feel after leaving the military. The transition is ridiculous, and I wanted that …

Nira, Bryce R. Drake Apr 2026

Nira, Bryce R. Drake

B.F.A. Practicum Exhibition (ART 498)

Imagination is a powerful tool that allows us to turn our mundane reality into something new and exciting. My graphic novel, Nira, tells the story of two young girls who use the power of their imaginations to turn their everyday lives into extraordinary adventures. With their minds alone, they create exciting scenes in which they befriend bugs, explore mazes, and rescue a cat from the depths of the school basement. Using rounded shapes, bright colors, playful proportions, and dynamic compositions, I create a world in which viewers can be creative. Nira considers that imagination is available to everyone, no matter …

Modulation: Rewiring The Self, Ryan Bridgforth Apr 2026

Modulation: Rewiring The Self, Ryan Bridgforth

B.F.A. Practicum Exhibition (ART 498)

Inspired by the design philosophies of Dunne & Raby, Bruce Tharp, and SpeculativeEdu, my work bridges research, future thinking, and creativity through a process known as speculative design. Partially inspired by my own experience with chronic illness, as well as interest in human technology interaction through writers like Charlie Brooker, my recent work focuses on telling the story of neuromodulation. This technology uses stimulation to alter nerve activity, typically to fight drug-resistent pain and chronic conditions. Product design, advertisements, and other future objects are used to envision a world where this technology is as prevalent as smart phones.

Though the …
