In Word Ways in November 1973, Dmitri Borgmann searched for names of U.S. Cities, towns, or villages that were transposals of each other. The longest well-mixed pair he found consisted of 9-letter names: MASTERSON, Texas, and SEARSMONT, Maine. It is worthwhile to revisit this topic in hopes of finding longer examples.

Word Ways has previously published, amongst others, transpositions of the names of days of the week, planets, US states, chemical elements, drugs and the 300 or so largest US cities. Our latest venture has been to search for transpositions of the names of countries of the world. In this article, we present our best finds.
