Mindset Awareness Training For Developmental And Nondevelopmental Education College Students, Eileen Marie Steffan
Mindset Awareness Training For Developmental And Nondevelopmental Education College Students, Eileen Marie Steffan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Recent research based on the Dweck’s mindset theory has shown that persons with a growth mindset who believe traits such as intelligence are malleable may put forth more effort and have greater academic success than those with a fixed mindset. However, little research has been conducted on mindsets of college students, many of whom enter underprepared for the rigors of college-level work and are required to take developmental education courses as an intervention to reduce the inequalities of underprepared college students. A quasi experimental mixed design with ANOVA and t tests was used to examine how growth mindset awareness training …
Staff Education Program Assessment Of Violence In An Acute Psychiatric Hospital, Steven Dickson
Staff Education Program Assessment Of Violence In An Acute Psychiatric Hospital, Steven Dickson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Physical aggression and violence are sizable concerns for mental health nursing professionals. More than 80% of nurses working in mental health areas have faced verbal or physical abuse from patients. The practicum site noted that patient violence towards staff accounted for 18-20% of workplace injuries involving days away from work, compared to 10-11% in other healthcare settings. The purpose of this project was to develop a program to educate staff on the Brøset violence screen (BVC), an evidence-based, violence-risk screening tool, to increase staff's knowledge about this tool. Five behavioral health experts used the Lynn model to evaluate the project’s …

Leadership Styles For Creating Shared Value In Small And Medium-Sized Enterprises, Joshua Oisedebame Ilevbare
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Lack of alignment between leadership style and strategy contributes to the failure of many small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) leaders to realize their potential for creating shared value (CSV). Aligning leadership styles with CSV strategies improves the ability of Nigerian SME leaders to create economic and social value for all stakeholders of their enterprise. Using four contingency theories of leadership as a conceptual framework, the purpose of this multiple case study was to explore strategies SME leaders use for aligning leadership style and business strategy for CSV. The participants comprised 11 owners or senior managers from four SMEs in the …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractLong-term care, also known as aging services, is evolving to meet the needs of the aging population in the United States, which is increasingly ethnically and racially diverse. The objective of this qualitative multiple case study was to understand how immediate family members experienced the transition of older African American women as they moved into assisted living facilities. Black feminist theory provided a theoretical framework. Narrative interview data were collected from four adult children family caregivers who facilitated the move. Three themes emerged from the content analysis: (a) Transition is not planned in advance and does not happen until a …

Emotional Support Dogs’ Effects On Anxiety, Depression, And Somatization In Elementary Students, Truman Arthur James Spring
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Within the last few decades, there has been an ever-increasing clinical role for trained emotional support dogs (ESD) and their trained therapists in hospitals, courtrooms, and schools. More recently, within the last 5 years, there has been a prevalent trend toward introducing ESDs into schools, which has created an ongoing controversy about the legitimacy of this practice due to the lack of objective data and research on the topic. In this study, archival data analysis was conducted using data from 68 students with elevated scores for anxiety, depression, or somatization, 34 of which were in the treatment group and the …

Educational Intervention To Increase Telemedicine Knowledge In Nurses, Jean Sylvestre Ayissi Essono
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Limited access to healthcare services is a factor that can reduce quality of care, and it is more pronounced in rural settings. One plausible solution to this concern is telemedicine, the use of electronic information and telecommunication technologies to provide care when an individual and provider are not in the same location. Although telemedicine has been suggested as a solution to the access to care concern, it is not widely integrated into the nursing practice. Using Nightingale’s holistic theory of caring, the purpose of this DNP project was to determine if an educational study geared towards telemedicine increased knowledge and …

Prior research in mathematical assessments has indicated varying results of predictive variables and further research has been recommended to support students, parents, teachers, and school administration. The purpose of this research was to determine how well a student’s performance on a mathematics domain at the state level may be predicted based on student’s midyear and end of the year assessment scores, race, gender, and socioeconomic status. The constructivist theoretical foundation was reviewed because of the impact that this theory has on the assessments being researched. Archival records (n = 100) for eighth grade students were received from suburban South Florida …
