School Counselor Leadership: Illuminating The Lived Experiences Of Principals Who Utilize Counselors In Leadership, Amanda Schwyn
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractThe topic of principal–school counselor partnerships has been emerging over the last several decades. The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) helped introduce and streamline counselor roles and responsibilities in 1952 and has been advocating for schools to have comprehensive school counseling programs since. Despite articles, research, and ASCA’s work to promote school counselors as leaders in the school and the importance of a comprehensive school counseling program, a gap remains with respect to counselors working with principals to establish comprehensive school counseling programs from the principal’s perspective. To understand the principal’s experience, the study was conducted using eight principals at …

Non-Nightmare Recurring Dreams And Trauma, Asmai Fathelbab
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This study examined the relationship between trauma and non-nightmare recurrent dreams (NNRD). Although there is extensive literature on the psychological consequences, diagnosis, and treatment of trauma, studies on the role of sleep processes have focused almost exclusively on nightmares. The potential relationship between NNRD and traumatic experiences has been overlooked by researchers. The purpose of this study was to assess if history of trauma and NNRD were correlated. More specifically, using Revonsuo’s threat simulation theory as a framework, the study evaluated if gender, quality of sleep, depression, anxiety, stress, and history trauma predicted NNRD. A cross-sectional correlational survey design was …

First-Year Teachers’ Perceptions Of The Mentor Program In A Southeastern School District, Taylor L. Castaldo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Many educators are leaving their teaching positions, especially in the early years of their career. This has led many states and districts to mandate teacher mentor programs for new teachers with the hope of retaining these teachers. However, even with these mentor programs, new teachers are continuing to leave their positions, which affects the district, the school, its employees, and the students. A lack of knowledge about teachers’ experiences as mentees in mentoring programs limits a state’s ability to improve programs. This study was conducted to address this gap in knowledge. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore …
