Counselors’ Competency Development In Suicidal Ideation Assessments Of Black American Adolescents, Salita Mcclelland Wynn
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Black American adolescents have increased rates of suicidal ideation above what is noted in the general U.S. youth and adolescent population. An in-depth literature supports the notion that many counselors and mental health clinicians, post-graduation from their training programs, feel ill-equipped to assess suicidal ideation in Black American adolescents. The purpose of this qualitative, hermeneutic phenomenological study was to examine the lived experiences and competence of counselors who have clinical experience working with Black American adolescents who have suicidal ideation. Prior to the inception of this research, no other documented study addressed counselor competence with assessing suicidal ideation in Black …

The problem that was addressed through this study was that Grade 3–5 mathematics teachers in Chicago suburban elementary schools (CSES) faced challenges integrating digital learning tools (DLTs) to support student achievement after the COVID-19 pandemic forced a rapid transition to technology-based instruction. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore CSES Grade 3-5 teachers’ experiences using DLTs in mathematics instruction. Guided by the technological pedagogical content knowledge framework, two research questions explored how teachers used DLTs in instruction, and what resources or supports were needed for effective implementation. The novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), first detected in Wuhan, China, is caused by a new virus strain: severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). On March 11, 2020, COVID-19 was classified as “the second pandemic of the 21st century” by the World Health Organization. To better control the spread of the virus, governments and communities adopted several established public health protocols to quell the spread of the disease and decrease the resulting morbidity and mortality. Specific measures included masking, hand hygiene, social distancing and disinfection. Though these are proven measures, not much was known about adherence in the home …

Causes, Consequences, And Countermeasures Of Military Coups In The Gambia, Alhagie A. Mbye
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Military coups d’état remain a persistent threat to postcolonial African states, undermining democratic consolidation and institutional legitimacy. The Gambia, although historically regarded as a relatively stable West African nation, has experienced approximately 14 coup attempts since gaining independence from Great Britain in 1965. While military coups in Africa are well documented, much of the existing literature relies on broad regional frameworks that emphasize externalities such as foreign influence and geopolitical pressures rather than internalities such as national policy direction, and domestic governance challenges. The purpose of this qualitative case study is to address that gap by providing context-specific empirical research …
Breaking Barriers: The Political Journeys Of Elected Female Leaders, Erica Lynn Williams
Breaking Barriers: The Political Journeys Of Elected Female Leaders, Erica Lynn Williams
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite increasing participation, women have remained significantly underrepresented in elected political office. Existing literature on women elected to political positions highlights persistent gender disparities in representation, access, and political influence. Scholars have examined the structural, cultural, and institutional barriers that women face when seeking and holding public office. While recent research has increasingly focused on intersectionality and the diverse experiences of women in politics, gaps remain in capturing their personal narratives and day-to-day realities. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to examine the experiences of women currently serving in political positions to understand how prior career opportunities influenced …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem that was addressed through this study is that approximately 80% of upper elementary students do not reach proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) at an urban Title I school district in Georgia, despite implementing intervention and literacy programs. Guided by Senge’s organizational learning theory and Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, the purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the challenges that elementary teachers face when providing ELA instruction to low-achieving students in a local Title I school district in Georgia. Non-Traditional Student Experiences With Using An Asynchronous Video Writing Tutorial, Michele Sweeting-Decaro
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem investigated in this study was that low-level writing skills among postsecondary, non-traditional students contributed to poor essay grades, a lack of persistence, and low test scores, resulting in increased drop-out rates. A college writing center in a large city in the Northeastern United States developed an innovative, asynchronous tutorial to improve students' writing skills. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the experiences of non-traditional students at a four-year college regarding an on-demand asynchronous writing tutorial offered by the college writing center. The technology acceptance model was used to frame the study because it has …

Correctional Officers’ Perceptions Of Personal Safety Equipment Effectiveness, Tiffany Haigler-Sion
Correctional Officers’ Perceptions Of Personal Safety Equipment Effectiveness, Tiffany Haigler-Sion
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The United States has the largest correctional system and the highest incarceration rate in the world. Within this system, correctional officers (COs) serve as the primary point of contact with inmates. Existing literature suggests that the nature of inmates’ offenses often influences COs’ perceptions. Moreover, safety equipment plays a critical role in maintaining security within prison environments. Understanding COs’ experiences and perceptions regarding their safety equipment is therefore essential. The research problem is that little is known about COs’ lived experiences with and perceptions of the safety equipment they carry to keep safe from inmate severe assault. The purpose of …

The Lived Experience Of The Orgasm Gap In U.S. Cisgender Women In Heterosexual Relationships, Alina Beverly Vergara-Hegi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Women are not orgasming as often as men in heterosexual sexual encounters. Research has confirmed that sociocultural influences, gender differences, sexual perceptions, sexual miseducation, and relationship dynamics contribute to women’s negative sexual experiences. What has been missing is a better understanding of the experience of the orgasm gap and the role of gender ideology in women’s sexual experiences. This study explored the lived experience of the orgasm gap and gender ideology in nine cisgender women in long-term heterosexual relationships. Critical feminist theory was used as the lens to explore the meaning of sexual inequities in intimate long-term relationships. Using interpretative …
