Strategies To Reduce Staff Shortages In A Freestanding Dialysis Clinic In Rural Georgia, Shayla Daniell Sanders
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Vacancy rates are a current problem in a freestanding outpatient dialysis clinic in rural communities. From an administrative perspective, vacancy rates increase costs associated with recruitment, onboarding, training, overtime and compromise the quality and safety of patient care. The purpose of this integrative review was to identify evidence-based strategies to decrease vacancy rates in rural Georgia dialysis clinics. Donabedian’s framework of structure, process, and outcome was used for this integrative review. The integrative review question explored evidence-based strategies that can decrease vacancy rates in dialysis clinics in rural Georgia. The Lived Experience Of Running Among Individuals With Anxiety, Emily Rice
The Lived Experience Of Running Among Individuals With Anxiety, Emily Rice
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Anxiety is among the most prevalent mental health concerns affecting adults, yet many individuals encounter barriers to traditional mindfulness-based interventions. Running is frequently described as promoting presence, mental clarity, emotional grounding, and relief from anxiety-related distress; however, little qualitative research has explored how adults with anxiety make meaning of their lived experiences of running. The purpose of this interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) study was to explore how adults with anxiety describe and make meaning of their lived experiences of running. Guided by embodied cognition and informed by mindfulness and flow theories, this study explored participants' lived experiences of running. Participants …
The Role Of Political And Media Narratives In Housing Affordability, Craig Anthony Bardo
The Role Of Political And Media Narratives In Housing Affordability, Craig Anthony Bardo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem addressed in this study was that persistent reliance on market-oriented affordability strategies continued despite evidence of declining housing affordability in Nashville. Understanding how policy narratives structured accepted solutions may help explain the persistence of existing policy approaches. Research has shown that housing affordability is a significant policy concern in many U.S. cities. Rising housing costs, displacement pressures, and persistent rent burdens have been indicated in studies as contributing factors. However, less attention has been paid to how political and media narratives shape the boundaries of recognized housing policy solutions within local discourse, specifically in Nashville, Tennessee. The purpose …

Staff Covid-19 Infections, Staffing Shortages, And Resident Deaths In New York State Nursing Homes, Arun Inayatullah
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The COVID-19 pandemic intensified existing staffing challenges in U.S. nursing homes. Although previous studies have examined the effects of COVID-19 in nursing homes, limited research has examined the association between staff COVID-19 infection counts, staffing shortages, and resident COVID-19 deaths in New York State nursing homes. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine whether staff COVID-19 infection counts were associated with staffing shortages and resident COVID-19 deaths in New York State nursing homes. The study was guided by the Donabedian structure-process-outcome model. Analyses of the four research questions examined whether staff COVID-19 infection counts were associated with …

The purpose of this study was to increase knowledge and awareness of grandiose and vulnerable narcissism’s impact on African American couples. A qualitative phenomenological research design was used. The hierarchical two-dimensional view …
10-Bed Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit Expansion To Address Inadequate Inpatient Capacity, Sumitpal Kaur
10-Bed Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit Expansion To Address Inadequate Inpatient Capacity, Sumitpal Kaur
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Inadequate medical-surgical telemetry capacity contributes to emergency department (ED) boarding, patient transfers, decreased patient satisfaction, and operational inefficiencies. This systems-level organizational leadership project evaluated a proposed 10-bed medical-surgical telemetry unit expansion at a medical center in Northern California. The project addressed the question of how a 10-bed expansion would affect ED boarding, patient crossovers to a nearby medical center, patient satisfaction, and financial performance. Trend analysis of occupancy, ED boarding, and crossover data, regional benchmarking, and financial modeling using net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) were used to evaluate the proposed expansion. The organization currently operates …

Improving Recognition And Communication Of Early Patient Condition Changes Through An Evidence-Based Staff Education Program, Raymond Mwanje
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This doctoral project is a staff education project aimed at enhancing recognition and communication of early changes in patients' conditions in a long-term care rehabilitation environment. Delayed recognition of patient deterioration is a major challenge in nursing practice, as subtle changes in a patient's condition may go unnoticed, leading to delayed intervention, avoidable complications, and unnecessary hospital transfers. Poor communication among staff can also hinder the escalation of care, impacting patient safety and quality of care. There is evidence that structured communication strategies and education interventions can help enhance communication between clinicians and aid earlier detection of patient deterioration. Resolving …

The Relative Strength Of Justice-Related Satisfaction, Posttraumatic Maladaptive Beliefs, And Self-Compassion In Predicting Perceived Control Over Stressful Events, Katherine Mooney
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Coercive control and domestic violence perpetrated by men against women are global social problems sustained by patriarchal norms that normalize gender-based violence. These norms often contribute to victims' maladaptive self-beliefs, leading women to believe they provoked the abuse. When survivors seek legal protection, they may experience revictimization through legal processes that minimize their claims and enable perpetrators to continue exerting power and control through the justice system. As a result, dissatisfaction with the legal system may reinforce self-blame, while low self-compassion may further undermine women's perceived control over stressful events in both the short and long term. While previous research …

Public Perceptions Regarding Surveillance Of Lyme Disease In Tennessee, Shaheena Yasmin Asad
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Lyme disease (LD), a tick-borne illness, has been a growing concern in the state of Tennessee. Studies have established environmental concerns regarding a growing tick population and identified a gap between reported cases and disease burden in Tennessee. Despite this information, it remains classified as a low-incidence reporting state, raising concerns about underreporting that indicate an ineffective current surveillance system. Because the public perception regarding surveillance of LD is unknown, the purpose of this qualitative study was to explore how adults in Tennessee perceived LD as a credible public health threat within the context of the current surveillance system. Guided …

Veterans and service members often delay or avoid engaging in mental health services because of stigma experienced during military service and after transitioning to civilian life, contributing to worsening mental health outcomes. Although mental health professionals (MHPs) with military cultural competence can reduce stigma and improve engagement in care, little is known about how newly trained MHPs perceive their preparedness to effectively serve this population. The purpose of this hermeneutic, phenomenological study was to answer the question of what the lived experiences of new MHPs regarding their preparedness were to support veterans and service members experiencing mental health stigma. Seven …
