Nigerian Nurses' Perceptions Of Caring For Women With Female Genital Mutilation, Jane-Frances Echeozo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There are numerous health problems associated with female genital mutilation (FGM) practice. In Nigerian healthcare, professionals need to ensure culturally sensitive care for FGM cases. However, there was a literature gap involving culturally sensitive care for Nigerian women with FGM complications, evidenced by some northern Nigerian nurses who were not able to identify FGM categories or cultural given names associated with FGM types. Thus, this qualitative study involved ascertaining the worldview of Nigerian nurses and midwives in Owerri regarding providing culturally competent nursing care for FGM complications, guided by the process of cultural competence in the delivery of healthcare services …

The purpose of this quantitative secondary data analysis study was to investigate the existence of associations between U.S. law enforcement officer deaths (SARS-CoV-2, non-SARS-CoV-2, or other duty-related) and the geographic region, as well as year of death while controlling for the officer rank, age, and sex. Based on the conceptual framework for evaluating mortality and morbidity following large-scale disasters from the National Academies of …

Lived Experiences Involving Self-Efficacy Among African American Women Receiving Cardiac Peer Support, Shurnett Arnella Barrett
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among African American (AA) women in the United States. While there have been advances and more widespread use of peer-to-peer (P2P) support strategies to improve self-management skills among CVD patients, these approaches have not affected AA women, who continue to die from heart disease at significantly high rates. The purpose of this study was to examine real-life experiences of AA women with hypertensive heart disease who receive P2P support and the effect of that support on self-efficacy and cardiac health. The health belief model and social cognitive learning theory were the …

A Qualitative Study Of Moral Distress In Physicians During The Covid-19 Pandemic, William Washington
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Abstract The spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) created a pandemic and had a world-shattering effect on healthcare organizations. As a result, many healthcare professionals were exposed to health situations that stretched them beyond their professional ethics, mental health, and emotional capacity. Throughout the last 30 years, moral distress has been understood as the type of stress that medical professionals experience. Research has substantially grown regarding COVID-19 and moral distress, exposing gaps in the ability of experts to care as they should. Moral distress was a term created to define the emotional disruption that occurs when a professional cannot work within their …
Strategies For Clinical Managers To Reduce Nosocomial Infections, Samisha Lynn Davis
Strategies For Clinical Managers To Reduce Nosocomial Infections, Samisha Lynn Davis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Increasing nosocomial infection rates threaten patient safety when approximately 100 million patients annually acquire at least one nosocomial infection during their hospital stay. Some clinical managers lack strategies to reduce the incidence and costs of nosocomial infections. Clinical managers need training in proactive infection control guidelines that may reduce infection rates and increase profitability. Grounded in adaptive leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore successful strategies that clinical managers used to reduce incidence and costs associated with nosocomial infections. The participants were four clinical managers employed by health care organizations in the Southeast Texas …
