Relationship Between A Company's Owner Demographics, Socioeconomic Conditions, And Entrepreneurial Funding, Frances J. Arrington
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Entrepreneurial funding remains a persistent challenge for U.S. business owners, particularly as firms navigate demographic shifts and post-COVID-19 pandemic economic conditions. This challenge is important to entrepreneurs, investors, and lenders who rely on access to capital to support business development and economic growth. Grounded in Hersey and Blanchard’s situational leadership theory, the purpose of this quantitative, ex post facto study was to examine the relationship between gender of owner, age of firm, effect of COVID-19, and entrepreneurial funding. Data were collected from 309 U.S. employer firms drawn from a national small business credit survey. A binomial logistic regression analysis was …
Attachment Styles Of Women Who Are Attracted To Violent Incarcerated Men, Carolina Felix
Attachment Styles Of Women Who Are Attracted To Violent Incarcerated Men, Carolina Felix
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In this qualitative study, attachment styles of women who are attracted to violent incarcerated men were investigated. Bowlby’s attachment styles were used to develop an insight into the women who are attracted to violent incarcerated men. Steinberg’s theory of love was used for a more intimate view into the women and their pursuit of relationships with incarcerated males. The findings revealed that the women identify as having anxious attachment styles and are insecure-ambivalent/resistant. Those with anxious attachment styles yearn to develop supportive relationships as their insecurities hinder them from developing trust, satisfaction, commitment, and interdependence. As for being insecure-ambivalent/resistant, it …
Assessing The Impact Of Substance Abuse On Occupational Injuries Using Workers Compensation Claims In Ohio, Samson Agboola
Assessing The Impact Of Substance Abuse On Occupational Injuries Using Workers Compensation Claims In Ohio, Samson Agboola
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Occupational injuries remain prevalent across various industries, resulting in significant financial burdens for both organizations and employees through increased workers’ compensation claims. One potential contributing factor is substance use in the workplace, which has been linked to decreased productivity, impaired judgment, and workplace conflict. Despite these risks, the relationship between substance use and occupational injuries remains underexplored. As such, grounded in constructivism and interpretivism, this study investigated the extent to which substance use influences injury outcomes and whether its role is underestimated in workplace incident reporting by analyzing worker’s compensation claims in Ohio. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a …

Staff Education On Evidence-Based Practice On External Factors That Impact Management Of Chronic Hypertension In African American Patients, Stella Ngozi Paul
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This doctoral staff education project was developed to address a significant gap in nursing practice, specifically the limited knowledge of outpatient clinical staff regarding cultural, social, and health literacy factors that influence the management of chronic hypertension in African American (AA) patients. Through this project, I aimed to equip clinical staff with evidence-based, culturally competent strategies to promote equitable, patient-centered care. This project was guided by the following practice-focused question: Can an evidence-based practice educational session on how external factors impact the management of chronic hypertension in the AA population enhance staff knowledge and understanding? Using the analysis, design, development, …
Effect Of Stages Of Prehospital Hypertensive Crisis And Length-Of-Stay On Acute Stroke Readmission, Thomas Bob Ross Phd
Effect Of Stages Of Prehospital Hypertensive Crisis And Length-Of-Stay On Acute Stroke Readmission, Thomas Bob Ross Phd
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Stroke is the second leading cause of mortality and the third leading cause of disability, affecting over 800,000 Americans annually. Traditional stroke research has focused on in-hospital settings, but not on prehospital stroke admissions, despite evidence that over 75% of acute stroke cases managed by emergency medical services involve prehospital hypertensive crises (HTN-C). HTN-C is classified into three systolic blood pressure (SBP) stages: Stage 1 (140–159 mm Hg), Stage 2 (160–179 mm Hg), and Stage 3 (≥180 mm Hg), the latter associated with organ damage. Hypertension correlates with longer hospital stays and more intensive interventions in hospitalized patients, but HTN-C …

Type II diabetes (DB2) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, whether directly or as a comorbidity. This is especially alarming for Native Americans, who have the highest DB2 prevalence and death rates when compared to their non-Native American peers. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of Lumbee Tribe members in Robeson County regarding DB2. The health belief model was used as a lens through which to understand and interpret findings. In-person semi-structured audio-recorded interviews were conducted with 12 participants recruited through social media. Data were coded and analyzed using deductive thematic analysis. …

A pretest and posttest design was used in the project. A total of 20 participants completed a pretest, posttest and program …

Adapter Changes Of Central Line Patients On Total Parenteral Nutrition, Courtney Erin Schappell
Adapter Changes Of Central Line Patients On Total Parenteral Nutrition, Courtney Erin Schappell
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) remain a significant and preventable patient safety issue, especially among hospitalized patients receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Patients on TPN face a higher risk of infection due to the high glucose content of the solution and the frequent access required for central line therapy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality have recognized CLABSI prevention as a national priority. In addition, there is emphasis on high-risk groups like patients receiving TPN. The Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice, an evidence-based guideline, recommends catheter care, including timely adapter (i.e., …

The background of this study established context describing the 2018 implementation of Proposition 12 in California, a law intended to improve animal welfare standards. The central problem identified the law’s unintended effects on multiple stakeholders, which prior literature suggested could include increased production costs and limit consumer access. However, existing studies have focused on theoretical and economic projections, leaving gaps in understanding secondary data research and practical impacts on farmers and low-income consumers. The purpose of the study was to examine unforeseen consequences of Proposition 12, with attention to its direct and indirect impacts on animal welfare, farmers, and low-income …

Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin
Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Workforce retention among mental health professionals has been a central focus of scholars as behavioral health systems continue to face chronic staffing instability (Hallett et al., 2024). Researchers have demonstrated that burnout, limited organizational support, and resource misalignment significantly influence turnover in these settings (Maslach & Leiter, 2016; Pulman & Fenge, 2024). However, researchers have not yet established how mental health professionals within a single publicly funded, state-operated behavioral health organization interpret the organizational and cultural factors that influence their decision to remain employed. The purpose of this qualitative single-case study was to explore how mental health professionals in a …

It was essential to address this issue because nurses play a crucial role in medication management, patient education, and adherence support. The practice-focused question explored was: Will staff education regarding the use of long-acting injectables in clients with schizophrenia to enhance medication adherence improve …
