Association Of Income, Education, Employment And Covid-19 Mortality In Brazil, Marcelina Machado
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The increased mortality rates from COVID-19 in Brazil have adversely affectedvulnerable populations and placed a severe burden on its public health system as compared to other nations. Focusing on socioeconomic status as a risk factor in this retrospective cohort study, I investigated the association between Brazilian COVID-19 mortality rate, income, school enrollment rate, and employment rate after controlling for the demographics and immunization rate. This is an important issue as an increase in incidence and mortality rates affects how governmental and public health leaders can effectively control and prevent disease spread. Using the fundamental causes of disease theory as the …

Exploring An Indian K-12 School’S Experience Of Culturally Adapting Multiple Intelligences Theory, Jessica Richmond
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Many government-run K-12 schools in India struggle to serve their diverse student bodies in a culturally responsive manner that draws from the nation's rich cultural heritage. Academic programs based on Gardner’s multiple intelligences (MI) theory have been utilized internationally to enhance learning, but the implementation has not been explored in a school curriculum based on Indian culture. The purpose of this qualitative case study, which was grounded in MI and Ladson-Billing’s culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP), was to explore the methods and experiences of an Indian K-12 school that culturally adapted MI theory to include yogic principles of the Indian culture. …

AbstractPerformance measurement systems (PMS) exist to help public managers assess and improve decision-making related to programs, policies, processes, and personnel. However, challenges in implementing PMS have resulted in underutilization in the public sector. While critical success factors for successful implementation are known, little research exists on how public organizations can successfully implement PMS in individual organizations. This qualitative case study aimed to explore participants' experiences dealing with PMS, using contingency and goal-setting theories to analyze the influence of organizational contexts on PMS design, adoption, and implementation. Data were collected from five staff and top-level management at a large state agency …
