Teachers’ Experiences With The Use Of Read-Alouds For Fourth- And Fifth-Grade Students, Shervita Bryant
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The research problem addressed in this basic qualitative study was the inconsistent use and implementation of teacher read-alouds among fourth- and fifth-grade teachers in an urban district. Guided by Clark and Peterson’s cognitive process teacher model, Rumelhart’s schema theory, and Gough and Tunmer’s simple view of reading, the purpose of this project study was to explore teachers’ experiences and perceptions regarding their use of read-alouds as part of their regular reading instruction. Two research questions were developed to explore teachers’ experiences of the support received for using the read-aloud. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 10 fourth- and fifth-grade teachers. Data …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This staff education project was a quality improvement initiative aimed at reducing medication transcription errors by implementing a standardized verification protocol. The project addressed the critical practice problem of transcription-related medication errors, which contribute to wrong medication administration, adverse drug events, and patient harm. The practice-focused question was: How does implementing a staff education program on standardized medication transcription verification processes in healthcare institutions affect the rate of wrong medication administration compared to traditional transcription methods without education? The project was implemented over 8 weeks in an outpatient clinic with 20 participants (8 prescribers and 12 nurses). The primary data …

Social Construction Of Female-Headed Households Participating In Hud Public Housing Programs, Emma Forks
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem this study addressed involved factors associated with long-term program involvement of female-headed households living in public and vouchered housing. The literature indicated a significant gap regarding the reasons women who received federal housing assistance stayed in government housing. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to examine the experiences of female-headed households living in public housing and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) housing in a Central Texas region, specifically to identify the factors that limited their ability to leave these programs. Using Schneider and Ingram’s social construction of target populations theory, the data was collected from eight participants …
Staff Education To Improve Patient Outcomes Through Bedside Shift Report In A Skilled Nursing Facility, Ngum Avwontom
Staff Education To Improve Patient Outcomes Through Bedside Shift Report In A Skilled Nursing Facility, Ngum Avwontom
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Abstract Problem: Inconsistent shift handoff communication in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) contributes to adverse patient outcomes, including medical errors, falls, and pressure ulcers. Bedside shift reports (BSRs) are an evidence-based, patient-centered strategy to mitigate these risks, yet implementation at the project site was inconsistent. Methods: This staff education project implemented a standardized BSR program in a 100-bed SNF over seven weeks. The intervention trained 18 nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on BSR using the Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation (SBAR) communication framework. A pre- and post-test design was used to evaluate the impact on staff knowledge, shift report duration, and patient safety outcomes, including …

Assessing The Impact Of Substance Abuse On Occupational Injuries Using Workers Compensation Claims In Ohio, Samson Agboola
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Occupational injuries remain prevalent across various industries, resulting in significant financial burdens for both organizations and employees through increased workers’ compensation claims. One potential contributing factor is substance use in the workplace, which has been linked to decreased productivity, impaired judgment, and workplace conflict. Despite these risks, the relationship between substance use and occupational injuries remains underexplored. As such, grounded in constructivism and interpretivism, this study investigated the extent to which substance use influences injury outcomes and whether its role is underestimated in workplace incident reporting by analyzing worker’s compensation claims in Ohio. Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin
Exploring Workforce Retention In A Behavioral Health Organization: A Qualitative Study, Meagan Tamara Copelin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Workforce retention among mental health professionals has been a central focus of scholars as behavioral health systems continue to face chronic staffing instability (Hallett et al., 2024). Researchers have demonstrated that burnout, limited organizational support, and resource misalignment significantly influence turnover in these settings (Maslach & Leiter, 2016; Pulman & Fenge, 2024). However, researchers have not yet established how mental health professionals within a single publicly funded, state-operated behavioral health organization interpret the organizational and cultural factors that influence their decision to remain employed. The purpose of this qualitative single-case study was to explore how mental health professionals in a …

The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the best practices that employers use to retain women employees with dual responsibilities who are caring for their household family members …
