Crossing Locations, Light Conditions, And Pedestrian Injury Severity, Naved Alam Siddiqui
Crossing Locations, Light Conditions, And Pedestrian Injury Severity, Naved Alam Siddiqui
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study assesses the role of crossing locations and light conditions in pedestrian injury severity through a multivariate regression analysis to control for many other factors that also may influence pedestrian injury severity. Crossing locations include midblock and intersections, and light conditions include daylight, dark with street lighting, and dark without street lighting. The study formulates a theoretical framework on the determinants of pedestrian injury severity, and specifies an empirical model accordingly. An ordered probit model is then applied to the KABCO severity scale of pedestrian injuries which occurred while attempting street crossing in the years 1986 to 2003 in …
Selling St. Petersburg: John Lodwick And The Promotion Of A Florida Paradise, Nevin D. Sitler
Selling St. Petersburg: John Lodwick And The Promotion Of A Florida Paradise, Nevin D. Sitler
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
For over a century Florida's Tampa Bay area has been extolled for its abundant seashores and moderate climate. The success of early twentieth-century St. Petersburg as a tourist destination was due to a consistent method of self-promotion highlighting the natural and physical features of peninsular Pinellas County. Warmed by balmy Tampa Bay breezes, St. Petersburg had been dubbed the "Health City." This tiny 1890 coastal town of less than three hundred inhabitants, now blessed with a slogan, new train tracks, and a railway pier, was an ideal setting for tourism. By 1902, boosters declared St. Petersburg a city second to …

A Compiler-Based Leakage Reduction Technique By Power-Gating Functional Units In Embedded Microprocessors, Soumyaroop Roy
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Power-gating is a technique investigated widely for reducing leakage energy in the functional units of microprocessors at the architectural level. Effective power-gating involves deactivating idle functional units for sustained periods incurring little or no performance degradation. Accurate prediction of long idle periods is essential, which, in turn, depends on the application program characteristics. In this thesis, we propose a compiler-based leakage reduction technique for embedded architectures by exploiting the well-known attributes of embedded applications, namely, small code size and intensive loops. From the control flow graph (CFG) representation of the source program, we construct a forest of loop hierarchy trees (LHTs), …

Growth Of 3c-Sic Via A Hot-Wall Cvd Reactor, Suzie Harvey
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The heteroepitaxial growth of cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC) on silicon (Si) substrates at high growth rates, via a horizontal hot-wall chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactor, has been achieved. The final growth process was developed in three stages; an initial "baseline" development stage, an optimization stage, and a large area growth stage. In all cases the growth was conducted using a two step, carbonization plus growth, process. During carbonization, the surface of the Si is converted to 3C-SiC, which helps to minimize the stress in the growing crystal. Propane (C3H8) and silane (SiH4), diluted in hydrogen (H2), were used as the …

Advancements In Rapid Load Test Data Regression, Michael Jeffrey Stokes
Advancements In Rapid Load Test Data Regression, Michael Jeffrey Stokes
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Rate-dependent effects introduced during rapid and/or dynamic events have typically been oversimplified to compensate for deficiencies in present analyses. As load test results are generally considered as the basis of performance from which foundations can be designed, it is imperative that the analyzed load test data be as accurate as possible. In an attempt to progress the state of load test data regression, this dissertation addresses two common assumptions made during the regression process: (1) the statnamic damping coefficient is constant throughout the entire load test and (2) the concrete stress-strain relationship is linear-elastic. Also presented is a case study …
